There are other browsers in the SHR feeds so if you don't like Midori you
can replace it, some worth mentioning is  Eve, Links/Links-x11, Dillo use to
be in the feeds but don't know why the one from opkg.org wouldn't work.

Since you've already got the phone you may as well give the other firmware 
options a try. We keep finding people have different definitions of 'usable' 
so you'll have to see what suits you.

SHR should be easy to try, and is supposed to do everything you want. There's 
a GUI for the GPRS config. It has multiplexing so GPRS, SMS and telephony 
should work together (I say should as I haven't tried GPRS recently.) Midori 
might be a suitable browser, although there is a problematic interaction 
between the illume keyboard and midori's address autocompletion at the moment.

Least-hassle method of getting a usable Web browser + telephony support while GPRS is enabled?

I am using QtMoko v14.  AFAIK, QtMoko does not support GSM multiplexing,
which means even if I had a working and usable Web browser for QtMoko, I
could not use telephony functionality, such as making and receiving phone
calls, while GPRS is enabled.  If I wanted to have Internet access on my
FreeRunner, what is the least-hassle method of getting a usable Web browser
+ telephony and SMS support while GPRS is enabled?  Am I better off finding
a usable proprietary phone?  Please do not suggest the iPhone because until
the iPhone 3GS was released, Apple refused to accept my money even though I
wanted their product:  the only way to buy a new iPhone in Canada from a
store was to sign a 3-year term contract with Rogers or Fido.  That is
illogical.  If I want Apple’s product, Apple should sell it to me.  I do not
want to sign a 3-year term contract.  I have no term contract with my Fido
monthly plan.  With Rogers, I would have had to sign at least a 1-year term

Yeah, NeronGPS is in the QtMoko feeds and all you need to install it is 
a recent version of QtMoko and an internet connection. It's native to 
the Qt framework that QtMoko uses and doesn't need an X server. It has a 
slightly different interface from Navit and tango, but it's pretty easy 
to get used to.

[QtMoko] GPS navigation apps for QtMoko

Hello list,

Are there any GPS navigation apps for QtMoko, i.e., any usable without an X
server?  I cannot use QX because every time I try, I end up having to remove
the battery from my FreeRunner because my FreeRunner locks up and is
unusable.  I wanted to use Navit, but it requires a working X server.

Alternately, is there any way to get a working (non-QX) X server on QtMoko,
or use QtMoko with an X server (maybe on plain Debian)?

Months ago, I asked for recommendations of MicroSDHC cards to buy to install
plain Debian on.  I still have not even found a place to buy any of the
recommended cards because I have not made doing so a sufficiently high
priority for it to ever be done.

My parents gave me a Garmin nûvi GPS navigator (I do not remember which
model, but I can find out if you want) as an early Christmas gift, so I at
least have a working GPS navigation solution, but it would be better if I
could use my FreeRunner as a GPS navigator.  I never use cell phones while
driving because doing so is a recipe for disaster for me:  I always pull
over and stop before using a cell phone.  I am mentioning this because I
wonder if it simplifies finding a GPS navigation app because I do not use
cell phones while driving, so I do not have to answer nor make calls while

[wikireader] Border interactions

Hi all,

Attached to this mail is a small patch I wrote a while ago, introducing
border interactions. It quite simply hacks in a 15px magical border
which when tapped induces certain actions:
  * upper border: page up;
  * lower border: page down;
  * left border: history back;
  * right border: history forward.

I've added page up & down because it reads far faster and scrolling
(at least on my wikireader) turned out to be quite unreadable. History
back and forward are handy shortcuts while clicking through links of an
article.

   This could be annoying for the real happy owner to view this button
every time he looks at shr-today. A button can be drawn upon arrival
of specially formatted SMS (like sms-sentry works). If SIM card isn't
authenticated yet (no GSM channel to tower), button is on shr-today
page.

[QtMoko] VoIP

first of all thank to every contributor to QtMoko: it's great!

I'm trying to use some kind of VoIP (both gtalk and "traditional" one,
with an euteliavoip account), but I'm facing two problems:
-I don't know how to check the connection status;
-if connected fore sure, I don't know how make/receive phone calls.

Oki, i'll try to get multiplexing back or at least configurable. I think
the stuck-in-PIN-code is possible to fix - i hope i am getting idea

I have a 2 Ampere Cigarette adapter from my gas station near my home.
It started working with a standard USB A -> B cable and no extra  
resistor.

As of the price sign it is a kombase 'USB-Ladestecker'. EAN:  
4260098010084
It costs ~ 15.95 €. But I am unsure you get the same. I have tried and  
succeeded.

No, I simply have sometimes to fiddle the cable into the neo before  
starting the engine.
It would be very nice if there are two contacts in the size of the  
small fingernail. Then
one simply need to 'clip' it into a housing with counterpart contacts.  
The USB cable therefore
is in the clip housing and it should have mounting device similar to  
those swan neg navigarion
holder. Then the original device could be replaced by this device.

Maybe someone could use blender to design such a device. I am only  
capable to design the
electronics using KICAD. Another option would be a Wing drawing to be  
used as a electronic
part for KICAD. I don't know if anyone has done similar parts to  
appear more like a housing.

This could be fun to have a "If you found this phone" button on SHR 
today (or any screensaver app). This app could contain information about 
tht owner and ability to send text message to another number or call the 
owner (on another phone number of course)...
