Re: Possible to add "OpenMoko" to the email title
David Shanks wrote: Hi All, New to the list and excited about the possibility of a open phone. Still new so i'm mainly lurking for now. I suppose this is directed to the list moderators/admins. I was wondering if there is a way to have "openmoko" or some list descriptor like "community" added in front of the subject of the emails sent out by the list. It would make sorting my emails much simpler, as right now i'm forced to sort my mailbox by hand daily. David p.s. I'm not really a developer, but would be interested in learning about how to develop apps or other modules for openmoko. I did take some programming classes in uni (mainly C++), but I find that if I can get a handle of syntax, i can figure out the way programs work. Anyways, anyone have a recommendation where to start (learn)? David, I suggest filtering your email by sender address rather than subject line. That's what I do. If Hotmail doesn't support this feature, you should consider using a proper email client. Re: I broke my (non-NEO!) phone :-(
Christ van Willegen wrote: Hi, today is a day of mixed feelings... I've been using a Sony-Ericsson S700i phone for 2 years now, and it's been quite usable to me. But I smashed the display today when it fell out of the pouch it was sitting in. It probably still works, but the screen is unusable. Since I've heard about OpenMoko and the Neo1973, I've been following progress. Since my 2-year contract with the phone company can be broken now, I've been wanting to replace my phone. But, preferably for a GTA-02, since it has Wifi and that appeals to me a lot. I've not been developing for OpenMoko, but I've been in software since 1995. I might be able to do something there... I was 'hoping' to hold off buying a Neo GTA-02 until they were quite mature (almost ready for mass market), but since I'm phone-less now (I'll be able to borrow my father's old phone, some Philips with a horrible interface) I would like to buy one soonish... So, the question boils down to: When would I, approximately, be able to buy a GTA-02 phone, and would it bother people if I wouldn't develop for it, but 'just' use it as a phone? Christ van Willegen Christ, From what I've read, the projected release is October, but likely later. I'm waiting for the end-user release as well, making due with an old Motorola. If we're patient, I think we'll have a truly unique, totally geeky phone. Dave ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Convince me NOT to cancel my order.
There appear to be some disgruntled "developers" out there with the Neo1973 GTA01 "sitting on the shelf". Please consider selling your development handset on eBay or similar so other, more active developers, without hardware can get one. Just my $0.02, Dave [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Why am I not being given the choice to RIGHT NOW to be placed at the FRONT of the GTA02 sales queue? Why dont I have a billion dollars? I really want it and I could really use it... Why am I putting up with all this frustration reading about others who -have- their phones and why should I not just cancel my order?? Seriously, with your already pissed off tone, I would never get this phone. I have one, and now wish I didnt get it. I am not looking for my money back or anything like that, I knew I could be buying a brick and was willing to take that risk.. But the fact is I just dont use it. I would think very early on the focus would be to reliably make and receive calls, which this phone cannot do. If I could use this to simply make and receive calls, I would have it with me and thus be more willing to write stuff for it while I have some down time at work. As it stands now it sits at home. I will have no interest in it until I can make and receive calls. Not make a few calls, then reboot, then receive a call, then reboot, etc... Thats just my opinion tho, so all the linux nuts out there please dont jump down my throat. The only reason I am writing this is so the guy asking the questions will get another point of view.. Dont get me wrong, this phone has tons of potential, but I think others may be in the same situation as me.. And after a few months of it sitting on the shelf, I will forget its there and move onto something else... That is of course if we dont get a reliable dialer in the near future.. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
