I get a similar complaint from my Adobe Reader but about a font named
"ARMingtiMBIG-5" (BIG-5 sure sounds like some asian font (chinese?))

Antoine

PS: you may be able to find a free copy of Tahoma somewhere, google is your
friend... I couldn't easily find my missing font though.. (and I already had
Tahoma)

Article about FreeRunner in Von Magazine (march/april 2008, vol.6, no.2)

2008-05-23 Thread Antoine Reid
Good morning everyone.

There is a small article in the current edition of Von Magazine (Vol.6,
No.2) about the FreeRunner.

In fact, there is a picture of the Neo1973 on the first page in the Table of
Contents!

Then, on page 10, there is a small article about FreeRunner.

For those who would like to see an electronic version of the magazine, point
your favorite browser to the following URL and navigate using the top menu.

http://www.vonmag-digital.com/vonmag/20080304/

The article itself can be viewed directly at the following URL:

http://vonmag.com/technology/open-source/openmoko-unveils-neo-freerunner-open-phone

I thought some of you might like to see the article, or maybe reference it
somewhere on the Wiki. Apologies if this is old news..

Antoine

PS: Disclaimer: I am NOT affiliated with von mag at all. I just stumbled on
a printed copy of the magazine at work...

Don't you need to open the case to insert the battery, the SIM card and the
SD card? Or am I mistaken here? Do you need to remove another panel to get
to the debug board connector?

People who will use the device in the bus or in the car will hate you,
unless there is an *easy* way to disable those small gestures, or make sure
it is not too sensitive. :)

While I don't mind using large gestures to perform some operations (like
turning the phone upside-down to prevent it from ringing), I don't think
small gestures should be on by default. Otherwise, it'll be very hard to
use in any case other than sitting down and almost not moving at all...

Everyone.

I have to agree with Brad here. Wifi has other uses too!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants/needs the Neo/Freerunner to connect
to some private networks over Wifi. I don't want to have to go through my
telco's network and back through my internet connection just to reach my
network. Also, doing it that way would mean that I absolutely need some
sort of VPN solution on top of the communications channel at all times. I
don't necessarily want a data plan just to use the device on my own network.
I *NEED* Wifi. A bonus would be to switch to a Wifi chipset that allows
promisc and other similar uses.

For me, removing Wifi from the device would be a deal breaker.

+1 for Canada!

We can order from the USA and the shipping costs are usually not too large,
but we end up paying a lot on insurance and broker/custom fees. It's a
little better now that the Canadian dollar is pretty much on par with the US
dollar but still.. Having a distributor in Canada would be very nice!

Hi everyone! Coming out of lurking mode...

Although I'm not sure I would like a blacklist coming from the Internet (for
all the scenarios that Heikki is invoking), I would definitely like a
flexible blacklist/whitelist mechanism, at the minimum being able to group
Contact entries into different groups and have ring overrides for some of
these groups in different profiles.

I'm thinking about different scenarios like: "during a meeting, don't ring
except if caller is in the VIP list" or "after business hours, ring for
anyone except if it's in a group called work". I would guess it would make
more sense to have this done using a generic mechanism (something like:
create a new profile. Select default ringer (on or off). Then, add
exception groups that should behave contrary to the default for the
profile). This way, different users with different needs would be able to
get what they want.
