Hello

I have the same problem with my SIM card from Sunrise here in Switzerland. Out

Is their any solution yet to this problem?.

Many people (including I) have not been able to get the at&t 3g sim card
(the one with the "3g fireball") working in our neos. The older cingular
ones do work (they are "64K smart chip").

I have two cingular "64K smart chip" SIMs that won't work in the neo1973 (CME
10), but they both work in both my razr and sierra ac860 card.

Both SIMs are about 9-10 months old now - maybe they changed a while back
while keeping similar markings? On the back, one says "3G" (with a tiny "c"
after it) and has the numbers 64205G and 3020. The other also has 3G(c) and
has 64205O (capital "o") and 4020.

I dug up an old SIM (also cingular) that does work (so I know the GSM chip and
SIM socket aren't faulty), but that account is no longer active.

What fuss in particular? I can play audio with madplay, but have yet

Right before you dial a call, try

alsactl -f /etc/alsa/gsmhandset.state restore

Then fire up alsamixer and adjust Amp Left and Amp Right to suit your needs.

Also, this should work with the headset plugged in, and using
gsmheadset.state as well, and then you can use stereoout.state to put it
back to stereo output.

So, in short, that works for me. However, I can't seem to make the gsm
system function reliably. Seems it can only handle 1 call before a full
reboot is needed, unless gsm and x are restarted, and even then that
only works on occasion. Otherwise the modem just appears to hang, and
restarting gsmd, and attempting to re-register makes no effect.

Minor update on the cingular/att 3g sim issue:

I tested my device out this evening with a t-mobile prepaid sim (2g),
and I am able to make outgoing calls successfully. Even got the audio
working after some fuss ;)

So anyhow, seems like its definitely due to either the cingular/att
network and/or the 3g sim card, and not the neo itself.

Fwiw, the sim contacts on both of the sims appear slightly different. I
do not know enough about sim cards to know how significant that is.

The 71324 is the SKU for the AT&T latest UICC.
The 4021 is the Vendor and Version number.
Based at looking at some cards the vendor numbers are
   2 - G&D
   3 - Gemalto
   4 - Oberthur

I have access to a tool monitoring the communication between the SIM and

Well the AT&T 3G cards are definitely have both a SIM and USIM
application on them and AT&T do a lot of device testing before approving

the cards so it really should work.

Can you say what the Vendor and Version Number of the UICC is?
This is the 4 digit number beginning with a 2 under the "3g fireball" on

I'm not actually sure what number you need. On the (what I would call front
side) side with NO contacts there is the iccid number which is long. On the
back (side with contacts) their are 2 numbers: 71324 and 4021 (please don't
clone my phone, lol). So we don't play email tag I'm on IRC (name
calamous_), could you mind hopping on or messaging me if you are already.

According to the GSM modem it gives error CME 10 (sim card not
inserted). any ideas?
Well the AT&T 3G cards are definitely have both a SIM and USIM
application on them and AT&T do a lot of device testing before approving
the cards so it really should work.

Can you say what the Vendor and Version Number of the UICC is?
This is the 4 digit number beginning with a 2 under the "3g fireball" on
the front of the card.

Since the Calypso chipset is 2G a "3G SIM" will only work if it contains
both the USIM and SIM applications.
I would expect that this is the case for most operators that have both
2G and 3G networks.
It is less likely that operators such as 3 would put a SIM application
on their cards - at least I can't think why they would - since this
would only be used by a 2G handset which couldn't use their network.

yes, you won't get 3G service, but you'll still be able to use GPRS and
GSM voice or data
