Re: R: Camera and MMS

However I have nothing against the following: two models, one
with camera and one without it. However I have no idea how hard and
costly this to implement (usually, developing 2 devices costs more but
probably dropping features is relatively easy - just do not solder some
parts on same PCB and use a bit altered case).

I just want to remind you of my suggestion: Camera is internal but neo
has two backs, one with hole(s) for lens (and flash) and another one
covering the camera parts. See point 5 in
http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/community/2006-November/000335.html

Best regards
Stony

Re: Neither iPhone or OpenMoko are revolutionary

Who do I talk to ask them to include WiFi connectivity with the
OpenMoko? I'll sell my body parts to get hold of such a device.

I'd resell your kidneys :-)

Why does no organisation (even Apple) seem to get it that the mobile
communications revolution is through VoIP via WiFi. This is the
 killer app.

They got it. But VoIPoWLAN as the *only* speech channel is no killer
app, IMHO. It's VoIPoWLAN + GSM. Here the GSM providers enter the stage
and don't like the idea too much, thus don't sponsor such devices.

 Please include WiFi!

It's just a matter of patience. OpenMoko/Neo is the Way[TM].

Re: multicolour multi-touch screen Re: OpenMoko/Neo1973 is pure (r)evolution :))) - do you recognized the power of multi-touch gesture recognition

No keystroke at all - using just the different color points - areas
and use the combinatoric - 10 colour points without different areas
would give the power of 10! = 3.628.800 combinations
more areas would give more power
 - so it would become possible to write shorthand/stenography with this
device and even faster then with normal keyboards.

Go go, gadgetto-hand, to hold my neo 'cause I want to write the next
chapter of How to become a mach-3 typer with eight fingers and two
thumbs on a 2.8 screen.[1]

Anyway, didn't want to stop your flow of ideas.

BTW: What do you think about T9? Touching instead pressing keys could
speed up the process noticable. And the user has the option to fit the
geometry of keys to his fingers.

[1] I printed a picture of neo in its original size and... yes it fits,
but don't expect to see anything else but fingers.

Re: Light sensor

Talking about using the Microphone as a sensor reminded me of an idea I had
some time ago, I'm regularly in noisy places such as crowded railway stations
or bars. Wouldn't it be good if the neo1973 could check the ambient noise
level before it started to ring, adjusting the ring tone volume to be heard
over the background noise. i.e. ring nice and quietly (or on vibrate) when
I'm in a library, or ring at full volume when I'm in a noisy bar.

I like this idea very much! Simple but really helpful, like light sensor
-- backlight.

Thumbs up!

See http://treoware.com/brightcam.html for a great example of how this
works on the Treo 650 via a third party utility which measures
brightness through the camera, and sound levels through the
 microphone.

This utility does everything mentioned in this thread so far I think.

Hm, maybe the ambient noise around the phone is not enough info for the
ring volume. I could be in another room. If I had an AGPS-Mic-WiFi
implant, the neo could measure my distance and ambient noise and adjust
its ring volume accordingly. An alternative would be the an
AGPS-WiFi-Vibra implant.
