Re: Request for assistance: Need a wiki page for buying and selling GTA01
My GTA01 will be for sale soon, I know there is no official date for the GTA02 but if i can get an unofficial answer from an official source on if it looks good or bad for march, same for April. This will dictate when my Neo gets listed Michael Shiloh [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/19/08 6:42 PM Yes, that too. I agree that this would be a completely appropriate item to post to the community list. I'm suggesting the wiki page in addition, and I think having your eBay listing listed on the wiki suggests that you are a member of the community, and not some random outsider (although hard to imagine any of them having a Neo :-) Ortwin Regel wrote: Wiki pages are nice but they are not really a good way to push info to people as you would like to do if you have just put your phone on ebay for sale. The GSM 850 is the issue I am addressing Ortwin Regel [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/12/08 3:22 PM It sounds like Michael was talking about GSM in general. The area not covered by that indeed does seem negligible in the US. You have got a different issue. The best option you have is probably to sell your GTA01 and get a GTA02 that supports 850 Mhz when they become available. A 0.8x1.6 cell delivers 0.3 amps @0.55 VDC if you do the math, ~10 would be needed for the right voltage. Obviously some control is needed. I think he had the right intentions about this idea, however it would require vast CPU resources or a coprocessor dedicated to firware/driver layer managment. This is unlikley to happen, However trying to unlock the virtual lips of companies would be a huge step forward. Not to play devils advocate but if the firmware was loaded into RAM at boot a simple RAM dump would allow reverse engineering of the data, and thus the device,So im OK with that. This way we completely avoid the issue of distributing proprietary firmware updates and binary firmware updaters with restrictive licensing that load only cryptographically signed firmware. While I see the benefits here, it seems that we're sacrificing CPU time, power usage, and lowered utilization of other devices on the phone to get over a license issue -- a technical resolution to a legal problem. I have to agree here. This is a low powered (CPU) device that contains chips designed to perform specific tasks. Why on earth would anyone think that making the cpu handle those tasks be a good idea? Apple can manage to allow their users to update the baseband on the iPhone so why can't FIC on the neo? GTA02 Wiki update/ GTA02 ordering thought
I found this update on the GTA02 wiki and thought I would share it. GTA02v5 design finalized - DONE GTA02v5 small number produced for OpenMoko internal developer evaluation - Done (around 20) GTA02v5 thorough evaluation by OpenMoko internal developers - In progress Also, I think it would be prudent to put an Unofficial ordering page, to get a good idea of who within the community will be buying GTA02, maybe we can give FIC/OM a good idea of how many units will be needed. I,for one, will be buying a GTA02. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Sweet thanks. Mark Arvidson [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/01/08 11:23 AM I found the toolchain to be very easy to use. Unzip the .bz2 file, run 'source /usr/local/openmoko/arm/setup-env' and you are set. I keep my neo connected during development and ssh -X to it. That way, I can scp the built binary over and run the program on my desktop monitor but use the neo device processor and environment. If you are writing appd that should work on your gnome desktop (i.e. no gps or gsm), you can ./configure the Makefile for your local desktop during developme, then om-conf when you sre ready to test on the device. Re: Gizmo for Skype-like functionality in Neo?
My only concern is i am not aware of qt lib port to OM yet, If you know of one please let me know i would be interested for sure. Michael Schmidt [EMAIL PROTECTED] 01/30/08 12:21 PM yes, but it is not about serverless or any instant messenger, it is the only way, to have **secure** VOIPs. as well users do not need a telephone call, they can to the calls with VOIP over a data internet flat rate from the mobile phone. Voip is not in yet, and then it would be in with QT gui, no one wants to make a GTK gui as this is a lot of work, though for the small display a gui change is anyway needed, so maybe a Gtk would not be much work. Anyway, it is work and the project has no resources for OM. So other IMs and solutions will come, but they are not as safe as an asym, encrypted PGP line. So you need to ask for the goals, you want just IM or Just VOIP? then choose anything.. if you want secure VOIP, then go the way for an adjusted gui for the PGP-Messenger with soon Voip... and as it is not in, but the launch of OM is soon, ... if someone gets the flu, then use Qt still, as this might be quicker done... and Voip can be added later as an update... Re: GTA01 Modified Handset
The 64MB of NAND flash aka 'on board Flash 'is just for the Kernel and Root File system, although the Root FS could be loaded onto the MicroSD card; which is located under the SIM slot, i believe that up to 4GIG is available on MicroSD. The GTA01 ships with a 512MB card. so all in all you get 64MB + 512MB , at this time i assure you that 512MB is plenty for OpenMoko and Applications, if you wanted to utilize the device as a MP3 player I would suggest purchasing the biggest MicroSD card you can find. The 128MB of SDRAM is system memory, like your PC has.It is not used for 'Storage'. OM has done a great deal of work to keep their applications small, and they have done a good job at it. Lally Singh [EMAIL PROTECTED] 01/30/08 11:36 PM Oh, the 128 is onboard storage. What *is* the onboard CPU RAM on this thing? Is it just what's built onboard the CPU?
