I know it's been a while since anyone last wrote, but I just thought I
would try it on SHR-testing (20080303).
When it starts up, it rotates the screen, flashes a couple of times
then returns to the window. The bash script is doing it's job, but
the exectuble is returning with a:
Warning: Audio could not be setup for 22050 Hz 16-bit stereo
Reason:

There's no reason for running the application. Would you be able to
debug this. I'd really like to check this out. I would try it
myself, but I am using my phone for daily use now so I want to stay
away from it right now.

Thanks

It does seem like a carrier issue. Anytime that phone is requesting
service or a wakeup (AT+CMGL=2, it receives CMS ERROR 313. Now
I'm not an expert in these kinds of situations, but if someone else
might have an idea about this.
It might also be wise to check with your carrier and see if there is
an issue with your SIM card and/or if you can request to have it

Personally, I can't wait for GTA03 to come out. Any design aspects

Re: Importing Contacts from Thunderbird

Hey guys,
I suppose a little update. I've recently switched to SHR-Testing and
a little while on SHR-Unstable. Currently there is no import
functionality, but thanks to Aleš Horák, he's created some scripts
called the DBus Access Scripts for handling the SIM phonebooks.
For those wishing to use these scripts and are needing to convert your
VCF 3.0 files from Thunderbird or otherwise to VCF 2.1, please run the
following:

sed -r -e 's/;TYPE=([^,]+),[^:]+;/;\1:/g' old.vcf new.vcf
sed -r -e 's/VERSION:3.0/VERSION:2.1/g' new.vcf new.vcf

On the FR, run:
./ImportContacts new.vcf

If the contacts.sh file is created and filled but doesn't import, then
you will need to check for the following in the contacts.sh file:
- Windows EOL character (^M) at the end of the name and number field
- An apostrophe or quote in the name (' or )

Re: Free email to SMS

2009-03-05 Thread Will Siddall
Hey Pander,
This is a great tool but it does have it's limitations. Most of the
time, you have to be aware of what you attach to your emails and how
many characters you use. Just the sheer fact that you can send emails
to an SMS receiver is still great though.
One down fall is the SMS receiver's carrier. Some carriers are
starting to restrict use of the email-to-SMS conversion (to some
degree) a paid service. I live in Canada and the only GSM provider in
the area is Rogers. They've completely locked out this service to a
degree that if you receive an SMS from email, the receiver is notified
that a message has arrived and will have to agree to pay a fee to
receive it.

Unless someone has found ways around this matter, I would look into it
a bit more before you start sending off massive amounts of joke mail
to all of your phone pals.

Re: Importing Contacts from Thunderbird

2008-12-21 Thread Will Siddall
Can you tell me what you found out about the format? It also does not
 import contacts from jpilot.

What I noticed is that in most contact lines, the format would be:

TEL;TYPE=CELL,VOICE:5551234567

the sed line pretty much changes the line to:

TEL;CELL;VOICE:5551234567

Now, I'm no expert on the VCard format, but this a big difference
between the formats that did work and what I had that didn't. So, I
applied this line to a VCard that had about 100 contacts and
everything went in afterwards (after taking out multiple line notes)

Re: how to turn on screen blanking on 2008.12

2008-12-20 Thread Will Siddall
If you would rather switch to the illume theme (you would have to
update from testing), this will give you access to the illume 'wrench'
that can allow you to set the time after which the screen blanks and
then another time (or none) to have it go into suspend.

If you don't want to use testing, you can just install 'illume-config'
which will give you the wrench

The 'wrench' is found in the top shelf when you drop it down. It'll
be in the top-left corner.

Importing Contacts from Thunderbird

Hey,
I know there's a wiki item for this, but I just have to send it to
everyone. I want to edit the wiki, but I don't know if anyone has run
into this problem yet.

The wiki shows to install a VCF plugin for thunderbird then just
import the VCF into your contacts app. I had a lot of problems with
this and actually found that the format of the VCF file doesn't match
what 'addressbook' is looking for.

Instead, here are the steps I found to work and if anyone can confirm
this, I will add it to the wiki.

1: Export your addressbook/contacts to VCF file(s)
2: From your terminal, run:
sed -r -e 's/;TYPE=([^,]+),([^:]+):/;\1;\2:/g' old.vcf new.vcf
3: From your OpenMoko, run:

not feasible. In my situation, it's something that I can't argue

Unless I know that an FR coming out will have 3G, I'll have to buy a

other thing is seeing the North American market bash with the rest of

Re: qwerty keyboard

One thing you my consider would be try install the
'illume-keyboards-terminal' (found here:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Keyboard_Debate#How_to_install_the_illume_.28Raster.27s.29_keyboard_.3F).
If you install the 'illume-config-illume' package, you will also be
able to choose your default keyboard as well.

This is what I've been using a lot and it comes with three keyboards
you can flip between. An 'intelli-type' keyboard (which is alright
for SMS') and a matching numbers/symbols keyboard and then a terminal
keyboard which is a tiny keyboard to be typing any kind of terminal
commands with, but it's still useful.

Until we can get any significant change in using the accelerometers to
automatically rotate the interface and give us a bigger keyboard, this
is what's available.

been for at least the last 4 years and the team (mostly led by Carsten

people think that development is taking a long time, which is not the
case... it has been prompt and steady. They are taking care that
everything is designed properly and no major issues are left before
releasing it.

It has been a few years since I started using it and even though they
haven't officially released 0.17, the betas are ever more stable than
most desktops I have used, including the EFL framework which is by far
the most dynamic, flexible and quickest (and most graphically

anticipating the new changes that will come up in the next few months.

Keep up the great work everyone...
