OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner GTA02 A6 for Sale

2012-02-04 Thread Bernhard Reiter
I'm selling my OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner GTA02 A6 for € 150 (I bought it
in August 2008 for € 299).
It had the buzz fix applied by Golden Delicious Computers in June 2009.

It comes with the original stylus, recharger, Transcend 512MB Micro SD
card plus SD adpater, packaging, and battery (which lasts probably not
as long as in the beginning anymore), *plus* a spare one which was only
very rarely used, and a headset.

It's in good (though obviously not mint) condition. I've just flashed it
to a fresh QtMoko v35.
This might also be an interesting purchase for people considering GTA04
currently offered by Golden Delicious Computers.

I'm located in Linz, Austria. I'm willing to ship the phone to locations
in Austria or (most of) Europe at the rates given below. For other
locations, I'd need to calculate the shipping rates before I can agree
to ship there.
Picking it up at my place at no extra cost (and paying cash;-) is also
okay. I might travel to Vienna within the next month, to which I could
also take it, but that's not quite certain yet.

For payment, I'd prefer
• normal money transfer (for which I will provide my IBAN/BIC data); I
will ship an insured package after having received the money, at € 4.30
(Austria) or € 13.50 (Europe).
• or COD (=Nachnahme), but only after having received at least the
shipping costs by money transfer, which in this case are € 7.80
(Austria) or € 18 (Europe).

+1.
I've only recently switched from SHR to qtmoko (v31) and I'm impressed
with performance and maturity of applications. I really wouldn't like to
lose that again.

 Hi,

I hope there is still some chances that Radek will change his
 dicision.

From my point of view where is no real need in FSO/qt gibrid,
 because of
 following reasons:

 1. qt stack has richer functionalily, better performance, and
 less bugs
than that FSO dbus/vala thing (don't throw rotten tomatoes to
 me plese)
 2. qt has it's own resource management, FSO - it's own,
 rewriting qt one
to FSO one is worthless effort
 3. where logs of significantly more useful, easier and
 non-destructive
goals to rich, i can suggest few:
3.1 switch back to X11. with new graphical subsystem
 performance this
 will work great.
3.2 switch to newer qt versions
 3.3 fix 100500 bugs left
 3.4 add gta04 support - most important
 3.5 improve performance and usability
3.6 implement new features, like: 'geek' theme, sliding
 buttons in
 answer screen

^^^ IMO this set can keep everyone busy for a while.

where is also no real benefit visible from switching to FSO.
 qtmoko will
become more complicated, more buggy, slower, harder to
 develop :(

I afraid i'll have to stay on non-FSO version forether. And
 certain,
this planned change worth more discussion. If someone wants
 FSO, better
to install it on debian or with SHR.

 Gennady.

 Just something
like about a year or, say, not less than four months.

Writing simple dialer application could be matter of
 days/hours. Integrating
all the functions so that it looks like qtmoko now will be
 much more difficult
(i cant even guess how much). We also need FSO running on
 debian - i'd prefer
current git version. I am not aware if there are debian
 packages for recent
  FSO. Anyone knows?

hi,

and thanks for the dbus calls, i managed to clean all the 20 messages
that had really piled up there!

referring to what pike said, where can i tell shr to store messages not
on the sim but eg on the sd?

one more issue: i can't seem to edit the fields in my contacts (which i
just imported from my sim); this also applies to new entries. i can
create them and add fields, but not enter any information into those
fields. anyone else experiencing this?

regards and thanks for the help so far,

ophonekitd wasn't perfect, but now it should be rock solid). That's
just matter of used versions. Saying om2009 is unstable cause i can't

also in SHR, and vice versa.

Om2009 was much stabler than SHR-unstable. That's why I liked SHR more

shr-unstable is now stabler than om2009.

And don't get me wrong - i'm SHR developer, and I love SHR, and I

work, I just don't like approach everything in one big daemon, but
my opinion doesn't make Paroli worse... I'll just use SHR without
 saying bad words on Paroli.

well, so maybe it's because i was using om2009t5 (not unstable), but it
having being promoted as stable enough for daily use, i was pretty
disappointed to find it was not. and with shr-u (from around 07/31, i
think), things worked pretty good. so maybe i really don't know enough
about internals and organization, but trust me: with om2009t5, i
couldn't pick up about every other incoming call -- or more -- which
made it practically useless. with shr-u, i can pick up calls. that's
about all i wanted to say about om2009 vs. shr.

bernhard

Well, probably reality isn't as simple as i presented in this post.
But i'm sure it's at least close to ;) And I hope you'll understand
what I said. This post can be noisy cause i'm excited with listening

+1. I tried OM2009t5 around July hoping for a minimal functioning phone
distro, and after facing some pretty severe issues (sound quality, not
able to pick up phone calls pretty regularly) I switched to SHR-U. Which
gave me what I wanted: fairly good sound quality, and most important, no
more frustration having to watch my phone ring and not being able to
pick it up. Oh, and a couple of nice apps out of the box, too.

OM2009 users: are you successfully using your Freerunners as phones
(also picking up calls)? Or just for non-phone purposes?

My 0,02€: There's SHR, which is pretty advanced, also in terms of plain
basic phone functionalityso. I don't see any reason for OM2009 to catch
up to where SHR already is.

What little I've seen of that code does not look promising. The author
didn't understand the netif_stop_queue()/netif_wake_queue() calls, so who
knows what else might have gone wrong? Someone needs to sit down with the
firmware interface specification (i.e. from the existing driver?) and match
it up with the Linux network device API (make htmldocs) and then write
 a new driver.

any takers? at least for a detailed bug report? rask, what about
yourself?

ok, using fsoraw it seems to connect to the router (only the important
part given here):

Trying to associate with mac address (SSID='SSID' freq=2437 MHz)
Associated with mac address
WPA: Key negotiation completed with mac address [PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP]
CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to mac address completed (auth)

But unfortunately, I still can't ping my router, nor can I ping the
FreeRunner from my laptop either.

[shr-u] wifi timeout with mokonnect

2009-08-10 Thread Bernhard Reiter
hi,

using shr-u and mokonnect, i get a timeout when trying to connect to my
managed wpa-secured home wlan router (while it is trying to setup
dhcp, though things work fine with my laptop). is this some well-known
issue or do i have to investigate my setup? (any debugging hints?) and
what is the rsn encryption option that i get by default after a
network scan but can't select in the list of encryption ways?

[shr-u] contacts outside sim?

2009-08-08 Thread Bernhard Reiter
hi,

i've just flashed from 0m2009 to shr-u, and for the first time in about
a year, i'm somewhat confident that i'll be actually able to use my
freerunner for phone calls!

there's only one thing i'm sorely missing ( and haven't really found an
answer to apart from a rather short note on
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/SHR#Address_Book ): is storing contacts on
the sim really the only option currently? is there work going on to also
enable storing on sd or flash? any estimates when it will be ready?

regards,
bernhard

[Om2009 t5] Some issues ideas

2009-07-05 Thread Bernhard Reiter
Hi,

I've just upgraded my recently buzz-fixed Freerunner from Om2008 to
testing release 5 and so far, things look quite good. There's a couple
of minor issues I'm currently experiencing, though:

* I can log into home WLAN through Paroli's Wifi GUI and also ping my
router, but I can't reach any IP address on the internet.

* After an opkg upgrade (I think), paroli displays loading forever,
and then complains about a GSM timeout (and subsequently fails to load a
couple of other modules). This is currently my most critical problem as
it keeps me from using the FR as a phone... (Was the upgrade a bad idea
because it threw from testing to unstable?)

* I can set the time through paroli, but not the date.

* I'm not sure if it's just because I failed to install any extra
modules, but at first boot, I was asked to select a language from an
empty box. Are there any German l10n files/keyboard layouts, preferrably
opkg'ed?

* Docs: I've noticed the some docs on the wiki are rather outdated or at
least a bit confusing -- sometimes I just miss an explicit note saying
to what distro instructions apply. The same holds for some of the
software: although there are those tested on templates, they are
sometimes just blank. For example, I installed PISI for importing my
evolution contacts via a vcf file into paroli, only to find out that
PISI doesn't support paroli's contacts file format. Maybe this is
because opkg.org is being taking over the role of providing (up-to-date)
package descriptions? If so, I'd recommend moving any valid information
from wiki.openmoko.org over to opkg.

Also, the USB networking page should rather start with the easy part
(OS or Distro Specific Automatic Configuration) and list the more
manual configuration only later on. If there aren't any objections, I
might try to work on that.

* I think proper syncing is badly needed. I'm not sure if there are any
standards for this, but ideally, when connecting the FR to my Ubuntu
system (via USB, Bluetooth or whatever), I'd like to be asked if I want
to sync my FR contacts and/or calendar entries with Evolution. (If there
are any standards, it would be cool if the same approach would cause the
same for Windows or MacOS.) Also, providing GPS/GPRS/Wifi/...
functionality to the host system would be great.

* navit: It's good that it starts libgps automatically (as opposed to
older OM200x), but I find the libgps16/17 issue unacceptable. And
http://trac.navit-project.org/ticket/343 is just not satisfying.

As for me, I'm the casual Joe Hacker guy with some C++ experience, so if
there are any easy fixes (eg for the set date thing mentioned above) and
some guidance, I can try to help out a bit; same for translating.
