I just rediscovered this improvement, by playing with alsamixer; then
found this existing thread by googling.

So: yes, I can confirm that changing 'Mic Sidetone Mux' from 'Mic 2'
to 'Right PGA' improves call audio for my callees. My wife even
described it as 'quite fine' :-).

But if you use the speaker (intone, podboy, mplayer...), don't you have
sound only in one side (right in your case) ?

Re: Buzz-Fix and #1024 @ FOSDEM

2010-02-06 Thread Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller
Since we have been asked: this is not the official rework done by
Handheld Linux (that is a paid rework company in Munich using stereo
microscopes). I am just forwarding the news. Just go there, look and
ask. At FOSDEM this is a really free and open hardware rework.

Tuxbrain is also there, openmoko.fr is there and many others. So you
can also see the Qi Nanonote and the Sharp Netwalker.

there is now a Buzz-Fix and #1024 fix opportunity at FOSDEM.

Please go to the End of the hallway with the Stands. Opposite of the
Room 1301 (Sallew Leon Cornil) you will find a booth where Openmokos
and Nanonotes are shown. And a nice guy is sitting there with
Soldering Iron waiting for your Openmoko.

Re: OM future

2010-02-06 Thread Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller
Although I am not an official from OM I think I can answer some of
your questions. See below. If I am wrong, I would be happy to be
corrected...

 Hi lists,
hoping that some official OpenMoko employee is still reading this ml
 i'd
like to know which are the plans for the future. There will be a
 GTA03??

No. GTA03 development was cancelled last year in favour of the
WikiReader.

If so are you working on it? So, the FR is a good thing, now it's 2
years old and you know, it has its problems (1024, buzz, glamo,...)
 so,

These problems are now solved. There are either buzz / 1024 fixes
around, some companies or nice guys offering them. And recently we
have started to offer GTA02A7+ (where buzz and 1024 are already
fixed). This is of course not done by OM, Inc. but others. But does
that make any difference?

For the GLAMO there has also been much progress. AFAIK, the official
X.org server now supports it quite well. And the kernel has also been
accelerated recently.

i'd like to look forward and get a new wonderful device like this.

There is at least one public project: GTA02-core aiming at new devices
like this (i.e. freeopen smartphone platform). And, I know of at
least one more project to be announced this year.

 So any news??

Yes, many. But probably not from the sources you have looked at. They
are not that aggregated and said by an official spokesperson.

So there is no need to wait for OM, Inc. This is also the real benefit
of that OM did open a lot of information and materials to secure the
future of the Openmoko movement, even if the company does no longer
participate. That is probably the best thing that did happen - to
successfully seed an idea.

 Thanks a lot!

 Pietro

Hmm, sounds like a few possible hardware issues there. However...

Is there a how to document on the wiki that might tell someone in my
shoes how to bring the device up to date so that I can try again?

Step 1: Try turning it on and plugging in the wall charger - to find
out if it is working well enough to get charged up. (In the early
days, there were serious problems if the battery became completely
empty...)

Step 2: Once fully charged, follow the instructions for flashing and
trying out SHR-Testing.
