RE: [SHR-unstable] unable to get gprs working

2009-02-13 Thread KaZeR
Worked here, thanks.

I applied the fix, and used fso-gprs-on.sh
I only had to add 'modprobe ppp' at the beginning of the script : if you try
to start gprs without ppp_generic loaded, it will fail and won't work until
you reboot, it has something to do with a channel '4' not being closed,
hence it tries to use '5' at the next attempt but it won't work.

Now it would be nice to be able to modify the settings from shr-settings :)

Yes, seen this just the same day. But when the fix will
 appear in the shr-unstable branch?

The fix is one line that you can change directly on the phone in a python
script.
Try it, it works here :)

(but i agree that it would be nice if it could be included directly in a new
build)

Opkg.org segfaulting packages

2009-02-13 Thread Risto H. Kurppa
Hi!

I'm using the opkg.org repository:
echo src/gz opkgorg http://www.opkg.org/packages; /etc/opkg/opkg-feed.conf

Trying to install the following apps using the repository cause the
installation to segfault:
liquidwar wireshark-common wireshark mokomaze pythm

Installing from direct URL:s (opkg install http://...) works on some
packages. There might also be some others, I'll report if I see any.

Anyone know what's wrong and could the authors fix the packages?

Also the following packages fail:

install neon ; opkg install shortom ; opkg install gpssight

I noticed some extra empty lines in

Hello again,
slightly curious about appweb and seeing a bitbake recipe I decided

I found an old discussion [1] which mentions both the c++ compiler and

to find a solution to the issue.

Thank you for the file hint, I solved the problem:
Debian-Illume needs menu-xdg (and menu?) packages to have menus to choose in

then chose the illume-applications menu in the assistant et voilà, there are

  1. If I activate the silent profile, the phone still rings.
  2. After using the phone few hours and making some calls the phone
doesn't ring anymore, it only vibrates. After rebooting it rings
  again.
  3. At some point, the phonelog application just stopped working. It
  doesn't start. I didn't do anything and I didn't change anything, I
just made a few phonecalls. When starting it, it gives me an error
saying, that there's no error message. When starting it from command

TypeError: float() argument must be a string or a number
I thought rebooting wil fix this, but it didn't.

I tried to use gprs using Joel's instructions, but it gives me the error:
  ActivateContext failed: org.freesmartphone.GSM.MUX.NoChannel

Have you solved this? Or anybody else?

Posted a request in OpenMoko community list, but no answer. Seems like
nobody notices gprs not working in shr-testing or everybody has it
working or nobody uses gprs on shr-testing.

try SHR unstable. I think it works much better than 'testing'!

Currently this doesn't seem to be automatic in any of the distros.

The generic answer is to activate gsmheadset.state, and adjust the volume
settings in it to match your preference. The correct way to do this will vary
depending on which distro you are using. The most generic is to use alsactl:

alsactl -f /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/gsmheadset.state restore

FSO has a dbus interface for this, and a rules engine that may be able to
handle the switching if the phone app doesn't. The dbus call can be made from
the command line:

mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.odeviced /org/freesmartphone/Device/Audio
org.freesmartphone.Device.Audio.PushScenario gsmheadset

Another option may be pymixer - see link at end of [1]

In either case you will need to run this after the start of the call as the
phone app is likely to load gsmhandset.state when you pick up the call.

The package on opkg.org is built for python 2.6 while 2008.12 is using
python 2.5. Since there are no code changes required between python
versions, you can simply copy

to

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pythm

 Taiwan

Now that we are in our new office, and in the new Chinese year,
recruiting will become a much bigger focus for us. We have even hired
a full-time recruiter, who worked for our parent company FIC before.
 She will start next week.
The open positions are mostly hardware positions in Taipei, but even
though the readers on these lists probably live outside of Taiwan, I
wanted to share the information so you know what's going on in Taipei.
Foreigners willing to move to Taipei are also welcome, we can help
 with work permits etc.
Without going into too many details, some of the open positions in
Taipei are Electrical Engineer, QA Engineer, QA Manager, RF Engineer,
Production Engineer, Software Engineer (low-level / kernel).

There is one open position right now we are looking to add anywhere in
 the world:
 *** Paroli Project Member ***
 For details, see http://www.paroli-project.org/
If you believe you can make a difference in Paroli, bring the power of
Python to an embedded device, please get in touch with me.

 Best Regards,
 Wolfgang

Opensatnav project requires help, especially from a coder (or 2).

2009-02-13 Thread Chris Andrew
Hi, all.

Sorry about the shameless request for help!

I am currently using AndNav2 (http://www.andnav.org/) on my Google G1
'phone (not as open as I thought it would be). Regardless of my
repeated attempts, the core of this satnav application remains
closed-source (proprietary). This has brought me to thinking that it
would be much better to produce an open source alternative.

My idea is to develop initially for the G1 and for Openmoko, and then
port to other embedded devices, as interest grows. At the moment, I
am using Openstreetmap as a place to record my ideas
(http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Opensatnav.org).

I'd really appreciate it if anybody on the list could take a moment to
have a look at my ideas. So that the list moderators don't get upset,
please email me personally if you are interested in the project.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Cheers,

Chris.

No need to change this, it's a myth that providers expect special

2009-02-13 Thread Al Johnson
There are already a number of open satnav apps that work on multiple
platforms, handheld ones included. pyroute and navit spring immediately to
mind as ones that have been shown working on Openmoko handsets. I guess the
problem for you is that they won't run under Android, but they might be
helpful references for routing algorithms.

The fix is one line that you can change directly on the phone in a python
 script.
Try it, it works here :)

(but i agree that it would be nice if it could be included directly in a new

for this file?

Also, how can I increase the volume in the headset cause the default one is
very low! You can hardly understand the person you are calling.

Hopefully it is enough to adjust control 3 Headphone Playback Volume

For me, the buzz is absolutly strength signal related.
Here in my room, I hear a very very very low buzz, but
the other side complains about it. Well, not really,
they say there's a buzz only when I ask about it.

On the other hand, if I'm on the street, or at the roof,
and I ask, many people say they have never heard a
clearer cellphone call. I'm nox exagerating: that's
what they say.

Echo apears only if I turn up the volume. The other side
hears it, but I don't.

Neverball, anyone?

since I've seen that game on a mobile telephone of a friend I want it
for the FR, too.

My programming skills are not so good in linux environment (C#, SQl, a
little VB6 and VB.NET and a very little bit Python ;)) so I just wanted
to know: Could it be possible to make neverball playable on the neo?

Source code is on the website ( http://neverball.org ) in the download
section...the source code has to be compiled, so I think the compiler
has to be installed on the neo first...but would that all work? Because
the neo processor is not the best and it's not a 686 processor or

 How may I fix this?

nothing to do with illume or e and 100% to do with the system's menu config -
the exact same config that drives gnome, kde, e, xfce etc.

/etc/xgd/menus.applications.menu (or other menu files here) is what you need.
e's first run wizard gives you a choice of all the .menu files it finds. if it
