OSX OpenMoko Flasher trying to flash wrong partition (was: Re: [FDOM] new release 20080927)

2008-09-27 Thread Peter Neubauer
Ahh,
using the command line dfu-util unstead of the MacOS OpneMoko-Flasher
I could start flashing. It seems that pointing out the FDOM download
location lists the .jffs as a RootFS, but the the FreeRunner is
reporting it is flashing to the partition "factory".

It seems the graphical frontend is becoming too outdated to be used anymore ...

Hope that helps others ...

Re: [FDOM]: where are the sources?

2008-09-27 Thread David Samblas
FDOM is not source based, is basically a backup of my phone :), I(we)
install a 2008.X base distro and then add packages through opkg and fix
some things manually , tweaking config files and adding packages from
other repositories resolving dependencies manually too.

We are creating a svn server with a full rootfs to be able to install it
on the phone and commit directly from the phone the tweaks we do, but
actualy I was unable to boot from the checkout of the svn more info at
the fdom-devel list

Might be writing it to the wrong alternative. Using dfu-util the
alternative should be rootfs. Also make sure it is writing to the
openmoko, there is the possibility, like with my laptop, that you'll
have multiple dfu capable devices.

Next time try separating your text into shorter paragraphs, it's easier to
read :)

I hadn't encountered any of these problems -- I got python-pyqt built against
the org.openembedded.stable tree (that is, the 4.3.3 version), and installed
qt4-x11-free-4.4.1 (from angstrom). They are still binary compatible, and it
just worked on my Neo, except for the fact that I have to make sure
LD_LIBRARY_PATH doesn't point to /opt/Qtopia first before starting python (as
their libraries have the same name, and most of the same functions, but are
missing some symbols such as QX11EmbedWidget).

Cheers,

Development environment suggestion ?

2008-09-27 Thread Andreas Wallin
Hello community lists !
I just read the mail "call for community action"

I would make som suggestions for making developing openmoko software
more "easy".
Why not create some virtual machines with all compilingtools and needed
software installed to "get ready" for bugfixing/developing openmoko
softwares.

This may be virtualbox images.. Nothing fancy, just ubuntu with
toolchain, maybe even a "ready" eclipse version. Publish this by
torrents, Maybe even with "good" to go software used during development.
I spent lots of time before i got a working environment to develop/debug
my openmoko in.

greetings !

WOW!!! great...I'd really like to have FSO in OM2008.x
With that I could use it as a phone...
For that i'll have to add the missed calls features...but I don't think
that would be hard:
A phone normally save the missed calls on the sim card(enter the pin
before using theses commands):
AT+CPBS=?
AT+CPBS="MC"
AT+CPBR=?
AT+CPBR= result of AT+CPBR=?

here's where I found them: http://gatling.ikk.sztaki.hu/~kissg/gsm/at+c.html

I wonder if FSO stores it in the sim card when a call is missed
By the way...i had made calls with my original phone, then I've put the
card in the openmoko, booted on qtopia, rebooted on FSO,rebooted in
qtopia...and switched off my phone...and put back my sim card into the old
phone and the calls made were erased...that's a minor issue but still...is
it a known bug/feature? is it FSO or qtopia?

Getting Zhone to work on Om-testing

2008-09-27 Thread Peter Mogensen
Hi,

I've been trying to get FSO D-bus api working on the OM-testing
distribution (from http://downloads.openmoko.org/daily/)

The zhone package available in testing installs fine and D-bus seems to
work. I can query with mickeydbus and I can see incoming events when I
call the phone.

The Neo vibrates, but Zhone doesn't react. I can also use Zhone to call
another phone. The other phone rings and Zhone detects that it has been
answered, but that's about it. No sound and Zhone doesn't detect when I
hangup.

Zhone says "No dbus", but cleary it can do something with the D-bus. As
registering on the GSM network and make call.

Also strange: frameworkd seems to consume a lot of CPU. (around 80%).

What is needed to get a basic FSO framework to run on testing?

/Peter

A Call for community action

2008-09-27 Thread Steve Mosher
The other day I was pondering all the things the community does for us.
They give us new ideas, test our product and give us honest feedback,
keep us true to our commitment for openness ( the idea to release the
CAD files came from the community, help us market the product, and they
fix bugs.

Recently I was reviewing the goals for 2008.10, and I wondered what else
is on the list of things that need fixing. SO I asked the testing team
to give me a list of bugs that didnt make the 2008.10 list.

My idea. throw these out to community and see if folks would pick a bug
and try to fix it, actually sign up to try to fix it, so we get a
coordinated effort. Sean liked the idea and I thought it was worth a try.

Here is the list of Bugs, look through the list and if your moved to
action just respond with a mail to the list:

Re: Re: dfu-error -71

2008-09-27 Thread rhn
Thanks for your answer.
After some additional research (fairly chaotic, it appeared I can't flash
anything), I managed to shed some more light on the problem:
 - It cut the download at some 50 MB no matter what image I was using
 - after connecting the cable to another computer (no intermediate cables) it
flashed
o it went faster than ever (maybe because I didn't use root account on that
computer before as normal user could run it just fine)
o it was a stable version of a distro I'm using (the other computer has
*some* stability issues)

Sorry 'bout that, but this sounds as if your previous phone messed in a
non-standard way with the SMS by tagging them as 'unsent'.

Re: [FDOM] dfu-error -71

2008-09-27 Thread Boris Wong
I have had bad experience with the dfu_util before. It appeared almost
the same as your problem. It would download part way and show up as an
error.

I originally had a USB extension cable to the back of my computer. Bad
idea. I ended up using the (fairly short) cable that came out of the box
and it worked perfectly. My connections are sometimes loose though.
Maybe this will help.

I think these two lines are useless (and the RH- prefix makes me think
it comes from a RedHat based system).

Anyway, here you're creating a chain you do not seem to use (unless
it is magically used by Ubuntu).

This one is necessary; you'd better specify the output interface with -o
(for example -o eth0).

I wonder what it's supposed to do.

That's very nice, Kelvie.
I'm still trying to get a working and safe oetree with qt library inside :).
The first time i tried with the org.openembedded.dev branch and my typical
angstrom configured local.conf file, but it got a compilation error on
uicmoc4-native. After that i tried with the fso openmoko conf file, it
failed again but i noted that the preferred version of qt4 there was 4.3.3
instead of 4.4.1. I remembered that in org.openembedded.stable there was
4.3.3 version, so i tried again with the stable branch. It compiled fine but
did not create all the requested ipk (empty). I managed a bit on the
qt_packaging.inc recipie and finally i got a working qt-oe-tree, i was able
to compile a my application too. I bitbaked the last fso unstable image and
flashed the phone with it, setupped a fake feed server on my oe tree, added
it to feeds on the phone and did opkg update, opkg install qt4-x11-free,
opkg install my-application, and after that i was able to start it adding a
simple DISPLAY=:0.
But i'm not very happy of this as it's not simple and i do not like to mix
different branches.
Please share your experience on this...

any notice. I became aware of it, when the phone of my friend received

Yeah. the four corners of the screen and then the centre of the screen
are 5 different "buttons"
trial and error mens you eventually work out which is which :)

I don't think it's anything to do with that bug. It's running in portrait and
I think it's 480x640. The whole screen responds to touch which it wouldn't do
in 240x320 according to the bug report. I think it's just the way an app with
a keyboard interface was ported to work on a device with only a touchscreen.
