There are quite a number of patches to gsmd being applied in OpenEmbedded which means it appears to be a lot more stable, which in turn means making calls is a lot more reliable. We've been using two Neo1973s to call each other multiple times in the last week without any fiddling on the command line. Of course, battery life is a separate issue. For my purposes, it's almost good as a day-to-day phone - I can make phone-calls, send SMSes, take notes, calendar activites, etcetera without ever using a terminal (except for battery time (Lorn Potter from Qtopia is working on getting suspend working for the next snapshot - it currently breaks GSM after resume) and some quirks with writing with the onscreen keyboard). [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Will I be able to use GTA02 as a phone? We hope so, but we won't hold up release of the hardware if the software is incomplete. The November release of GTA02 is still aimed at developers: The hardware will be finished, but the software will still be under development. Or will I still be required to have the neo plugged in via usb tied to a computer and ssh in, and face east while standing on one leg to make a phone call? :-) More direct question: What state will the software be in when the GTA02 ships? (Not that I will buy a GTA02, I am just wondering when I can use my GTA01) In my next update I hope to focus more on the software. I've been on the road lately and have not had a chance to talk to the software team; I hope to do so next week. Then I should be able to provide some information as to (a) the current state of the software and (b) the state of the software we expect to coincide with the release of GTA02. ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Can you provide an update on the GPS situation for GTA02? The most recent information I had heard was that two different chipsets were being evaluated. Has the choice been made yet? ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

We have made three prototype runs to test various subsystems. Our best case analysis of the schedule indicates that GTA02 will be ready for shipment to end users in early to mid December. Is that mid-December for: a) the pilot-run P0 developer end users (just like the P0 50-units free phase of GTA01), or b) the mass production P1 developer end users (just like the P1 GTA01 phones currently being sold), or c) the mass production P2 general market software-ready end users? We understand that schedules are hard to estimate and will vary wildly based on things outside the control of those estimating the timeframes, but we can still be very precise about exactly *what* it is that we are hearing time-scale estimates for ;-) I would guess b), but let me confirm. May I suggest taking pre-orders to get some idea of what volume will be needed upon launch? After waiting this long it sure wouldn't be nice not to get one because they are in short supply! Sounds like a good idea. I will suggest this to the appropriate people. Great! I was committed to wait until December to buy a GTA-02 (Ok, I lied, I'd wait longer if I had to :-) ), so, great news!
