Yes, something funny happens, I can click once and drag it, but if I
click a second time the gcalctool windows dissappears below the firefox

reproduce it with the instructions in the description. It's still a very

Although I guess this shouldn't happen, I discovered it was caused by
Matlab running out of memory (or the java VM that Matlab uses, anyways),

I'm having the same problem with classic desktop without effects, so I
assume it's not related to compiz, but nVidia drivers.

I experience the same rendering artifacts in two different machines
using Ubuntu Natty (64-bit) with nVidia binary drivers from jockey
(current). One machine has a GeForce 9600GT and the other an 8600GT.

started going to 100% utilization while switching workspaces with the
hotkeys. Sometimes I can go to VTT1 and  kill compiz, other times it is

I had this problem too. I was able to fix it by changing the mouse settings in 
xorg.conf I am using a Logitech G500 mouse.
Use man mousedrv to find the list of valid protocals.

I changed my mouse section too

Section InputDevice
Identifier Mouse0
Driver mouse
Option Protocol Logitech  # was auto
Option Device /dev/psaux
Option Emulate3Buttons no
Option ZAxisMapping 4 5
Option SampleRate 1000  # i added this to take advantage of the 
G500's 1000Hz sample rate
EndSection

The settings applied when I reconnected the mouse.
Also the problem went away when I swapped with a crappy 10 year old microsoft 
mouse.
