[Compiz] [Bug 882479] Re: [Inspiron N4050, Vostro 1450, Vostro V131] Compiz works unnormally after external VGA connected.

2011-12-13 Thread Tim Chen
I'm not sure if this is same as bug 838128.
Before I started to reproduce this bug, I removed ~/.xsession-errors and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log, then I reproduced the bug, then tried to open
~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but the files were not even created.
So I looked at the /var/log/syslog, what I saw clearly is that every time I
unplug/plug the external monitor cable, I can see the message:
x kernel: [] [drm:pch_irq_handler] *ERROR* PCH poison
interrupt

However I see the same error message as bug 838128 in the old .xsession-
errors I saved.

I can't reproduce this bug but it sounds like bug 886192.

Also I'm a bit concerned about your panel shadow... unless you've been
experimenting with code and can explain that? :)

[Compiz] [Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-12-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes it's very common that people subscribing to bugs all have slightly
different problems. And we should all be aiming to disambiguate the
issues as much as possible.

As stated in comment #53, I think this bug should be specifically about
compiz using high CPU when the screen is "idle". High CPU when doing
something else like moving windows or specific apps should be separate
bugs.

2011-12-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
pazuzuthewise, the slow down is due to new code in ppa:vanvugt/compiz
that's not related to this fix. So you won't see a slow down when the
fix appears in oneiric-updates.

Can you please check what version of compiz you're now running? I
thought I had fixed the slow animation problems in my PPA; compiz
version 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6vv6.

[Compiz] [Bug 904063] [NEW] Problem with multiple class=Desktop windows and Wallpaper plugin/Cube transperancy

2011-12-13 Thread Y. Leretaille
Public bug reported:

Hi, im not sure if this is really bug. I have two windows with the class
"Desktop", nautilus and conky. I use the "wallpaper" plugin.

When I change the cube transparency, for example by initiating workspace
switching, the window that is currently at the top stays visible, but the other
one is "moved" behind the wallpaper provided by the wallpaper plugin. This
means that when I switch to a workspace one of them will disappear and reappear
when the animation is completed. I patched nautilus to allow a transparent
background, otherwise this combination of plugins/applications won't be
possible but this I think the correct behaviour should be to keep all windows
with the Desktop class on top of the wallpaper and not only one. Here are some
images that illustrate the problem:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2300396/static/compiz_problem_1.png

and a video:

  Using 4.24.0 in Oneiric

- It seems that when in Workspace Switcher view, the alt-tab menu isn't
- directing you to an application when selected and the Workspace Switcher
- is not completely deactivated.
+ 1. Open a few windows, lets assume 3
+ 2. press super+s to activate spread
+ 3. press alt+tab and use arrow keys to navigate between application icons

- * open up multiple windows
- * open the Workspace Switcher
- * open alt-tab menu
- * see that navigating through the alt-tab menu with the arrow keys, navigates
through the workspaces as well
- * also: selection of an entry in the alt-tab menu doesn't take you out of the
Workspace Switcher
+ What happens:
+ both alt-tab and WorkSpace spread receives the key presses
+
+ What should happen:
+ only alt-tab switcher should receive the arrow key presses and workspace
switcher should have no effect.

[Compiz] [Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-12-13 Thread Jayson Rowe
I think the biggest problem with this bug is Ubuntu is using Compiz for
it's window manger in Unity - I think almost everyone here is seeing a
slightly different problem, and perhaps, everyone who thinks this bug
affects them is encountering a separate bug. For example, I only saw the
problem when some polling scenario was happening - for example, if I
have a pinned tab in Chrome that gets a notification, causing the tab to
pulsate, instant CPU spike. Perhaps that wasn't the only thing causing
it, but if it wasn't; separate bug (IMHO, anyway).

I'm not experiencing the bug any long because on the affected system, I
reloaded Windows 7. However, I have Ubuntu loaded on an HP Laptop and a
Dell Mini 9 netbook, both running Unity, and neither seem to be affected
by this bug. Compiz is very inconsistent it seems, and I really wish
there were a better solution for the Window Manager in Unity.

[Compiz] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's "Sync to Vblank" makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-12-13 Thread pazuzuthewise
I confirm that the fix from ppa:vanvugt/compiz (it is still not present
in the updates repository, and neither in backports) works under Oneiric
with fglrx 8.881-0ubuntu4.1 using Ati Radeon HD Mobility 3470.

But it seems that it had also a side effect: slowing down (maybe by
increasing the time value?) the animations when opening/closing a
window. This isn't really a problem, since compiz animations can be
safely turned off altogether.

[Compiz] [Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-12-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I believe the issue with gradual performance degradation is best
discussed in bug 770160 or bug 888039.

Yes, npviewer.bin is likely to be the flash plugin. Not related to this
bug.

Also, I've noticed that npviewer.bin tends to have very high CPU usage
when the problem appears. I've understood that this might be related to
flash. Is this correct?

[Compiz] [Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-12-13 Thread Johan Jeppsson
Okay Daniel, I've installed your PPAs. I'll let you know if I see a
difference.

Just to clarify my last post. When I start my computer, I have no
problems whatsoever with viewing videos, switching workspaces, moving
windows. Compiz then uses very little CPU at idle.

After a while, suddenly everything becomes sluggish and the idle CPU
usage shoots through the roof.
