Re: QtMoko v37 for GTA04

2011-12-03 Thread fdvjoif
Please Radek continue to support the GTA02 if you can. Many of us will
use the GTA02 for a long time yet and QtMoko is definitely the better
solution for everyday usage, IMHO :) I was just thinking to do some
experiments in the next weeks and it would be great to work on the new
release!

Hi Radek

thanks (as ususal) for your great work. Yes, please do a GTA02 release if
possible. Especially the keyboard was one reason why Qtmoko may have not been
 as
popular as it deserves to be. With the big landscape keyboard this will all
 change!

+1

I hope the gta04 succeeds, but I'm not sure I'll be jumping from the
freerunner. I hope that enhancements made to qtmoko will be ported back to the
older hware for the forseable future.

Best wishes

Re: GTA04 openness/freedom (was GTA04 Group Buy - Status)

2011-12-03 Thread dmatthews.org
Hi Michael

Well I for one would like a smartphone with completely open software - if an
open implementation of baseband code also led to an improvement in user
experience on the freerunner, that would be a bonus. Like you, I'm not too
concerned about rules imposed on us by large corporations, if the code is good,
they will not know their rules are being broken.

I can understand that the calypso currently is the best chance to achieve this;
it is nice to imagine this will be done and then act like a trojan to open the
gates wide for other projects.

I've no knowledge of how to code directly to hardware, so I'm never going to be
more than a bystander, at least not until the stage was reached where testing
could be done. I have no clue whether what you say, about people in the free
software camp witholding code/information from you is a fact. As I bystander,
if it were true it is dissappointing, although I think you have gone about this
in a very sub-optimal way and that you should step back and consider how to
approach people who may (or indeed may not) be able to help you.

Best wishes

Great! I was hoping so, being unable to attend because this weekend it's
Sinterklaas in the Netherlands.

I hope I'll work out a way to view the swf-stream; my systems are not
powerfull enough to have flash/gnash installed and running the few
advertisements that escaped the blocker.

Any idea how to run the stream in eg VLC? The format is a bit unreadable:

Sure, dont be afraid, i am not dropping GTA02 support at all. My plan is just

Hi Radek,

Thanks for all your work. You have made my GTA-02 from unreliable to a
daily phone. Please continue to release GTA-02 updates. I'll get a new
board when I can and I am thinking a custom case such as your own because
a wooden phone would be so beautiful. Thinking maple (I am an amateur
luthier).

Re: Phoenux in the media, Part xxiv

2011-12-03 Thread Dave
I suppose the expense aspect comes down to what do you expect for your
money. I currently use my Freerunner as a day to day phone - but I never
expected this community and the software to be as solid as it is now. I
bought it as a toy, not a day to day phone.

If the GTA-04 board is not able to function as a reliable daily phone -
great - I expect this functionality will take time. I look at the
educational aspects, learning more stuff as the value. I can buy a simple
Nokia for $30 at the grocery store if it isn't good enough to use ase a
main mobile (yet).

Summary : I never expected the Freerunner to be a reliable day to day phone
but it is! A lot of tweaking IS required (forgetting hardware mods). I want
to take it to the next level of technology which the GTA-04 board will
afford me. And I will afford it knowledge is power my friends.
