One Freerunner was fixed, but the mic was busted. Luckily it was a test unit used for test by Eshopen. Another point is that the fix was tried with a traditional solder, not with a microscope soldier, so we think that this was the cause. I suggest who want to try the fix to take a lot of care, and to search for an specialist center. I think, if there will be an open development, I would be better if there will be a "meritocracy" vote. Example: if there is to discuss about "use glamo chip" or not, I think is not a good idea to have all the community speaking about the xglamo, where 95% of the person speaking neither know the low level implication to use a chip in place of another (and it is normal, because not all people have this kind of knoledge). I am one of these idiots. What according me missed in openmoko was a community. Or better: there are a lot of person in OpenMoko community. What we missed was a lead. What we missed was an official voice from Openmoko. Often I took you email as official announcement of OM, as official face. But you are not a "community manager" but only a "maketing manager". A community can't be democratic. Big projects as Linux, Ubuntu, Gnome, etc. have a community that is formed by person that don't stay all in the same level: there are leaders / there are developers / there are maintainers. And between them there is a knowledge and respect because they worked to get their position. This bring people to be serious and to work collaborative. Without this there are only people telling only: "The GSM module suck / The Wifi module suck / All OM suck". Only with this a collaborative project can born, and to have success. In this case FIC have only to put the money when the project will be ready. And remember that a open project may not be democratic. Usually the best one are never democratic. Someone here a long time wrote here: Ubuntu community was not an casual thing. It was by design. I would like to add: OpenMoko need something like this. These are my 2 cents. Sephora 0.2.2 available
Hello New version of Sephora. Now it is again compatible with fso milestone 5. Improvements: * Moved to lyb-pyfso-gobject library * Update to fso-framework milestone 5 * Added new indicators to power section * Modified phone section Now it require the package: lib-pyfso-gobject Warning: For pin sim locked user, there will be as short is possible a new version that will support the SIM pin. Question: Would you like to have the possibility to have sephora remembering the pin? Do you want it encrypted (It will be in every case a low encryption)? Question: Sephora need the root priviledge. I would like to know how to get it to have the root priviledges. I was thinking gtksu, but when there is gtk su active, there is no possibility to use the onscreen keyboard. Hello, I worked and I cleaned (a lot the code) and I try to find a compromise that can do all happy. First of all, I gave the possibility to choose which convention to use, when coding. There is a 'python' style, where all the name of methods/property are in_this_format() and a fso style where all the methods are exact of are defined on FsoDBus. I created a shell too, that permit to explore the framework (like mdbus) called pydbus. (start with ./pydbus -h to see what you can do) And I added a test.py that show how to use. It turn on the Warning: because to try signals is not easy (I will see if it will be running only when it will be integrated on sephora... and I will need some time...) I can't give any warranty about the connect method is running (I hope only yes, but I didn't try, if you are lucky yes). Fso Python binding
Hello to all I am writing here to show something I was working today, and I'd like to know your opinions. I try to explain with a few of words. How someone of you know, I wrote Sephora. In lastest day I lost some time to trying to fix sephora with the new fso milestone. Where I was working I realized that I hate dbus :) Ok, I know it is very important, it is cross language compatibile, but I program in python, and I don't like to write too much code. If I want to turn on a led I want to do something like: device = ODeviced() device.getLED().getGta02AuxRed().setBlinking(2, 3) Or if I want to react to a function I want to do something like this: gps = OGpsd() def myfunc(i): # I do something here gps.connect('fixStatusChanged', myfunc) So, I studied a bit how to use reflection in Python and the source code written by Michael Lauer, and I wrote a Python binding for FSO, and I called with a lot of fantasy PyFso (It is only a transitory name, because I think this name is already used for another project). You can have a look here: [1] To help the navigation, it also print the structure of the object I created [2]. For now it is only a proof of concept. I would like to know if someone else have the same feeling with dbus. MyPaint 0.6
Hello to all First of allI want to say thank you to Martin Renold, that has created a very good program to extract the artist inside us :) His program, is called MyPaint, and when I saw it, I thinked direct to Openmoko Freerunner. I found on GetDeb the package for architecture i386 and amd64, prepared by Joao Pinto. I took the .dsc and the tar file, and I compiled with a debuild. The package compiled perfectly on FR whitout any changes, and in a few of minutes I had my .deb for armel4. They did a perfect job :) I tried the application on FR and this was the result: [1] http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/2009-02-01-050308_480x640_scrot.png [2] http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/2000-02-01-051141_480x640_scrot.png It run pretty well. It is fast enough (in Debian & XFCE). If would be nice if someone would make a opkg package. The only problem was the sensitivity of the touchscreen. It happen that when a person put the pen UP the screen continue to think that it is still down. I think it can be fixed by software, but I am not so sure! If you want to try it but you don't want to compile with debuild, here there is the precompiled package: [deb]: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/mypaint_0.6.0-0%7Egetdeb1_armel.deb [tar.gz]: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/mypaint_0.6.0.orig.tar.gz [diff.gz]: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/mypaint_0.6.0-0%7Egetdeb1.diff.gz [dsc]: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/562269/MyPaint/mypaint_0.6.0-0%7Egetdeb1.dsc Best regards Michele Renda Ps. I use deb...@fr updatet until today, with fso-frameworkd_0.8.4.3-20081215 Let suppose I am starting with a just started system: To be able to use the GSM subsystem I have to enable GSM: how to do it? 1) mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/GSM/Device Enable FIRST PROBLEM: If I call 2 times this, the frameworkd stop to run... or better, if I try to make another GSM call (for example: "mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/GSM/Device GetStatus" the answer is org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply I think it would be better to have the possibility to call n times the Enable function. SECOND PROBLEM: How I can check is a section is enabled? It woulrd be nice to have a function like: mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/GSM/Device GetAbilitation GSM to know if it is enabled or not. THIRD PROBLEM: I thought that I have to use the functions shown with: mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/Usage The problem is that if I call: mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/Usage RequestResource GSM it seem to do nothing, because if I call: mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.frameworkd /org/freesmartphone/Usage GetResourceState GSM the result is: /org/freesmartphone/Usage: GetResourceState -> 0 Thank you all Michele Renda ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: How do you like to read a phone number?
Hello, thank you for your complete email! My idea in about these points: a) Who now has a freerunner is someone that is a bit an advanced user. And I think a lot of people don't like all these ambiguities on phone number. I think a phone number must to be as unique is possible (in must not be different if I have to be called from a person that live near to me or from my uncle that live in Japan). So I'd like to force (ok... not really forced, but encourage) people to dial the number with international prefix. (but with some ticks to don't press too much buttons) b) Internally all the number are registered on this format, that I think is the most correct: +XX, then every phone number is rended according some rules very easy with spaces, dash, etc. c) Because I think it can interest someone else, if I have success to manage it, I would like to separate the "Parse logic" from the main program logic. In this way it could be used by other programs (If someone is interested can contact to me). It is for now a Python class. d) I'd like to avoid to use a specific class for every coutry. For now (until I will not find some very big problems) I would like to have a simple big text file with all the configuration. I did for Italy and seem to be pretty fast. e) In every moment everyone can remove this formatting funcion and to fall back on +XX format. f) I'd like to don't add only formatting information, but also some other info as country, town, type (fix/mobile) and whatever you want. How do you like to read a phone number?
Hello to all I would like to know how do you like to read the phone number: I try to explain: when we read a phone number we usually like to separe it with some spaces or signs: for example in Italy when someone give me a mobile phone number I usually write: +39 347 123456 Or if it is a fixed number: +39 02 123456 or +39 011 123456 But I know in USA is more common something like: +1-212-123456 Please, who has some time, can you please write your country (Italy, France, etc.) and the way how usually is normal to read a phone number in your country (with international prefix) The format I use to descrive is this: +39 ### * or +1-###-* (where # replace a char, and * replace all remaining chars) Thank you a lot for your time Michele Renda ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: [Debian] apt-get upgrade made the FR die...
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 It happent to me too, some months ago. It is possible to solve the problem in different ways, you can try to boot with a "non debian" image, download the install.sh script, and do only the stages: mount, kernel (in this way it reinstall only the kernel) I don't know if it can solve your problem, but can be a good points to start. Re: The forbidden topic: Glamo OpenGL
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Thank you for your answer. I bought GTA02 and I am really happy of this buy. I hope to buy the next major revision! I am not still using it as my daily phone (to say the true I hate phones), but I using my free time to develop it. About the lesson, I think it was very important to learn it. To accept closed HW pays a lot in short term, but the true values is something different! Please keep up this great work! Michele Renda PS. Some hints on future OpenGL chips can arrive inside the next GTAXX versions? :) -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkkdfVUACgkQSIAU/I6SkT1SqgCbBDzzNcUjB86NhyW9tEvC6wEh yz8AnR1JiDaauT1yQ8i8J+GfFk03DXQk =ZDDn -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

No, because GPS run calculation triangulation from the signal coming from 3 different points. It the signals arrive from the same point, it will be impossible to obtain your position, because the signal itself doesn't contains any position info. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I'd like to public thanks Hubert Haas, who worked a lot to translate all Sephora in German language. He did a very good job! Other minor changes are: Fixed GPS time sync button, added a hide screen section button, to solve Davide's Zhone issue. Propouse: I added a proxy configuration setting. Who think it can be usefull? It will be better to move them into a new tab? (i.e. Internet) Like usually you will find the new version here: https://launchpad.net/sephora/+download Enjoy it ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
