I think you can do the same also through the GUI in qtmoko:
settings -> language
[your language] -> use for input -> checked

but it seems not deactivable on the default language (the check box is locked
on true) and if you select a secondary language the selection is switched back
on false when you leave the dialog window.

btw only my "docked" keyboard is predictable, but suggestions are showed only
on the first half of the bar on the top of it.

ok, I realized only now you are talking about the "predictive" keyboard and I
thought only the docked one to have this feature :P sorry, I need to go to
sleep! (dreaming for a bed)

but the above one seems to be a bug in lang. config gui, is it?

On the off change you're still interested, I found the setting last
night by reading through the source. :-). I'm running a clean install
of QtMoko 26.

ssh onto your Freerunner and then type:
cd /home/root/Settings/Trolltech
cp /opt/qtmoko/etc/default/Trolltech/PredictiveKeyboard.conf .
echo "unpredictive=0" >> PredictiveKeyboard.conf

I know this reply is >2 months late, but better late than never, right?

Anyway, have you tried using the Docked Keyboard? I use it; it
suggests completions based on the letters of a word entered so far. I
do not know if this is what you meant by “predictive keyboard”, but it
is sufficient for me. I am still using QtMoko v14 but, AFAIK, the
Docked Keyboard’s behaviour has not changed since I started using QtMoko
at v11.

I do not have an answer for you, except to tell you I am a native English
speaker too and already use QtMoko (still using v14) as my primary
(cellular) phone. However, I am curious: are you related to Evangelene
Alaraj (nee Weatherill)? I noticed you used the Canadian/UK spelling of
“behaviour”, so I thought you may live in Canada too. I live in Delta,
British Columbia.

QTMoko predictive keyboard weirdness

2009-12-18 Thread Daniel Weatherill
Hi everyone,
first of all I have always found the QTMoko/QTopia distirbuytion to be
the only really usable software on openmoko (SHR is now getting there
slowly I suppose), so thanks :-D

I have a few questions about QTMoko predictive keyboard. I know
prediction was disabled by default a couple of versions ago, I
understand this as most people are not english speakers.

However, some of us ARE english speakers and found the predictive
keyboard very good, so I tried to re-enable prediction on my new
qtmoko (v15) install. When I perform the diagonal slide, all I get is
a change in deletion behaviour (instead of left slide deleting only
one character from the "Word bar", it deletes the entire word) - this
is the behaviour I remember from the old predictive keyboard, except
no prediction suggestions are displayed, the keyboard simply types
whatever I hit, whether accidental or good.

Can someone help me with this?
Please please please - this is almost ready to be my daily phone now
if this (and the incoming SMS bug of course) are fixed!

thanks in advance

Dan
