[Compiz] [Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

Actually this is gnome-appearance-properties automatically changing the
settings for button position based on the theme name.

[Compiz] [Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

2010-06-04 Thread David Ly-Gagnon
Thanks for your quick reply BG.
I can now confirm the bug. I think the source of the bug is compiz since the
bug appears in any window, not just from Firefox.
I am using compiz:1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15.

The following steps can be used to reproduce the bug:
1. In the Control Panel, click on System->Preferences->Apperance (it opens
Apperance Preference window).
2. From the Theme tab, select Ambiance
3. At the bottom, click on Customize (it opens Customize Theme window)
4. From the Colours tab, click on the colour button of Windows and Background
and set the color name to anything else, e.g.: #231D11.
5. Select OK to apply the new colour. This will create a new custom theme based
on the Ambiance theme.
6. Click "Save As" button located at the bottom of the "Appearance Preferences"
Window.
7. Give it a new name, e.g.: custom_theme. and click "Save".
At this point, the close, maximize, and minimize buttons appears on the top
left side of the window.
8. Now, change back to the Ambiance theme.
9. Change back to the custom_theme.
10. Observe where the close, maximize and minimize buttons are located. I can
see they are now on the right.

Actual output: The close, maximize and minimize buttons are located on the
right side of the window.
Expected output: The close, maximize and minimze buttons should be located on
the left side of the window.

I am setting the status to confirmed.

Thank you,

[Compiz] [Bug 589377] [NEW] when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

2010-06-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox

I like themes with dark background and white text. Also, I would like to
embrace the new window buttons position introduced in Ubuntu with its
latest release, through the ambiance and radiance themes. Nevertheless,
when trying to change the colors of the ambiance theme, in order to get
dark background and white text, the resultant theme automatically puts
the window buttons in the right side of the window header.

[Compiz] [Bug 572617] Re: [regression-release] Session manager lacks backward compatibility, making the desktop session unusable

2010-06-04 Thread Doug Morse
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 467668 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/467668

Hi,

Me too.

On an older desktop, which I just upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and
which had *none* of these problems before the upgrade, the only solution
that works is (b) compiz --replace as a startup item. This machine uses
the older nvidia 96 drivers.

On a very new laptop, which I just upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and
*already* had these kind of problems before the upgrade, the only
solution that works is (b) compiz --replace as a startup item. This
machine uses the new ati fglrx 8.723 drivers (2:8.723-1 in the repos).

Also, for both machines and after implementing the above workaround(s),
selecting "Start Awn automatically" under Dock Preferences does *not*
work. So, for both machines: I deselect this option, create
/usr/local/bin/awn-delayed as simple shell script which simply runs
"sleep 5; avant-window-navigator", and then I create a startup item that
calls /usr/local/bin/awn-delayed . (Without the sleep 5 command, awn
seems to start before compiz, probably because in my workaround compiz
is running as a startup program, not as the gnome default window
manager, as would normally be the case. Others may need to adjust the
sleep time up or down according to their machine's speed.)

These two workarounds seem to get me machines that, when I log into
them, behave as I expect and as I think they ought to in Ubuntu by
default: Compiz starts (and "extra" shows up as selected in the System
-> Preferences -> Appearances dialog) and AWN starts.

HTH,
Doug

So I've realized what has happened. The tooltip is larger than your
video card's max texture size so compiz aborts and launches metacity
because the only other option would be for you to see a blank white
window as there is no way for compiz to show that window.

[Compiz] [Bug 566896] Re: [feature request] mapping of minimized windows

2010-06-04 Thread Travis Watkins
This is actually a standards issue. The xorg folks are technically right
as the fix we'd want from them would be to make unmapping a window not
actually unmap it which isn't a good idea. What we need is a way to stop
showing the window and not send input to it either. This will most
likely involve changes to every application (or at least to every
toolkit) as well as to WMs that want to support this.

Hey Chris,

i went to the xorg people, however they said that, i quote "minimized
windows is entirely a window manager concept." and has to be done by the
compiz developers. I didn't play the ping pong game any further, as i
expect a similar answer from the compiz developers.

I'd be happy if you would put some effort in this issue, I also would
like to see a fix!

Thanks,

[Compiz] [Bug 103306] Re: compiz eats mouse clicks at the border of the screen

2010-06-04 Thread Julian J. M.
Ok, to answer myself, here is a workaround for those using the
cube+rotate plugins, and that don't want to lose those 2 pixels at each
border.

1) Disable any flip edge feature in the rotate plugin
2) Run this cmds:
$ gconftool-2 -s -t string
/apps/compiz/plugins/rotate/allscreens/options/rotate_flip_left_edge ""
$ gconftool-2 -s -t string
/apps/compiz/plugins/rotate/allscreens/options/rotate_flip_right_edge ""
3) Enjoy your screen borders

You can also use gconf-editor if you want a gui.

[Compiz] [Bug 103306] Re: compiz eats mouse clicks at the border of the screen

2010-06-04 Thread Julian J. M.
Shoudn't it work when none of the flip options are enabled?

I really don't care if I cannot move a window to another desktop by
dragging, but it kills me not to be able to click on a maximized window
when the cursor is at the border of the screen.
