What you haven't experienced then is Toothing. Apparently, it's rife on the trains between London and Brighton (in the UK) and often ends up with the people toothing each other getting it together... Nothing to do with spam. I only found out when one great bear of a guy came up brandishing his phone ... did you guys do this ... with the image on his display - I didnt know it was even possible at the time! Advertisers use it a lot. I've also spoken to someone who was using the spamming service for a community heritage project; you walked around and had details of the area you're in sent to your phone.
