Re: [Compiz] [Bug 749084] Re: Dbus-Plugin of compiz not working

2011-05-01 Thread Sam Spilsbury
The API was updated. You need to s/allscreens/screen0/ . Also a lot of
the list and introspection stuff is not yet implemented since there
was no time to do it in the rewrite. This is an area for which
somebody could contribute if they are interested.

[Compiz] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-05-01 Thread Bruce Crowther
I take your point, Josh, but it is easier for me to leave 11.04 on my
machine and use the 173 driver than it is to reinstall a previous
version of the OS.

If I was to do that I would tend to go back to the last LTS version, and
without looking, I just bet I've lost all the "howto" notes I made
myself when I worked through the process of getting everything working
in that!

After forty years of marriage I have finally accepted that compromise
and a workaround can be almost as effective as a fix. 8-)

[Compiz] [Bug 775325] Re: compiz windows decoration missing (no title bar etc)

2011-05-01 Thread Ron Lewkowicz
Same thing happened to me after the upgrade. Switched back to the old
gnome and all the desktop effects had been changed. Opened up
compizconifg and when I turned the cube back on it lost all the other
effects, decorations, move windows... pretty much everything. Just
continue on with compizconfig and turn everything you need or want back
on. Turn window decorations back on, move windows etc. It is all good
again once that is done.

[Compiz] [Bug 775325] [NEW] compiz windows decoration missing (no title bar etc)

2011-05-01 Thread Greg Wilkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I upgraded a working 10.10 system to 11.04. Initially all was OK, but my
desktop cube had been replaced by a 2x2 grid.
I ran compizconfig-setting-manager and enabled desktop cube and immediately my
window decoration vanished.
But there is still a window manager running and I can move and resize windows
using key/mouse short cuts. I can see two instances of compiz running (should
there be only one?).

If I run metacity, it says there is already a window manager.
If I run metacity --replace, it runs and I get window decoration, but no compiz
etc.

I have read #577482 and tried all the fixes listed there - they have no
effect (well most of them the file does not exist).

I've tried switching off the desktop cube and going back to wall. This
does not fix the window decoration.

I've tried changing themes and editing my theme, also no joy.

[Compiz] [Bug 751073] Re: resizing in compiz doesn't show the terminal size

2011-05-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The problem is that natty/unity does not have the "resizeinfo" compiz
plugin enabled by default. You can turn it on with a simple:

gconftool -s /apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins -t
list --list-type=string
'[core,bailer,detection,composite,opengl,compiztoolbox,decor,vpswitch,place,imgpng,regex,unitymtgrabhandles,grid,session,gnomecompat,snap,mousepoll,resize,move,animation,expo,ezoom,workarounds,wall,staticswitcher,fade,scale,unityshell,resizeinfo]'

Or by enabling it in ccsm if you have that installed.

[Compiz] [Bug 741112] Re: Dead zone on the screen

2011-05-01 Thread Gerad Munsch
I am having this issue as well. I have no idea how the final release
made it "out the door" with this bug.

I've attached a screenshot -- my deadzone is the area where my mouse is
located, the full width of the screen. (ie, for any "x" coordinate with
that specific "y" coordinate, my mouse is not functional -- no clicks,
no scrolling)

It's incredibly frustrating. I look forward to seeing a fix for this odd

[Compiz] [Bug 775267] [NEW] Grid Resize Actions Are Not Working

2011-05-01 Thread BryanFRitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Grid Resize Actions No Longer does anything
CCSM->Window Management->Grid->Bindings, and/or Edges->Resize Actions /
Thresholds
Set up the resizing of windows here, and try to get it to automatically resize
a window by dragging the window with the mouse until the mouse hits a corner or
an edge.
Also try setting up the shortcuts, and trying them too.
Neither one of these ways is working. (at least for me, right now)
and Yes, the Grid plugin is enabled.

p.s.
a large portion of the Maximumize plugin bindings don't work either.

[Compiz] [Bug 526642] Re: compiz.real crashed when OpenOffice freeze with SIGSEGV in eventLoop()

2011-05-01 Thread Andreas Zeller
confirmed on my side. However, it does not actually crash, compiz just
gets stuck with a 100% cpu load. Killing compiz and gdm works, but no
way of starting libre/openoffice with compiz. On openbox it works fine,
tried it just now.

Never had this before, using compiz ever since it existed. Same with
open office. Something seems to be wrong with those 'special' kinds of
windows like java and the vi window.

[Compiz] [Bug 751311] Re: shadow under focused window is too big and can't be made smaller

2011-05-01 Thread Giulio Franco
Found that this is happening because shadows settings are coded in a xml file
related to the metacity theme in use.
The involved file is
/usr/share/themes/your_theme_name/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml
The guilty tags are the ones.

You can either edit settings directly in this xml, or in a copy theme, or
comment those shadow tags, which will give powers back to the compiz
configuration utility.
The xml approach has the advantage that settings can be customized for
different kinds of windows, while the standard compiz configurator only allows
to edit a global setting.

[Compiz] [Bug 760814] Re: Compiz Very Slow and Choppy in Natty Classic

2011-05-01 Thread XPN
Same issue, running NVidia Proprietary drivers on a Nvidia GTS 250.

Tried the above suggestions (disable Window Decorations, Vsync) and
nothing seems to make any improvement. GLXgears causes 20-30% spike in
CPU usage, and has the same symptoms as above (favourable framerate but
runs very slow).

[Compiz] [Bug 775205] [NEW] [natty] heavy tearing with nvidia driver

2011-05-01 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I experienced very heavy tearing during video playback with nvidia
driver. I tryed every workaround (xv sync to vblank in nvidia-setting,
sync to vblank in compizconfig, some enviromental variables, setting of
output in compizconfig general options) but doesn't work. The same
workarounds worked fine in ludic.

[Compiz] [Bug 762693] Re: Enhanced zoom is laggy with Compiz 0.9.4

2011-05-01 Thread Andreas Zeller
Hey everyone,

I am on nVidia, actually on a pretty powerful system (Q6600 + geForce
9800 GT). Had the exact same issues. Switched "sync to vblank" off,
system is a lot more responsive when moving the mouse around when zoomed
in.

I can confirm this behavior on an nVidia system. It's gotta be compiz.

Just a hint: I had sync to Vblank switched on on maverick before, I had
those issues after the upgrade, amongst other annoying natty habits.

Andreas

[Compiz] [Bug 706918] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in RegexExp::evaluate()

2011-05-01 Thread Ronnie
This bug keeps on happening. Its been happening since 40 days. That is
when i upgraded from maverick to NATTY. It happens on kernels 2.6.36,
2.6.38, the generic ubuntu kernel too. I tested it with 5 different
kernels. The following message is found in /var/log/syslog

Apr 30 17:51:37 solidus-workstation kernel: [437609.857278]
compiz[19952]: segfault at 10 ip 7fa564066335 sp 7fff096e1350
error 4 in libregex.so[7fa564061000+8000]

Long ago b4 the upgrade there was no problems with the 2.6.36 kernel.
Therefore im sure its not a kernel problem. Moreover, it used to happen
a lot b4 the last 2 compiz updates. Now it happens only twice or 3
times when i log in to the system nd then it takes a long time to
happen again. Also if i logout nd log in again, the same story repeats
where compiz crashes 2 or 3 times and then takes a very long time to
crash . The crash occurs when new windows open such as when u open
banshee or the sound preferences or any gtk window etc...

[Compiz] [Bug 758338] Re: compiz-decorator:: selecting gtk-window-decorator is impossible

Shouldn't compiz be separated from unity (i.e. compiz and compiz-unity)
instead of changing the base package like this one is? With compiz-
decorator, you can not select gtk-window-decorator. Other plugins are
separated out (compiz-fusion-plugins-main/extra).

[Compiz] [Bug 775044] [NEW] Compiz window unable to regain focus after selecting a rolled up window

2011-05-01 Thread Corasol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

** Description **
After selecting (focusing) a rolled up window, selecting another window will
not be possible, since it will not gain focus.

** How to reproduce **
1. Go to "System Settings" > "Windows"
2. Set "Titlebar Action" > "Double-click titlebar to perform this action" >
"Roll up"
3. Open window
4. Open second window
5. Select the first window and double click the titlebar to roll it up
6. Select the second window
7. Select the first window again (which is still rolled up)
8. Select the second window again (it will not be able to obtain focus)

This has been tested on both Unity and Classic environments of 11.04,
with the same results. Classic without effect (Metacity) isn't affected.
This particular report was based on a virtual machine, but problem is
reproducible outside of it.

[Compiz] [Bug 732050] Re: Dual display blanks both screens . Can only see the cursor

2011-05-01 Thread Ricardo Caldeira
I get exactly the same problem in an HP dv3 with a fresh-installed Natty. I'm
using the proprietary driver from ATI (v11.4) with unity and compiz running. I
have radeon and intel_ips modules blacklisted.
When I connect the external VGA monitor it goes to login screen and, if I do
login, I get two black screens with a frozen mouse pointer in the middle of
both. Booting up with the monitor already plugged in yields the same scenario.
Occasionally, I can see a stack trace blinking on and off both monitors. I'll
try to get a photo of it.
I also tried booting with recovery's failsafe mode and setup xorg.conf for a
dual-head with "$ aticonfig --initial=dual-head -f", but it didn't solve it :(

The pluggin grid of Compiz is the cause. When the "indicator direction"

[Compiz] [Bug 754948] Re: Desktop Wall & Viewport Switcher: Bindings for "Next" and "Prev" workspaces dont work. Bindings that use screen edges don't work.

2011-05-01 Thread Mark White
And another one here.

Edge-flipping 'sometimes' works. Sometimes it will left flip, but not
right flip. Or I'll flip right and flip back left again, but then I
can't flip right again. Disabling and reenabling Viewpoint Switcher
makes it work reliably, but this corrupts the panel, and after I logout
and login again to reset this, it's back to 'sometimes' working.

Just now I tried making left edge flip on 'bottom-left' and right flip
on 'bottom-right'. It wouldn't flip, then it flipped left once, and
wouldn't do anything again.

Changed it back to left-flip wit 'left' only and right flip with 'right'
only, and it left flipped once and then wouldn't budge. I can no pattern
at all.

Back to risking RSI with swapping with hot-keys I guess...

[Compiz] [Bug 773174] Re: Compiz frezes Desktop after upgrading from Maverick

2011-05-01 Thread Axel H.
Yes I can confirm this. I also was able to run Compiz/Unity with
nvidia-173.

So this seems to be nvidia driver related. I'll try to downgrade to
nvidias 260 drivers which were used in Maverick. Maybe this could solve
the issue.

But there are still really nasty bugs in compiz. Like emerald is not
working.

[Compiz] [Bug 771448] Re: desktop wall edge flipping broken

2011-05-01 Thread mitko
This bug also affects me ever since I upgraded to the final version of
Natty. I was using 10.10 before and have not installed any alpha/beta/rc
versions of 11.04 prior to upgrading to the final version.

If it makes a difference I am not using Unity since I prefer the classic
look of Gnome.

Let me know if I can help resolve the sporadic edge flipping behavior as
it is driving me crazy.

[Compiz] [Bug 768275] Re: Compiz effects slow and laggy on Natty with ATI card

2011-05-01 Thread bagl0312
HI Ari,
xorg.conf is not anymore needed since karmic (ubuntu 9.10).
You can just rename it to xorg.conf.back

Indeed xorg.conf may be needed to use proprietary ATI drivers (fglrx).

Please note that following the recipe of my previous post you are using the
open source ATI driver (xserver-xorg-video-ati)
instead of the proprietary one (fglrx), which apparently has problems with
unity.

[Compiz] [Bug 774777] [NEW] KDE Compatibility issue in DockbarX

2011-05-01 Thread AZorin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

There is a bug in the new Compiz version in Ubuntu 11.04 version (in GNOME
classic mode) with the window previews in DockbarX. When I enable the KDE
Compatibility Compiz plugin and enable the window previews in DockbarX the
preview appears behind the popup which is a problem. Here is a screenshot of
the issue: http://goo.gl/ha234
This used to work perfectly in older versions of Compiz and Ubuntu. It's
probably a bug caused by the C++ rewrite of Compiz.
I have notified the developer of DockbarX about this but he said that it is a
bug with Compiz and the only way to fix it is to contact the Compiz developers.

right but when I disable window decorations then moving windows works
smooth as it should. Also any other Compiz operations like scale or expo

2011-05-01 Thread Ame Nomade
Same problem here with a Radeon HD 4770. And I just solved it, like
eundas, in OpenGL plugin in the CompizConfig Settings Manager : when
disabling vsync.

And trust me, the problem is solved but the vsync is not disabled. In
fact it seems that this vsync option was over another one, the driver
one (set in amdcccle), and the both resulting in a very slow display,
even slower than a picture out of two.

[Compiz] [Bug 774744] [NEW] Top Bar Menus/Min-Max-Close buttons missing

2011-05-01 Thread mrmango
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When going into System Settings>CompizConfig Settings Manager, selecting
effects>Reflection. The top bar shows the reflection not the window when
maximise. Additionally when the window has been restored and the
reflection has been switched off, the top bar is back to its original
theme colour (black in this case) and all the context program menus and
system menus like login are not missing. You can select the areas where
the menus would be, but the text for the menu does not appear.
