expanding openmoko's memory

2010-01-03 Thread ik
Hello List,

I've went over the design circuits of om. It seems that there is a memory
bus that is not in use for the SDRAM.
Does a kernel module that will pass the proper bit to a flag can expand the
current memory to 128 Mega ?

If so, why wasn't it made until now for the moko ?
And is there anyone here that already done that ?

Thanks,
Ido

boot mmc problems

2009-10-15 Thread ik
Hello list,

I'm having problems booting from the uSD since I installed (once) Android on
my Neo FreeRunner (I removed it since then).
At first it claimed it can not boot from mmc, and now it claims it can not
find any boot partition and Kernel image.
It seems like it does not access the memory card at all, because even when I
extract the card from the phone, it has the same error.
I reburned u-boot and configured it to boot from uSD, but it still claim the
same errors. The same error exists both on NOR and NAND, so I do not think
it's a u-boot error.
I burned the same kernel and rootfs of SHR to the phone itself and it works,
but with the uSD it just have this error messages.

Any ideas how to understand what is wrong and how to solve it ?

Thanks,
Ido

Re: boot mmc problems

2009-10-15 Thread ik
Hi,

Thank you for your answer.

After further investigation, it seems like SHR /dev/ directory does not
contain any mmc device at all.
It seems like om does not find the uSD socket any more.

Booting from MicroSD

2009-03-30 Thread ik
Hello,

I have FreeRunner 02v6. I'm trying to boot using u-boot a different distro
then on the NAND memory.

I created a vfat partition size 8M, and an ext2 partition with all of the
rest size.
I took 2008.12 and untar the rootfs to the ext2 partition. I placed the
uImage.bin into the vfat partition.

The Kernel (I tried both the original 2008.12 kernel and the testing kernel)
is loaded until It arrive to the following messages:

Configure network interfaces ... /usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1327: No
soundcard found ...
usb0: no IPv6 routers present.

And that's it, it does not continue loading. If I keep it up, it turn the
screen off, and only by pressing shortly on the power button it turn on
again, with messages on the screen about this two actions.
If I attach/detache the usb cable, I also see messages by the kernel, but
nothing more.

What am I missing or doing wrong ?

Thanks,
Ido

Debugging SIM problems

2009-03-22 Thread ik
Hello,

I just got OM to my hands (actually two days ago), on the original distro
(2008.8), I was able to read the SIM content and get calls but not to call
others.
When I upgraded to 2008.12 and after that to FSO stable, it stopped reading
my (and few other people's) SIM card at all, and I get with FSO stable and
zhone the following error message:

GSM failed to read authentication status

I also since then experience problems with my regular cell phone (no voice
mail or caller id (both for incoming and outgoing calls).

I have a guess that the carrier blocked something, however I'm no expert in
cellular, so my question is what/how can I debug such things in order to
understand what is wrong ?

I added logging to /var/log/messages instead of a buffer so I can supply the
log if required.

Thanks,
Ido

I called the carrier, it seems that there are few problems both with their

It does seem like a carrier issue. Anytime that phone is requesting

I'm not an expert in these kinds of situations, but if someone else
might have an idea about this.
It might also be wise to check with your carrier and see if there is
an issue with your SIM card and/or if you can request to have it
 replaced.
