The Commons-VFS Ant tasks could be improved to support filesets, or an object
derived from filesets which support FileObjects instead of files. I've done a
preliminary version of this. The content of the attached file contain a
replacement package for the ant tasks, which extend them and add selectors,
vfs:fileset and directory scanner for VFS. It is a functional, i use it for
my deployment system. It use Ant 1.6.5 (and not 1.6.2).

jsvc fails to execve() self on Linux

 Key: DAEMON-92
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DAEMON-92
 Project: Commons Daemon
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 1.0.1 Final
Reporter: Simone Piunno
 Fix For: 1.0.1 Final

 Attachments: 1.0.1-execve-self.patch

 On Linux jsvc execve() itself.
execve() requires an absolute path as the first argument therefore use of
argv[0] only works when jsvc was invoked with a full path.
Executing jsvc as relative path fails with jsvc error: Cannot execute JSVC
 executor process.
On Linux the full path to self is very easy to find: /proc/self/exe
I'm attaching a patch fixing this problem and falling back to argv[0] in case
 /proc is not mounted.

[jira] Created: (DAEMON-93) jsvc should be runnable as non root.

2007-01-25 Thread Simone Piunno (JIRA)
jsvc should be runnable as non root.

 Key: DAEMON-93
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DAEMON-93
 Project: Commons Daemon
  Issue Type: Improvement
 Environment: Linux
Reporter: Simone Piunno

On Linux jsvc only works as root.
Despite the discussion on issue 24, loading the kernel capability module
doens't help.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ uname -a
Linux roentgen 2.6.19-gentoo-r4 #1 PREEMPT Sun Jan 14 13:01:55 CET 2007 x86_64
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ lsmod|grep capa
capability 4296 0
commoncap 5952 1 capability

in the errfile I get:

14/01/2007 00:42:58 31709 jsvc.exec error: syscall failed in set_caps
14/01/2007 00:42:58 31709 jsvc.exec error: set_caps(CAPS) failed
14/01/2007 00:42:58 31708 jsvc.exec error: Service exit with a return value of 4

I've been told documentation says:

Jsvc is a daemon process so it should be started as root and the -user
parameter allows to downgrade to an unprivilegded user.

but I see no reason why jsvc or any other daemon process shouldn't be runnable
as non root therefore I'm creating this issue as a request for improvement.
I'm also attaching

I'm attaching a patch.

Attachment: 1.0.1-capabilities.patch

jsvc should be runnable as non root.

 Key: DAEMON-93
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DAEMON-93

On Linux jsvc only works as root.
Despite the discussion on issue 24, loading the kernel capability module
 doens't help.

 of 4
 I've been told documentation says:
Jsvc is a daemon process so it should be started as root and the -user
parameter allows to downgrade to an unprivilegded user.
but I see no reason why jsvc or any other daemon process shouldn't be
runnable as non root therefore I'm creating this issue as a request for
 improvement.
 I'm also attaching
 I'm attaching a patch.

later versions of linux (e.g. 2.6.x) may have capability management configured
as a module rather than compiled in. A LKML discussion is ongoing as to if
 this
is a good idea or not, but the upshot is that jsvc will fail on capset if the
kernel doesn't have the module loaded. I'd suggest a note in the release

Will fileUpload 1.2 be released soon?

2007-01-25 Thread Lennard Fuller
The documentation around 1.2, especially the streaming API is exciting.
I was wondering when/if there will be an official release for 1.2. Has
a release manager been selected yet?

Re: Will fileUpload 1.2 be released soon?

2007-01-25 Thread Henri Yandell

IO 1.3 RC2 is looking good for release this weekend - no -1 votes yet.

I think that's the only blocker on FileUpload 1.2, so hopefully we'll
be looking to build a release candidate next week.

Re: [VOTE] IO 1.3 (RC2)

Two points

a) The manifest says version 1.2. Must be fixed.

b) The javadoc jar soesn't contain the LICENSE.txt or NOTICE.txt. Not
sure if this matters.

[jira] Commented: (DBCP-205) Intermittently getting Could not retrieve connection info from pool when under load

Henri Yandell commented on DBCP-205:

Agreed - seems to be that the JDBC driver/db just doesn't like the amount of
activity.

Not that I grok how the driver could be running out of client side ports to
connect from; there're tons of those aren't there?

Might be a SQL Server driver specific bit I guess if it's trying to define the
actual port to connect from and it's getting screwed up for some reason.

[VOTE] IO 1.3 (RC3)

2007-01-25 Thread Henri Yandell

I've made a third release candidate of IO 1.3, tagged IO_1_3_RC3.

Available at:

http://people.apache.org/~bayard/commons-io/1.3-rc3/

Various build files, clirr/jardiff reports and the proposed site.

[ ] +1
[ ] -1

Vote to end on Monday (if it makes it that far).

The only difference from RC2 are the two build issues Stephen found:

1) MANIFEST contains 1.3 and not 1.2.
2) Javadoc jar for Maven includes LICENSE and NOTICE.

LICENSE and NOTICE in javadoc jar (Was: [VOTE] IO 1.3 (RC3))

2007-01-25 Thread Jochen Wiedmann

On 1/26/07, Henri Yandell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

It is news to me, that that's a requirement. I am unaware of any build
script that ensures it. Please note, we are talking about the javadocs
jar file. not the actual meat (source and binaries). Couldn't we drop
that for the future, please?
