We have learnt with profound shock and sadness the untimely death of Dr Tarek
Kamel, one of AFRINIC’s founding members. Dr Kamel served as a Provisional
Board of Trustees between 2001 and 2004 before AFRINIC was incorporated in
2005, and thus played a key role in the establishment of the organisation. Dr
Kamel was at the time of his untimely death a Senior Advisor to the President,
Government Affairs, at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
(ICANN).
We, at AFRINIC and the global internet fraternity in general, have lost a dear
friend, and dedicated, passionate and committed champion of the Internet and
the values it represents in keeping the world’s citizens linked and connected.
On behalf of AFRINIC’s Board of Directors, staff, the member base,
community-at-large and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our deepest and most
heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and to the Global
Internet community. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Message de condoléances à la famille et aux amis du Dr Tarek Kamel
Chers collègues,
Nous avons appris avec une profonde tristesse le décès prématuré du Dr Tarek
Kamel, l’un des membres fondateurs d’AFRINIC. Le Dr Kamel a siégé au conseil
d'administration provisoire d’AFRINIC de 2001 à 2004 avant sa constitution en
2005 et a donc joué un rôle clé dans la création de l'organisation. Au moment
de son décès prématuré, M. Kamel était conseiller principal auprès du président
chargé des affaires gouvernementales de l’lCANN.
AFRINIC et la fraternité mondiale de l’Internet en général ont perdu un ami
cher et un défenseur dévoué, passionné et engagé de l’Internet et des valeurs
qu’il représente pour garder les citoyens du monde connectés.
Au nom du conseil d’administration d’AFRINIC, du personnel, des membres, de la
communauté dans son ensemble et en mon nom personnel, je souhaite exprimer nos
plus sincères condoléances aux familles, aux amis et à la communauté Internet
mondial. Que son âme repose éternellement en paix.

لقد تعلمنا بصدمة وحزن عميقين الموت المفاجئ للدكتور طارق كامل ، أحد الأعضاء
المؤسسين لـ AFRINIC. شغل الدكتور كامل منصب مجلس الأمناء المؤقت بين عامي 2001 و
2004 قبل تأسيس AFRINIC في عام 2005 ، وبالتالي لعب دورًا رئيسيًا في إنشاء
المنظمة. كان الدكتور كامل في وقت وفاته المفاجئة مستشارًا أولًا لرئيس الشؤون
الحكومية في مؤسسة الإنترنت للأسماء والأرقام المخصصة (ICANN).
نحن في AFRINIC والأخوة العالمية للإنترنت بشكل عام ، فقدنا صديقًا عزيزًا ،
