- Is it possible now to dial numer while viewing calls list (i.e. missed
calls). In last image you could not do it from there - you had to select
open contact, find desired number and select it to call.

This bug has not yet been fixed. Will keep an eye on it, though.

- How to turn off predictive keyboard? I want to use this keyboard (it
is very nice to use with fingers) but I do not want to use english words...

When in some edit field there is a downarrow icon to the left of the
battery status icon, you can use to switch input methods. I believe
predictive keyboard is scheduled to use other (languages) dictionaries,
but I am not sure.

The sources are open, so anyone with enough interest could make it that way.

- How can I use Sync Agent for qtopia 4.3? I couldn't find any
pre-compiled version (source either). It would be perfect that I could
find version for MacOS X.

I think Qtopia Sync Agent will only sync with Outlook. The docs are
sparse and I have submitted a bug report about it.

DUN (Dial up Networking) is the standard, I believe.
That gives control to the 'laptop', whereas PAN (Personal Area Network)
really just networks the two devices and doesn't necessarily provide for
connection sharing, IIRC, but this is all from memory, so I may be quite
mistaken.

Be careful what you wish for :-) The physical SIM serves as an authentication
token, which is why they are made difficult to copy. If you lose a phone
(or an SD card) with a copy of your SIM credentials, anybody finding it can
make phone calls at your expense, and (at least in the case of the SD card)
you might not notice the loss until this problem had become very expensive.
And don't look for a freefund -- I doubt that any carrier would be at all
sympathetic to *this* sob story!

However, it would be nice if you could just put a sim card into the
Neo (or other OpenMoko) phone, select "copy sim to softsim" from the
menu, and have a software copy of the sim available in the phone.
Then you could change back to another physical sim card, and you would
have dual sim capability in the phone without the need for any extra
hardware at all.

Perhaps one could expand this - why settle for dual sim capability
when you could have multi sim capability?

I see a few possible obstacles:
- legal: is it ok (legally) to copy the sim? (IMHO, it should be, as
long as you are not trying to use the physical sim and the softsim
copy at the same time)
software: the OpenMoko phone stack would need the capability to handle
two (or more) sim cards at the same time. Not only being able to
receive calls for both / all sim cards automatically, but also allow
the user to select a sim card to call (or send sms messages) from, and
a way to inform the user about what sim card / phone number is being
called, in addition to who is calling.
This should be doable.

This would be a cool feature.
I know that I could definitely use the dual sim capability. I doubt
that I would have a need for multi sim capability.

Re: Bluetooth SIM Access Profile

2007-11-27 Thread Brad Midgley
Hi

It would be appropriate for this to be handled mostly by bluez, but
the missing piece is gsmd needs to present some APIs for sim card
access from the gsm module.

I don't see anything about it in the gsmd docs on the wiki:

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Gsmd/document
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Gsmd

It will require some detailed docs on the gsm module to make it work.

Nope. It hasn't been implemented yet. Qtopia uses GPRS through the

made working for the Neo yet. The work is still pending, I will ping the

If you want to compile this yourself, you will need a Qtopia 4.3.1

the line:

I suggest using this mediaengine for Qtopia instead of gstreamer, as

I think it must be cumbersome to carry around a usb sim card reader that you
attach and deattach each time you need the second sim. Might as well stick a

Chris Hessing wrote, on 27/11/07 05:14:

I have done a little bit of work with SIM cards in Linux. You should
check out the PCSC project. It isn't the easiest thing to get running,
but it can read and write data to/from SIM cards. (Assuming you have a
reader it supports. I have a Towitoko Chipdrive, and a Cardman 6020
that it works with. I have also gotten in to work with the SIM card
slots on the Dell D620 notebook.) I have used these libraries to
implement EAP-SIM and EAP-AKA functionality in XSupplicant.

I found:

http://pcsclite.alioth.debian.org/ccid.html

but the links to products that specifically mentioned SIM cards seemed
to be dead )-:.

There are also cheap USB SIM readers, and I got the impression that
they could write to the card as well. So I got one on ebay. The
software that came with it (only for Windows) could only read the
card. I wish there was a Linux alternative, especially one that can
also write the contacts to the SIM. (But since the Neo itself could
do that, I guess it's no longer necessary.)

There is a product called SIM Manager from www.smartsilicon.com.au that
is MS-Windows only, but having bought one at a run-out sale for AUD$2 it
does read and write the phone contacts list fine under Win98SE.

Struggling to get back on topic, a USB SIM card reader/writer that works
under GNU/Linux with free specifications and drivers would be a great
complement to the NEO 1973 and successors. Would FIC be in a position to
make available such a product?
