[Compiz] [Bug 808677] Re: Failed to activate external monitor (dual monitor mode)

2011-09-22 Thread Jay Taoko
Hello ngsupb

I wasn't running in mirror mode. I was running the monitors as 2
independent surfaces; and moving application windows from one monitor to
the other. This worked well on my system. No glitch or artifacts.

I also want to add that my system has a VGA external output and I used a
VGA cable to connect to the VGA input of the external monitor.

[Compiz] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's "Sync to Vblank" makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-09-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Not sure why it's missing because the new fix is dated earlier than
20110919. Probably just the bzr->git import pulling in dates from bzr
which are older than when the pull actually occurred.

Missing in oneiric:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/oneiric/compiz/oneiric/view/head:/plugins/opengl/src/screen.cpp

But present upstream:
http://git.compiz.org/compiz/core/tree/plugins/opengl/src/screen.cpp

No matter -- the fix exists upstream and should be seen next time
oneiric pulls from upstream compiz.

Right, Sam? :)

[Compiz] [Bug 808677] Re: Failed to activate external monitor (dual monitor mode)

2011-09-22 Thread ngsupb
HI Jay,

thanks for working on it. Just a quick question. Did you use the Mirror
displays option? In mirroring it works fine for me too, but the external
display can't have resolution larger internal's display. That is why you
weren't able to set '1280x1024'.

I can run my external display at the same resolution as internal
(1280x800) in mirroring. But things look too big for '1920x1080'
display:)

Please try to disable the mirroring option to set the external display
separately.

[Compiz] [Bug 808677] Re: Failed to activate external monitor (dual monitor mode)

2011-09-22 Thread Jay Taoko
I have tested with a fresh install of Oneiric on a intel core i3 system.
I cannot reproduce the issue mentioned.

My internal display is resolution is 1280x800 while my external monitor is
1280x1024. The gnome control panel offers the following resolutions for the
external monitor:
 - 1024x768
 - 800x600

I can run in dual monitor config with my internal resolution maxed at
1280x800 and any of the resolutions above for the external monitor.

The control panel used to propose the option to choose the maximum
resolution of my external monitor (1280x1024) but it doesn't do that
anymore. It has been like that for a month or so. Previously, if I had
tried to use the max resolution of the external monitor, things would
become very slow as if running in software. So I suppose the control
panel is more clever now and only offers resolution that can be
supported.

Please, test with a fresh install and a recent version of Oneiric.

One correction... sometimes, alt+1 works as expected and it "switch to
workspace 1". But sometimes it doesn't (and display the list of windows,
somehow like alt+tab). :P

[Compiz] [Bug 856557] Re: graphic glitches upon resume with nvidia/unity

2011-09-22 Thread MFeif
Yeah, sorry, I wanted to use the bug tool, but it's not available via
unity. Or my other launcher, kupfer. Having only used it via gui, I
didn't know the application name on the console.

[Compiz] [Bug 856557] Re: graphic glitches upon resume with nvidia/unity

2011-09-22 Thread MFeif
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 oneiric running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I'm using Oneiric amd64. I've got a GeForce 8600 GTS. See screenshot for
the result after I resume. This is reproducible.

It's not video memory corruption, because if I do a right-click, the
"popup" is clean. Similarly for menus and the like. And, doing a compiz
  --replace takes care of it.

My video drivers are the nvidia proprietary (couldn't even get unity to
run at all with nuveaou) v 280.13 from the Ubuntu feeds.

What else can I offer to help?

[Compiz] [Bug 856310] Re: (oneiric) update manager puts main window on one screen, progress window on another screen

2011-09-22 Thread Steve Langasek
update-manager certainly has no idea about the boundaries between
screens in the output (and architecturally, should not). Maybe it can
be doing a better job of asking the window manager to place its progress
window nearby, but I'm guessing we need this to be handled by the window
manager itself (i.e., compiz). Reassigning.

[Compiz] [Bug 856557] [NEW] graphic glitches upon resume with nvidia/unity

2011-09-22 Thread MFeif
Public bug reported:

I'm using Oneiric amd64. I've got a GeForce 8600 GTS. See screenshot for
the result after I resume. This is reproducible.

It's not video memory corruption, because if I do a right-click, the
"popup" is clean. Similarly for menus and the like. And, doing a compiz
--replace takes care of it.

My video drivers are the nvidia proprietary (couldn't even get unity to
run at all with nuveaou) v 280.13 from the Ubuntu feeds.

What else can I offer to help?

[Compiz] [Bug 856310] [NEW] (oneiric) update manager puts main window on one screen, progress window on another screen

2011-09-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am running Oneiric beta on a laptop with an external monitor. When I
start update-manager, it is displayed on the laptop screen. After
initiating an update, the progress window is displayed in the middle of
the other screen. This is a confusing and unpleasant experience for the
user.

Expected behaviour? The progress window (and any other windows that are
spawned from that app) should appear on the same screen as the main
window for the app.
