fix broken links
Dear all: The Openmoko distribution maintainer start to do some change on downloads server( Downloads.openmoko.org) . This change cause the broken links of many Wiki pages. The old link of released images was located at : http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Omxxx Now should be link to here : http://downloads.openmoko.org/distro/releases/ I will use web link search function to fix this problem. http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Special:Linksearch But I can only fix English and Chinese version. So , if you also find some broken link on wiki page that are not fixed , feel free to correct it . That will be help. Best Regards. I ran Kustomizer last night following the Wiki docs and it took a while, but it worked and I was happy to see an updater/package installer run to completion w/ out crashing for once. Sorry to be such a cynic, I know people work hard to make things nicer for us in the OpenMoko community. I guess I've been burned a lot on packaging dependancies and prereqs on Linux in general over the years so my first thought when trying something like that is to wonder how something is going to break. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. I've had my FR for about 2 weeks now and I really think it does take some time of modding and hacking on it to get it to not just be usable, but usable how you want. That, IMHO, is why you're buying an FR rather than what the carrier shops have for sale. My current setup on my FR is with a Kustomized Om 2008-12 flashed into NVRAM and Qtopia on microSD. Re: multitouch possible?
Apple's multitouch system, on the software end, is based on heavy use of gestures. Gestures are stupid and limiting, so don't do them. Instead, build on simple logical rules that expand organically to multiple fingers. For example, a basic physics simulation can be used for dragging objects; one finger just pushes it from any corner, but the addition of a second finger (which holds it rigid at a point) allows that object to be stretched or rotated. Gestures aren't natural; they are based on approximations, feel detached, and always will be the boring way of doing things ;) Bye, -Dylan ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Together with what you mentioned above : "One thing is that later on the coverage display on the top does change to show my coverage but it's down as "No Service"." Robin Paulson wrote: > this is a fine idea. it's somewhat clumsy invoking 10 scripts manually > - i'm sure it could be coded to do this automatically, but it's a > decent first step. It is clumsy indeed. Just a test to see if parallel curl would help - or not. Turns out that it helped. :-) Running the curl and the md5sum in parallel would help too, and it'd be sort of perfect: md5sum would then use the cpu while curl waits for the network to respond. currently, curl waits for an answer, and then md5sum runs after that. md5sum is quicker than curl, so the md5sum time could be hidden completely. One md5sum isn't much time, but saving the time for 50.000 invocations will probably amount to something. Re: yaouh! 0.3 is out
Risto H. Kurppa wrote: > Every now and then I get "wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 > Not Found" but mostly it looks like running nice. Yaouh does not seem to do any error checking. If curl fails somehow, then it blindly notices that the md5sum of the file doesn't match the blank string (or error message) from curl, and downloads the tile. (Start yaouh without a network, and it will claim to update every file, with curl just timing out on every check...) If wget fails, you just don't get that tile updated. If anything else goes wrong, the app crashes. Unfortunately, lots of other things go wrong. The gtk libraries comes up with illegal instructions, unaligned accesses and segmentation faults now and then. > I liked your 10x speedup hack but I'm still running the original > version (0.4 I think). The speedup trick works, but I'd be the first to admit it isn't user-friendly. The worst part of it is that yaouh crashes now and then due to gtk problems, and this gets 10x worse with 10 processes. Still - restarting various processes 7-8 times gets me the tileset quicker than a single standard yaouh run. And the standard yaouh crashes sometimes too of course. Oh well, When you have nothing to loose you have everything to win > Just don't do it exactly the same way as apple did, then. In particular, don't read their patent for inspiration. One very simple way of getting limited multitouch is to have several adjacent touchscreens instead of one big touchscreen. 2 independent touch devices is enough for games played with "left thumb and right thumb". You can then press both flippers at once, and similiar. Duke have more than 2 buttons, but you still only have two for thumbs so no problem there. Of course, multitouch isn't really needed for gaming. Add a 4way controller and a couple of buttons on each side, and gamers should be fine. 4 independent touch devices is enough if all you want is to stretch windows in all directions at once. More if you want to play chords on a virtual piano - one touchscreen for each visible key. Calibrating the stylus to track nicely across the seams could be interesting though! If I use my FR only for making calls (I only make a few calls every day), playing some games and maybe a little GPRS usage then the battery lasts about 50 hours. I can't say about the audio quality, I usually listen to punk rock music, so the audio quality is not important for me :D But there's one problem with the headset. I bought a 2.5->3.5 adapter for my headphones. And if I push it fully in then the music comes only from the right headphone. I have to pull it out a little for the music to come from both phones. If you want to use Freerunner with OM2008.12 as a usable phone and music player and internet device and gps device then there's so many things you have to install and configure before it's usable. It took me a lot of time to get everything installed and configured (and there's still some things to do). But now there's the Kustomizer ( http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Kustomizer ), maybe this can make life a little easier. I use my Freerunner currently as my everyday phone. But I always have my old Nokia with me. Just in case. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
