[Raster+FSO] Some issues
Hello. I have recently installed the new Raster's image, and I was surprised of how beautiful it is, and how well 3D effects work. I want to congratulate rasterman for his work. I decided to give FSO a try, so I installed frameworkd and zhone. Unfortunately, I also have a lot of issues with it (making the phone unusable). I'll try to enumerate: 1 Sound doesn't work well. This is being covered in other mails, so I won't extend here. After installing oss packages, some applications managed to get sound working, but not the calls or ringtones. 2 Sometimes, the illume controls just dissapear, and I can only access to zhone. You can still see a tiny (one pixel height, I think) noisy band up, but can't do anything with it. Restarting X doesn't work, neither rebooting the phone. The only solution I have found is to delete .e/e directory, but I lose all the configuration (and doesn't last for long). 3 Wifi gadget doesn't work at all. 4 I can't set a wallpaper. When you select a image, e says you that the wallpaper can't be set because of a conversion error, and then, that file .e/e/fileman/favorites (or something similar) can't be found. I'm very sorry for not giving you the exact error, but I can't test it right now as I have no illume controls (view 2). 5 Wake up doesn't work. Anytime the phone suspend, I have to turn it off and on again. It seems to poweroff well, so I think the problem is with the screen which doesn't turn on. Only once, I have met the infamous WSOD (first time since I have the phone). 6 The alarm doesn't power on the phone, so I'm arriving late at work. 7 Some application launchers don't appear in the Home menu. At least, the one of the "Battle for Wesnoth" package, that used to appear on 2008.X . I think that's all by now. I hope this report help finding bugs. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: distro nightmares ... can fdom help?
Well, you chose the hard way. The easy one was buying a Nokia or even an iPhone. But you wanted a free phone and this is what you get. I think you find the hard way much harder that you thought. So do I, but I can stand with it. I use the phone daily, and I also have had to deal with distro nightmare, with echo problems, gps problems, SD card problems, volume and usage problems,... But the software evolves quite quickly, and the community is enthusiastic and helps a lot. I definitely wouldn't buy a Freerunner for, say, my sister. At least, today. But seeing how it is evolving and growing I hope that, with my help (bug reports, ideas, explanations,...) and those of the community, someday I could. Don't desperate. [Om2008.08] Desktop drawer submenu subdirectory
Hi everybody. I have installed openmoko-games and I enjoy some of them very much. But now my desktop have too much icons to be practical. It would be useful to have subdirectories on the main menu. So if I want to play a game, I go to games and then there are all the games. I have tried (and failed) the following aproachs: 1- Make a directory in /usr/share/applications and copy the .desktop files inside. Result: the subdirectory doesn't appear, but the launchers inside do. 2- Make a directory launcher in the same place, and put the .desktop files inside the directory pointed. Result: the directory launch does not appear. Any idea? ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Om2008.08: shy illume's keyboard
I had installed the 08/30 image. Today I have updated from repositories the phone (community and zecke's repo). Later, I added amgstrong repository and installed pidgin. What I find now is that the illume keyboard doesn't show. I can only see the dictionary button. I can't write with it. What is worst. I have tried to reinstall illume-config-illume, but the package is missing, I don't know where it is reubicated. Now, the only option I have is to reenable qtopia keyboard :( Any help? ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

But if you let the screen alone, the phone won't suspend and you can work with the phone (ie: via ssh). ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Openmoko Om 2008.8 Release
How could you make distinction about that? Should the client check a box for saying they are enthusiast? I think that, since it seems that Qtopia has some problems too, the FR should come with their branded software, the one that is intended to be used in the future. The product is not readied for normal consumer, and I think that normal consumer are not buying it anyway. IMHO, of course.
