[QTMoko] Voicemail alerts coming in as text messages from "129"?
I have been using QTMoko and the FreeRunner for some time now, and one little glitch is getting the best of me. Whenever someone leaves me a voicemail or I listen to, delete, or save voicemails I receive a blank text message from "129". I'm assuming there is some kind of message that's being sent to the phone to let it know if there are any available messages, but it mistakenly shows up as a text. I would *really* like to get this taken care of as having to go through and delete 10 blank messages at a time is getting really irritating. Then I have to delete another after I listen to my messages. I already checked to make sure my voicemail is NOT setup to deliver text alerts, and indeed that setting is turned off, so that is not the case here. Any and all ideas are GREATLY appreciated! Thanks everybody :) -- ,-o | Steve Woodruff o ) | swo...@ubuntu.com `-o | https://wiki.ubuntu.com/swoody ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I'm happy to say it does seem less buggy initially, I'll have to play with it a bit more to really test out the new changes. There's one minor thing I noticed with the new power management function. When on battery, the power manager defaults to the 'When locked' option. When I then plug in the phone it switches to 'On Battery' instead of 'Plugged In'. Not sure if we still have to restart QTMoko after plugging in to switch to the 'Plugged in' mode by default, or if this is a bug with the new setup. Again, this is very preliminary usage, so I'd still like to try it out for a while with different circumstances and see how things go. -- Steve Woodruff swo...@ubuntu.com https://wiki.ubuntu.com/swoody ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Well thank you very much for that offer :) I was able to get USB mode working by installing SHR onto th phone's nand. Then I followed the instructions from that wiki page again, and was able to get it working without issue. It acts just like a USB thumb drive - it automounts on my laptop, I can access the SD, and I can even use gparted on it. So I think for the time being that this will serve my purposes very well. I don't use the SHR which is installed on nand, I just have it there 'in case', so I have no problem leaving it installed so I can always access my sd as a USB drive. I do think sooner or later that I may want to pick up a card reader, and like you suggested, I think I will just find a cheap one on eBay or NewEgg. -- Woody swo...@ubuntu.com https://wiki.ubuntu.com/swoody ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: QTMoko - Diffuculty trying to mount sd as USB
(sorry for the double-post Jose) Yes, that is what I figured out rather quickly :) I ran the commands again from QTMoko (v21) on my FreeRunner, and I still got a ton of errors. I then reverted back to v19, and still had the same issues. Then I tried installing SHR-t, and things worked perfectly, all of the commands worked without error, and I was able to see my phone's sd card as a USB device on my computer. I then installed QTMoko on the sd, and left SHR-t on the nand, so now I'm dual-booting the two of them. Thanks for your post though! I do think it may be helpful for us FR-noobs if someone could just put a note on that wiki page that it should be run on the phone OS, and not on the host computer. - Woody > A Dijous, 15 de d'abril de 2010 01:49:57, swoody va escriure: >> Well, I've been trying my darnedest to get the sd card in my phone to >> mount as a USB drive. QTMoko - Diffuculty trying to mount sd as USB
Well, I've been trying my darnedest to get the sd card in my phone to mount as a USB drive. I have been Googling and trying to use this guide from the wiki to no avail: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Using_the_Neo_as_an_USB_Mass_storage_device When I try to mount the /media/card I get an error that it's not found. Fair enough, I run 'fdisk -l' and the only information listed is my internal drive. I was able to see that the device is recognized by my computer: [ 1959.576070] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 [ 1959.791253] usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 2 choices [ 1959.800462] eth2: register 'cdc_ether' at usb-:00:1d.2-2, CDC Ethernet Device, 00:1f:11:01:13:f6 The next step, I then run 'rmmod g_ether', that module isn't existent. So through dmesg I find the driver which is active, and I tried disabling that: "rmmod cdc_ether" This is the only command which didn't give me an error message. On the last command (modprobe g_file_storage file=/dev/mmcblk0 stall=0), I get the output: FATAL: Error inserting g_file_storage (/lib/modules/2.6.32-21-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/g_file_storage.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) After checking dmesg again, I now see: [ 1830.381547] g_file_storage gadget-lun0: unable to open backing file: /dev/mmcblk0 I'm nearly at my wits end here. I don't have access to a card reader, and I tried setting up 3 different phones (non-FR's) as USB drives, but each one has it's own unique issue. So I'm left hoping someone out there may be able to help me out with this. I would really appreciate any ideas you all may have. Thanks in advance! - Woody ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Looking to pick up a FreeRunner
Hello OpenMoko fans :) I hope this post isn't out of line, but Craigslist and eBay were of no use. I am in a bit of a predicament with my current, closed (bleh!) cell phone. The screen stopped working, and incoming and outgoing calls have ceased as well. I tried to have it replaced through my cellular carrier, but they are trying to blame it on me saying that it must be abuse to the phone - with the condition the phone is in physically, this is obviously not the case. So I am rather ticked off with them. The good news is that this is a great opportunity for me to finally make the jump to a *free* phone. Having been a user of *Free* GNU/linux distros - Trisquel and gNewSense - my cell phone is the last device I own that isn't GPL-friendly. I am hoping to use this opportunity as a chance to learn more in the way of developing and getting a chance to truly enjoy the benefits of *free* software. Unfortunately, this is a pretty bad time as I can't afford to lay out $200USD for a new FreeRunner. I'm a full-time student, and funds are indeed short. I was hoping somebody out there may have an extra FreeRunner, or know someone who is looking to part with one. I have no problems with non-buzz-fixed models, as I would be very interested in doing this hack myself, but I am equally open to the models with this fix. If you can help me out here, or if you know someone who is looking to part ways with a FreeRunner, I would truly appreciate if you got in touch with me. Please feel free to email me directly if you wish, rather than replying to the entire mailing list. Thank you all in advance, and happy hacking! -Woody ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
