Re: Shipping costs

2007-07-15 Thread krakatau
Yes, this problem can exist in the case device will be called as consumer
electronic device in the sending.

But maybe calling it electronic test device/engeneering sample can
overcome customs limitations?

Also it is possible to ask guys living in Finland to order it: this is not
so far from SPb. And device delivery by any post company inside the Russia
is fine.

The last one idea is to ask any company (HPC?) that has proper channels to
deliver it.

Best regards,
Denis

I wanted to purchase neo to Belarus - 140 bucks for shipping, that's a

Western Europe is about 90.

What's going on, WHY ???

Are there any plans to reduce shipping costs for the 1st generation of
neo in the next future?

I'd appreciate any quotes on that.

Re: Shipping costs

2007-07-11 Thread Ben

To Australia was more than twice what Sean initially suggested.
Luckily the USD is doing poorly against the AUD lately, so that eased
the burden.

That sounds likely, especially given the effort they have to put into
the project. I'd say most of the added cost is in packing, addressing,
etc. and they may have planned on doing that in house earlier. I hope
that there is reasonable insurance cover included.

 Via EMS (postal "rush" air
mail, takes about a week from the US to Belarus) it would be much
less.

I had an MP3 player (probably about half the size of the OpenMoko's
box (at a guess) sent from US to Australia via FEDEX. It took 36 hours
from payment to arrival at the local (inland) courier base station
where my friend worked and he called me when it got there. It was
US$25 or so for shipping from memory.

Same here in South Africa - I cant justify the phone if the shipping is
going to be half the device price.
