What would be great is if we have a TV out and an HDMI out from the phone
with two USB sockets so that it can also be used as a generic computer.

Re: Discussion: what are your dreams for the Openmoko Community

2012-05-01 Thread RANJAN
Hi,

I would like to think about it from the perspective of designing a new
device. Let us say the device is more like a wearable wrist computer with a
Flexible OLED or Eink screen. It can have an additional wireless
computational unit that fits in the users pocket.

Immediately ahead on a short term I think the next big product by openmoko
could be either an open source table with enough RAM and GPU that graphic
UI handling is good and the next would be a smart programmable watch
computer. I especially think that the watch computer should cell like hot
cake..

Another idea is to have windows 7 capable hardware.

Cant get gpsd to work

2012-01-09 Thread RANJAN
Hi,

I am not able to get GPSD to work. I did this:

echo "GPS_DEV=\"/dev/ttySAC1\"" > /etc/default/gpsd
/etc/init.d/gpsd restart

but when I do /etc/init.d/gpsd it says not found. I can see the gpsd file
in /etc/default folder but no use. Is there a script to get GPS position
say lat and long on FR? Please let me know.

The idea of making the MOKO tab

2011-11-09 Thread RANJAN
Hello All,

Just got an Idea. I think we can make a Moko Tab (an open source tablet
phone/PC) from the existing opensource hardware and the ones related to
GSM,Wifi,bluetooth from OpenMoko FR.

Take a look at the parts that you can find.

The rest of the hardware can be taken from the previous moko. I think the
idea of the first truly open source tablet PC should be realized.

Dear Timo,

This is what I wrote from you code:

1)Sets NMEA OFF and only UBX on
2)Enable-raw
3)raw-rate-monitor

*import struct
import calendar
import os
import gobject
import logging
import sys
import socket
import time

loop = gobject.MainLoop()

def callback(ty, packet):
print("callback %s" % repr([ty, packet]))
# setting NMEA OFF AND ONLY UBX
if ty == "CFG-PRT":
packet[1]["In_proto_mask"] = 1
packet[1]["Out_proto_mask"] = 1
t.send("CFG-PRT", 20, packet)
elif ty == "ACK-ACK":
loop.quit()
return True

#raw rate monitor
def callback(ty, *args):
global prev_t
if ty == "RXM-RAW":
t = time.time()
d = t - prev_t
print("%f %f" % (d, 1.0/d))
prev_t = t

assert len(sys.argv) == 2
t = ubx.Parser(callback)
t.send("CFG-PRT", 0, [])

#enabling raw
t = ubx.Parser(callback)
t.send("UPD-DOWNL", 8 + 1, {"StartAddr" : 0x6c14, "Flags" : 0, "B0" : 255})
loop.run()*

Please advice.

the GPS detachable and make the revision more modular like Clip on PCB

would make it more reconfigurable and open source/ DIY.

Re: [GTA04] When is the next and more powerful openmoko releasing

2010-10-22 Thread RANJAN
Hello,

Recommendations for better hardware on Openmoko.

1)A 600 Mhz processor is minimally required to run the OS at usable
speeds.An 800 Mhz processor would be good across all OSes.A 1Ghz processor
would be too costly
2)Please use ADXL335 accelerometer whose sensor output is better, less
noisy, smooth transition and will be better to develop applications.Also
please provide a direct access to ADC read from the processor and not a text
file dump and then read method.
3)A tilt compensation 1 axis or 3 axis magnetometer would be good.

With a better processor speed there is no turning back for Openmoko.

Hi,

What are the accelerometers used in the FR (company and model number)?I
think it might be Freescale's MMA7260.If it is it has selectable
sensitivities in the range of +/- 1.5 g to 6 g what has been selected in the
free runner.What I observed is that the Free runner is able to detect shocks
as in if a person is running it will work well to detect such shocks.Also if
one has to use it to shuffle songs it will work well.

Please let me know.

Free runner doesnot power up

I have not been using my free runner for about a week.I tried to turn it on
by pressing the power button but it does not.I have plugged in the Charger
and pressed the power button but still it does not turn on .I even tried NOR
boot with Aux and power button but still it does not turn on.Is it that the
device is dead or the battery just need to be charged for some hours before
I can use it again?

Please let me know.(It is chaos for me right now).
