2011-12-29 Thread Tony Stevenson

Hi,

Have you read our public archive policy [1] ?
I have just looked at the email in question and I cannot see anything in there
that falls within the bounds for which we would normally edit the archives.

By now this email will have been archived on hundreds of different list
archives. Such as google, marc.info and many many more.

Sorry but your request will not be acted upon this time.

Description: Message signed with OpenPGP using GPGMail

Re: [OpenPGP] Moving Away From DSA and SHA-1

2009-08-11 Thread Tony Stevenson

You cannot retrospectively 'upgrade' your key, AIUI, at least.
So you will sadly lose all your signatures as you will need a new
key. Thankfully I created mine with a 4096 key length so I'm ok, but
I get impression many folks wont be.

Get your key created now, and at Apachecon we will have to have a
large key signing party. :)

like the cook kids, but not lose ten years of signatures.

with ApacheConUS only three months away, we really need to start
planning how apache can move away from short keys (DSA and RSA
2048)
and weak WOT links (SHA-1)[1]. the consensus on infra was that this
is
the best list for this discussion. if it happens to get too busy
then a

new list can be created.

the first step needs to be updating the documents so that new release
managers know how to set up and use GnuPG[2] to generate keys
unlikely
to need changing in the next couple of years. i'll start a thread
over

on site dev to cover this.

the first question for discussion is recommended key length. 2048
is the

minimum safe size for new keys but only just. for keys used to sign
releases, 4096 is more credible today. 8192 bit keys are possible
with

GnuPG[3] but are fiddly and - in older tools - support may be patchy.
going for 4096 would mean a second transition before 2015 but the
next
generation (SHA-3 and next generation of OpenPGP) should be
available by

then.

consensus on infra was to go for 4096 but if anyone knows any good
reasons to go for some other value, please jump in.

VeriSign Class 2 is 700USD/page per year IIRC.

All the members to have Class2 *for free* would be reasonable.
Plus, donated committers (e.g. 100USD) to have Class2

Tetsuya,

So can I clarify. Do you expect the ASF to pay for some 300 Class 2
certificates from Verisign?
Then some further 1800 or more committer certificates?

That is a staggeringly expensive project to even consider. Even if
they were donated to the ASF, that would be another component of an
already bustling infrastructure metropolis, we are just not geared up
for that yet. That's not to say we couldn't be, but at the moment we
are not.

[Travel Assistance] Applications for ApacheCon EU 2009 - Now Open

2009-01-23 Thread Tony Stevenson

The Travel Assistance Committee is now accepting applications for those
wanting to attend ApacheCon EU 2009 between the 23rd and 27th March 2009
in Amsterdam.

The Travel Assistance Committee is looking for people who would like to
be able to attend ApacheCon EU 2009 who need some financial support in
order to get there. There are very few places available and the criteria
is high, that aside applications are open to all open source developers
who feel that their attendance would benefit themselves, their
project(s), the ASF or open source in general.

Financial assistance is available for travel, accommodation and entrance
fees either in full or in part, depending on circumstances. It is
intended that all our ApacheCon events are covered, so it may be prudent
for those in the United States or Asia to wait until an event closer to
them comes up - you are all welcome to apply for ApacheCon EU of course,
but there must be compelling reasons for you to attend an event further
away that your home location for your application to be considered above
those closer to the event location.

More information can be found on the main Apache website at
http://www.apache.org/travel/index.html - where you will also find a
link to the online application form.

Time is very tight for this event, so applications are open now and will
end on the 4th February 2009 - to give enough time for travel
arrangements to be made.

Good luck to all those that apply.

Regards,
The Travel Assistance Committee
