keycaps or keymats - but we have to stock and provide several different

Layout could be changed via software.
What is actually printed on keys, does not matter much, it is changable on

Or just don't print it, a la

For me, it's the tactile feedback of a hardware keyboard I like--and I
don't mean making the phone vibrate or the whole screen's clicking
down or the phone's making a click sound when I hit a key, but being
able to clearly /feel/ the edges of the keys so I know what key I'm
hitting before I hit it and even when my finger is covering the keys.
No idea if you could simulate it well enough with something like
Senseg's (electro-static) haptics technology ( http://senseg.com/ +
http://senseg.com/technology/senseg-technology ), but I have my doubts,
and I'm sure patents and licensing costs make that a no-go, anyway.

 I agree.

 On http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_FreeRunner everyone can read:

The FreeRunner can be purchased from the Online Store
http://www.openmoko.com as of July 3, 2008. The software available on
the phone makes it suitable for power users and developers only -- it is
not yet ready for the general consumer.

So whining that it is not ready for the regular user is kind of sad.
There is a difference between a regular and a power user, and that is
not only the letters it takes to write the words.

Yeah, now we just have to figure out a way to let all those regular
users who are under the incorrect assumption that they must be power
users because they once downloaded/installed a insert GNU/Linux distro
here ISO that they are in fact not power users... (Or, worse yet,
someone who has been a Windows sys admin for 10 years...)

Unfortunately, those who don't have the experience to decide whether
they actually want a FreeRunner without that text are probably most
likely to incorrectly assume they must be power users.

Mike (who hopes to be a good beginner of a power user in 30 years, but
who actually did/does want his FreeRunner)

OK. I'm finally at home again (I've been traveling for work) and got a
chance to play around to test it. It turns out it wasn't my router
configuration, it was my browser configuration.

The payment site is verifying the Referer header and my browser was not
sending that header. The off-network computer I tried was configured to
send the Referer, so it worked on that one. I could have sworn I had
tested that when I was trying to buy initially (as many websites are
broken^H^H^H^H^H^Hconfigured to require a specific Referer value, so I
usually remember to check).

/me wonders if he should mention the futility of using /any/
client-side-generated data for security purposes... I guess, though,
that's not Openmoko's problem, but Hi Trust's.

Seems this one has something to do with my NAT'ing firewall/router.
When I tried from a computer with a direct connection to the Internet,
it went through without a problem. I tried all combinations of Firefox
2, Internet Explorer, and Firefox 3 and the only difference in the
systems was the network connection (and the fact that the one that
worked--with the direct connection--was running Windows, but I'm pretty
sure that's not the issue).

As I really wanted to get the phone, I didn't mess around with NAT
settings to see exactly what was causing the issue, but I'm happy to do
further testing.

I really hope their web site recognizes that internal networks exist, too...

Citibank did this too. So Gateway Error 500 is Hi Trust's way

I think 500 is probably a generic HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error), as

Though--assuming I can get to the Hi Trust server eventually--I'll keep
an eye out for a 500 indicated the credit card was rejected, too. :)

My favorite line, As an industry, we plan to use open-source
technologies but we are not yet ready to play by the rules; but this
needs to work the other way round too.

What exactly does he mean by that? It sounds like he's saying that the
industry is going to ignore the rules of open source and wants open
source developers to ignore the rules of the industry? Though I'll
admit that interpretation is a complete contradiction of everything else
in the article, I can't come up with another interpretation. I'm
guessing it's a bad quotation in the article or he just happened to
choose the wrong words to convey his message.

Well, ATT says that the new subsidy will cost them $600M. So, I assume

Have you looked at TagLib?

The OpenMoko project, as it appears to others, is a failure of the open

I've been expecting the opportunity to buy a Neo for over six months
