Yes thanks but, if i'm right, gstreamer support for mp3 is disabled
within SHR (due to licence problem..).

Is it right?

It doesn't out of the box, but you can always build the packages

Re: Re: SHR Unstable

2009-01-26 Thread Giorgio Marciano
The new SHR unstable is really great and a lot of steps forward are
done!

I tested it for a couple days and i want to share the problems i found
and my suggestions.

Problems:

- if i set an alarm, the phone doesn't ring, i can't hear nothing.
- the phone doesn't show the missed calls. It should be nice to have an
icon on the wrench that alert me of new missed calls!
- Sms messages are still splitted into several messages. If i try to
receive a long sms (more than 3 messages) i receive just the two initial
parts.
- i lost all my messages in a unknown way.
- power button -- suspend button doesn't work
- cant get a gps fix in up to 12 minutes.

Improvements:
- add a way to find a contact in a more speedy way (e.g. by selecting the
first letter)
- in Settings -- Services should be shown the status of the service. Add
a restart button too.
- wrench -- Look -- Wallpaper is too large for the screen, should fill
it.
- increase default call volume
- settings is really slow
- suspend mode disable button

Apart from the above problems, is quite the best shr image ever!!

About the dictionnary problem, this is due to the fix to handle UTF8.
I'm told someone on the e17 side is working on correcting this bug.

  Hi,

  Here's a keyboard layout that I've created.

The idea is to have a finger friendly keyboard good for normal text
as well as terminal input. It needs some polish, but I'm sure you'll
have cool ideas how to make it better, so I'm releasing now.

  Features:
  - doesn't use the dictionary (I've found the dict too slow for now,
  at least on SHR unstable)
  - not using the dictionary, it can utilize the top part of the
  keyboard app (see screenshots)
  - Fn key that switches between qwerty and a layout with some special
  characters, arrows and numbers
  - Enter and backspace keys (so no finger sliding needed)
  - Some keys are very thin and are on the edges of the screen. You use
them by pressing the GTA's case near the screen (I take no
responsibility if doing that damages your phone).
  - No capslock.
  - The very thin key on the left is tab, the very thin one on the
  right is Enter.
  - There is an up and down arrow to use for command line history.
  - You can switch to another layout by sliding your finger up on the
keyboard (the keyboard selection button is covered by the keys).

  Screenshots:
  http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/~makbet/keyboard1.png
  http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/~makbet/keyboard2.png

  The layout file:
  http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/~makbet/Keyboard-ng.kbd

I've only tested this on SHR unstable.

  Have fun!

   Hi all!
First of all, greetings for bring us OM 2008.12, it's probably one
  of
the most great releases of OM
(the boot in particular is rally cool!).

Now, I flashed it yesterday, as follows:

dfu-util -a kernel -R -D Om2008.12-om-gta02.uImage.bin
dfu-util -a rootfs -R -D Om2008.12-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2
dfu-util -a u-boot -R -D gta02v5_and_up-u-boot.bin

And all it's ok. GSM works, SMS also, GPS, ssh and internet
  (through
USB) out of the box, etc etc.
I installed illume theme as follows:

/etc/init.d/xserver-nodm stop
vi /etc/enlightment/default-profile
Change it in -profile illume
shutdown now

And after changing Illume configs for Engine from SOFTWARE_16
  to
   SOFTWARE it works very fine.

   BUT

Sometimes, it appears almost randomly, OM 2008.12 freezes.
It's a total blocking of the system, nothing works through
  touchscreen
or ssh, and I'm forced to reboot.
It could be while I'm using TangoGPS or while I'm pressing the
  answering
button, when I talk or when I close a call.

What do you think about this?

I'll test OM 2008.12 for one or two days but, if this will
  continue, I
will flash in SHR, in the hope
it will increase the usability of the phone... but, it is a pity,
  OM
2008.12 with illume is really cool ;)

Re: No dropbear in om2008.12 ?

2008-12-22 Thread Giorgio Marciano
I'm using OM2008.12 with no problems: networking and SSH works well.

I had some problems the first time to install the terminal! Why they
don't include terminal by default?!

However, connecting the neo to pc through USB cable works for me. I gave
the following command:

sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.0

and then

ssh r...@192.168.0.202 and it's worked for me.

I've noticed that if you are connected to a network that has different
addresses (your IP different from 192.168.0.*) the connection could not
work. So try to disconnect from the network (sudo ifconfig ethX down),
connect the neo to USB, wait a few seconds, type again the above command
and try again with ssh.

It worked for me. Hope this can help you.

  Hi,

Two months ago I bought the FR and installed the om2008.8 version
without too much worry. This last week-end, after reading this list,
  I
decided to flash the om2008.12 version. So I downloaded the kernel
  and
  the rootfs from here
  http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Om2008.12/
and then flashed it, no problem.

Then I rebooted and pluged in the usb cable and tried to connect, no
success. I can ping 192.168.0.202 but not connect via ssh. I then
  tried to nmap
the FR and the result was all ports filtered.

After reading the differents lists and forums, it seems that one must
reboot a second time after flashing in order to get networking
  running,
which i did, but still no sucess.

Then I figured I should maybe activate dropbear from within the FR
  but
big surprise, there is no terminal!

I finally decided to flash with the om2008.9 version, hoping that
  these
problems would vanish but no, still same problem.

Now I don't know what to do more.

  Any ideas ?

  Thanks,
  Steve
