I had never had any complaints before that, so I may just be able to alter a configuration and get it fixed. I have the skills to do the buzz fix on my own (experience with circuit board soldering and modification), but I'm not sure my current soldering gun has a fine enough point (Cold Heat). I was considering doing mine anyway and then offering up a buzz-fix party or maybe do it for those that can't. The boot menu I'm talking about is the one when you hold the aux button and press the power button. If that's the NOR boot menu, then I can't get to the NOR boot menu. I'll try what Brian suggested in his email and leave it with no power (battery or charger) for a while... Why dont you reflash? (you do know that the FR has two boot options for flashing - one being read only so it cant be easily trashed? - see the wiki) Your description implies that the upgrade left you with a missmatched kernel and modules, or no modules - can you flash your original kernel back (you do keep backups/versions? :) Put a distro on an SD card, boot and install the matching modules package. Just depends how much you lose with whats on the phone - easier just to reflash and start again if nothing valuable. Re: Serious problems after failed upgrade
Unfortunately I cannot get into the boot menu, and my desktop computers don't see the FR. Not only that, but last night I tried the 1 amp wall charger to see if the higher output would get it to recognize the USB/power cable, and it didn't. The interesting thing about the USB port is that if I plug the adapter into the FR while it's turned off, it recognizes the connection and boots (as expected) but somewhere along the way the USB port is completely disabled. I don't know if it's a mokonnect failure or what, but something is completely hosed. So much that I used to be able to take the battery out as long as it was connected to the charger, but now it turns off as if it wasn't. Would I be able to fix it if I had a debug board? I also need the buzz fix done on my phone, so if there were a US company that I could send the phone to that would do that work, maybe they could reinstall the bootloader so that I could at least get to the boot menu. That's really all I need is to get to the boot menu and I can do the rest from there. The FreeRunner was my first smart phone, and I've gotten used to it. I don't want to tether myself to either Apple or Google, and I definitely don't want a Microsoft smart phone, so that leaves the FR, or some other smart phone that I haven't found yet. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Serious-problems-after-failed-upgrade-tp4747627p4751376.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

The boot menu doesn't come up, and it doesn't recognize the USB connection. Worst case is I'll get into the phone, copy everything that I want to the microSD in the terminal, and just be done with it. The reason I tried for the upgrade was that on top of being my daily phone, I've recently been using it as a mobile data connection for my netbook, but after what seems like a specific amount of data is transferred, the GPRS connection and mdbus locks (have to reboot the phone to recover). I hoped that there was an upgraded driver, because I remember someone talking about dropped connections after data transfer. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Serious-problems-after-failed-upgrade-tp4747627p4747769.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Serious problems after failed upgrade
I tried to upgrade last night (Mar 15th), and it didn't complete, but the display got messed up enough that I couldn't continue the process. I thought the upgrade was complete since the command prompt was back, so I rebooted. After the reboot, I have a few problems, and I'm not sure how to fix it. 1) the boot menu doesn't come up (aux-power) 2) when booted normally, it doesn't recognize the USB connected, and the battery doesn't charge. 3) I can't start any programs except the terminal. (this means I can't dim the backlight to make the battery last longer and gain more time to solve this problem) I have an A6 FreeRunner, and since the "brick" problems were fixed by the boot menu, I didn't buy the debug board. Is there any way to recover my phone? If I need to buy a debug board, hopefully I'll be able to find one. If there's something I can do to get it to even get to the boot menu, I'd be happy. In hindsight I should have left it turned on, connected via SSH and finished the upgrade without a reboot, but unfortunately I didn't. :( I've never lost the boot menu. I'm on SHR-unstable, and my bootloader is Qi. I appreciate any help offered. -Laura -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Serious-problems-after-failed-upgrade-tp4747627p4747627.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
