[Compiz] [Bug 851345] Re: compiz crashes on i915 graphic module with GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing

2011-10-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
no trace of an out of memory error here, after boot and this error, the
system still has 1.6GB of RAM free and no kernel message that would
suggest a memory failure.

[Compiz] [Bug 862231] Re: Compiz Window Decorator fails on Evolution Compose New Email

2011-10-06 Thread phillamg
Okay, I'm having to change my comments :( This is not fixed :(
It seemed to work briefly yesterday but after a reboot it does not work unless
I have disabled Legacy Fullscreen Support in CCSM.

Added a new screenshot showing no decorations on the compose window and
it taking up the full screen. On the plus side Alt+Tab now works on the
window so I can at least show the terminal and unity panel briefly
above the window.

[Compiz] [Bug 843383] Re: lag in compiz after a short period of idle

2011-10-06 Thread Doug McMahon
I do only see this only in compiz now as per last comment, unity-2d, Gs,
fallback are fine.
Anyway - tracked this down to the performance levels on nvidia card. When
doing certain actions in compiz there is a small lag till the gpu bumps up to
max performance from the lowest setting in the default adaptive mode.

Whether some or all nvidia cards show this small lag don't know,
possibly it's a local hardware issue, don't have any other nvidia
setups around to check. The response time of the card in 11.04 seems to
be the same where I don't see this effect

[Compiz] [Bug 843383] Re: lag in compiz after a short period of idle

2011-10-06 Thread Doug McMahon
Just to note: am judging the 'reported' bump up time from nvidia-setting which
may not be reflective of how quickly the card actually does so.
In unity-2d, Gs 11.04 (compiz 0.8) nvidia-settings reports the same, but
only in 11.10 does this small lag show up.

[Compiz] [Bug 869293] [NEW] Compiz crashed on activating external monitor via nvidia-settings

2011-10-06 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

Compiz crashed when I activated an external monitor using nvidia-
settings. Apport did not notice the crash and there was nothing related
in /var/crash. Neither dmesg nor syslog have any indication of a
segfault. However there are some nasty-looking messages in syslog and
.xsession-errors.

syslog:
Oct 6 11:23:24 steve-laptop gnome-session[1717]: WARNING: Application
'compiz.desktop' killed by signal
Oct 6 11:23:24 steve-laptop gnome-session[1717]: WARNING: App 'compiz.desktop'
respawning too quickly
Oct 6 11:23:24 steve-laptop gnome-session[1717]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the
fail whale is dead. Sorry

.xsession-errors:
compiz (core) - Warn: failed to receive ConfigureNotify event from request at
303489 (now: 661694)

compiz (core) - Warn: unhandled ConfigureNotify on 0x12000a4!
compiz (core) - Warn: this should never happen. you shouldprobably file a bug
about this.
compiz (core) - Warn: failed to receive ConfigureNotify event from request at
287368 (now: 588002)

The crash happened at about 11:23AM (see related timestamps in the
logs).

To reproduce:
1) Boot 11.10
2) Work for a couple hours (optional?)
3) Plug in an external monitor
4) In nvidia-settings, select the second monitor and configure it for 'Twinview'

Actual results:
Compiz crashes and then comes back to life; there is lots of
flickering/flashing and artifacts onscreen for about 10sec, then compiz comes
back to life and the external monitor is enabled correct.y

Expected results:
The external monitor is turned on and enabled without any flashing, crashing,
or artifacts.

nvidia driver version is 280.13-0ubuntu5; graphics card is a GeForce
8600M GT in a Macbook Pro 3,1.

[Compiz] [Bug 824099] Re: Max GL texture size can break multi-head

2011-10-06 Thread Vivek Sekhar
** Description changed:

There's a longstanding issue (see the duplicate bug #555641) with Compiz
and multi-monitor setups with any combined dimension larger than the
maximum GL texture size. It used to be the case that this would simply
crash compiz, but mesa now has code to fallback to software rendering
for those cases. Unfortunately, this rendering is unacceptably slow (on
the order of 10s of seconds per frame), particularly since the only
hardware that will realistically hit this limit is netbook hardware with
the associated anaemic CPU. It also appears to be broken in some cases
(see bug #830949), although I can't reproduce that myself.

The Compiz Copy to Texture plugin can break textures up into = max
texture size chunks, allowing hardware rendering to work with these
large framebuffers. This is insufficient for Unity, though, which also
needs a way to break up its FBOs.

For Oneiric we should patch g-s-d's xrandr plugin to disallow setting a
multi-monitor configuration with any dimension = max texture size when
Unity is running. Additionally, the display capplet should not allow a
resolution to be explicitly set that will break Unity. For P this
should be dropped in favour of enabling Compiz's Copy to Texture
  plugin and fixing Unity.

  String Freeze Exception Request:
This patch adds a new failure mode and explanatory error message to
gnome-desktop's randr handling. This new message is required to explain to the
user why their multi-head setup request has been rejected, and what can be done
about it.

  Original report:
THIS IS A MASTER BUG OF FOUR DIFFERENT BUGS:

  [nVidia] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830955
  [Intel N10] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830949

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830952
  [ATI] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830953

Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on this system. Under testing, one test is to
plug in an external monitor and ensure that external video functions
properly. On this EeePC, it does not. (See photo attached to this
  bug).

Once the external montior is plugged in, both the primary display and
the external display are horribly garbled. The only thing that exists
on the screen that's remotely readable is the panel at the top. The
rest of the desktop area is just a mess.

[Compiz] [Bug 851345] Re: compiz crashes on i915 graphic module with GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing

2011-10-06 Thread Robert Ancell
I saw this for the first time last night. The symptons for me were the
user switching not being visible, and the dmesg log about LightDM
crashing with SIGABRT. Compiz kept running and was usable however. I'm
flying today so I wont be able to investigate it until I get there.

[Compiz] [Bug 857738] Re: compiz crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-10-06 Thread Matthijs ten Kate
I just got this crash when de-maximizing a new Chromium window. I wasn't sure
which bug report to subscribe to, because this bug seems to have a lot of
duplicates / similar reports:
#820013, #852383 and #821312 for example.

[Compiz] [Bug 740767] Re: gtk-window-decorator crashed with SIGSEGV in gwd_get_decor_frame()

2011-10-06 Thread Alan De Smet
Ran into this same problem. I believe Daniel Apostolov (apostolov)'s
post (#27) is what happened. The menu button worked fine. I
experimented with Compiz Fusion Icon. The menu button stopped working.
Resetting the window decorations command fixed the problem

I think this is what just happened to me. Had a LightDM update earlier
and upon restart got the desktop with nautilus' menu across the top.
Have a Radeon mobility card.
