one to rule them all

2009-10-28 Thread flecktor

hi everyone

every time i want to change a distro its a movie for me.

i need to find the web sources, then decide which version to use, download
it,flash it and if its on sd its a harder story for me.

so, my point is, if anyone care enough and wants an idea, to make a software
the centers everything, and gives you a list of all distros , and download them
, and maybe even connect it to neotool for flashing, or maybe to gparted to do
the sd formating automaticaly.

its a lot of work, however it will make the everyday use of openmoko MUCH MUCH
EASIER!

what do you say?

2009-10-28 Thread flecktor

you remind me an argument with a programmer i had,

he claimed that all testing should be manual, while i claimed, if you invest at
the first step 3 time as much; all the way from now you can have the testing
for use faster and easier for everyone not just you , who thought of the test.

well the answer was that the test should be done manualy since that way , you
learn much more about the system, then after you write the code one.

you and him are right, however what would you rather do? pick the trail after
broken images , sniff the world for the right distro for each distro takes
hours to setup, or do the switches swiftly?

please don't rationalize your answer since you did it before , that means its a
tradition that needs to keep on going.

i got one last question.

how many mails have you got here in the list that people say:i am selling my
openmoko since i don't have the time to set it up.?

a lot of people give up on this small child games, that a computer can do and
should do.

if the moko wants to go anywere in needs to be more automatic to my opinion,
even if the holder of this opinion is an hotmail user.

Hi,

I was able to disable/re-enable wifi with
following lines, I did however not have the time to check the impact on
battery life

# using Atheros wmiconfig command to disable wlan

./wmiconfig -i eth0 --wlan disable

# To re-enable wlan:

./wmiconfig -i eth0 --wlan enable

# set re-association mode 0 : do send disassoc when reassociation

./wmiconfig -i eth0 --setreassocmode 0

# now try to reconnect wlan using gui

iwlist eth0 scan

Cheers,

 Filip.

ill test it

hello list,

is there a way for the mail to be populated in more order way? its hard to keep
track of all the mails, one could not find in o(1) the subject names , or cut
throw the data easily to understand and get partial grasp of the messages sent.

thanks

FW: wifi mp3 and qwerty?

2009-03-27 Thread flecktor

hello people,

i just bought my new openmoko, and for two weeks im trying to install things on
it.
i need some pointers if you could please provide me with:

1)a few days ago i flashed the moko with om 2008.12

i dont know how to find out what version is now installed.

2)
after the flash the option of wifi was removed from the setting
section, now i cannot connect to wifi, anyrecommanded wifi package? or
how do i restore the wifi to the setting menu.

3) after the
installtion of mediaplayer1 i copyied files, and when trying to run the
files i recive 3 popup error messages saying:
a. gstreamer error:
interna data flow error.

b.gstream error:
you do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to
install the necessar y plugins

c.gstreamer error:
A MPEG-1 Layer 3
(MP#) decoder plugin
is required to play
this stream. but not
installed.

now i found an old mail some one saying they had a simelar problem at :
http://lists.openmoko.org/nabble.html#nabble-td2171492

tried all the pagackes listed there (gst-plugin* ,libmad0*)

none worked and i think i overloaded the packages (more then one package per
pluging was installed).

4) could you please point out how to make a small qwerty icon to make the
qwerty keyboad pop-up?

thank you in advance,
