[Compiz] [Bug 1008022] Re: Gnome-panel disappears when switching desktop
Exactly as described, mouse input to workspace switcher on panel fails using gnome-classic and compiz but works using gnome-classic and metacity. As part of failure the panel disappears, but will return if the Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut is used to open a terminal. The returned panel fails the same way if any mouse input to the workspace switcher is attempted. Ctrl+Alt+arrow workspace switching works under all conditions, but windows don't show up correctly in the workspace switcher panel applet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1008022 Title: Gnome-panel disappears when switching desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1008022/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 799104] Re: Wobbly Windows maximise effect triggers on focus
Hi. Sorry for the delay. Here is how I'm able to reproduce this problem: 1) Boot up Ubuntu 12.04 live cd 2) Install CCSM (you'll probably need to update apt sources) 3) Run CCSM disable ubuntu unity plugin and enable wobbly windows. You might need to enable other plugins to make system usable. 4) Restart compiz with 'compiz --replace ccsm' After this once you switch to maximised window it wobbles. My wild guess would be that unity plugin handles header of maximized windows in some custom way and this problem is not visible when it is enabled. I do understand that this means that unity users are not affected, but users of other desktop environments are e.g. xfce and, dare I say, mate. I would really appreciate if you could look into this. [Compiz] [Bug 974242] Re: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will
Just to echo the others: an hour of testing in, and I've nothing but joy to report. This patch makes Compiz/Gnome-Fallback usable. Things behave as you would expect: windows aren't jumping all over the place or getting stuck, and, per the other bug, the panel isn't getting in the way of fullscreen applications. @monjurul@88 it's a bit hectic: sudo apt-get build-dep compiz sudo apt-get install devscripts wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/974242/+attachment/3141645/+files/fix-974242.patch apt-get source compiz cd compiz* # you might want to replace the * patch -p1 < ~/Desktop/fix-974242.patch dpkg-source --commit debuild -us -uc That should dump a whole collection of debs in `..`. After that just install the ones you need with `dpkg -i`. If you're using nvidia (pointedly the xorg-edgers PPA version) you might have problems compiling things that link to /usr/lib/libGL.so* so I just moved those files to my desktop, ran the `debuild -us -uc` command again and after that, moved the libGL files back. The bigger question is, how do we go about nominating this patch for immediate inclusion in Ubuntu so people aren't forced to download half a gig just to compile this in? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974242 Title: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/974242/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
To fix that issue you don't have to disable all the animations. What you need to do is go to Animations in CCSM, choose the "Focus Animation" tab and change the "Focus Effect" from "Dodge" or "Fade" or "Wave" TO "None" or "Not selected". That did the trick for me. All other animations are working well. Not happy with that resolution (i like the Dodge animation) but the blank windows were annoying me much more. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729979 Title: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/729979/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Hi there, If it's any help, I've found that disabling "Animations" from the Effects category in CCSM eliminates the white windows. That is to say, that when maximizing previously minimized windows by using the window switcher (drilling into multiple minimized windows of the same type) no longer brings up a white window. Re-enabling the top level "Animations" check box restores the broken behavior. Hope this helps. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've got a two row - three column virtual desktop setup, and quite often when I switch between two desktop within the same row, the contents of the third desktop is flashed on the screen, as if the switching movement actually went the other way wrapping around the whole desktop border or so. [Compiz] [Bug 760240] Re: Windows maximize on the wrong monitor
What Éric describes seems to match what I see on Precise. I'd like to add that, when I drag a window to the top of the small monitor, the orange highlight indicates that it will be maximised on that (small) monitor, but when I release the mouse, the window jumps to the large monitor. So the code that produces the orange window-will-go- here rectangle behaves how I want, at least. For expected behaviour, I'd agree with Éric, except that if I drag a window to the top, it should maximise to the screen my mouse is on. This is how smaller windows already behave. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760240 Title: Windows maximize on the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/760240/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1002641] Re: after upgrade to 12.04 amd64 Gnome Classic not properly draw second screen
I'm havving allmost the same issue on fresh install of 12.04. Using nvidia-settings I selected "Separate X Screens", saved xorg.conf and rebooted. After I logged in my secondary screen looks like a default X session. A black X as mouse pointer, white background, no menu's. I can't do anything on the secondary screen except moving the X with my mouse :) My guess is that the "Separate X Screens" option in nvidia-settings works for gdm and isn't available (or not yet implemented) in lightdm. I havn't tested this yet, but switching back to gdm should give you separate X screens. Dunno if this impacts Unities behavior. [Compiz] [Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz
I've now tested my experimental XDamageReport changes and found they provide no improvement here. But that's with NVIDIA, and they never did provide much improvement with the NVIDIA driver. Likewise, skipping damage events in unity itself provides no benefit. I did make a startling observation though... If you've never opened the Dash then you will get 10-20% higher frame rates than if you have ever opened the Dash since logging in. That's huge. Looking at the XML file says that its turned on by default. The reason I asked is beacuse the hack basically has no effect if this option is turned off. In any case, I'm pretty sure that part the the original bug I fixed said that if you disabled keeping previews, this didn't happen. (I'd love to deliver a real fix, however I just don't know enough about the driver to understand what its doing that's causing us to lose binding here. According to the tfp documentation you only need to rebind whenever the pixmap becomes invalid, and this is what we do. With "show_minimized_windows" on - the windows nor their frames are not even resized when they are (un)minimized. That being said, its entirely possible that a separate opengl operation is triggering a driver bug causing the pixmap binding to be lost) > Note the white windows on restore only happen with Unity. "Keep previews of mimized windows" is disabled as it is for everyone in 12.04. If you think it should be enabled, then a proposal enabling it should be made. I have now tested enabling it, with standard precise AND with this fix backported to precise. In all cases the white windows persist on restore (using Unity). Note the white windows on restore only happen with Unity. Running the latest lp:compiz without Unity, there are no white window problems. I have not yet tested other combinations, so please don't ask.
[Compiz] [Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz

[Compiz] [Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz
** Description changed: - On my Z600, with a fresh Precise installation, after installing the - NVIDIA driver 295.40 (same version as in gPrecise), glxgears runs - extremely slowly full-screen. When running on Precise, Chrome's GPU - accelerated rendering path produces correct results, albeit extremely - slowly. + The main problem is that OpenGL apps run slower with unityshell compared + to plain compiz (Gnome Classic). + + In extreme cases, running glmark2 under Unity only achieves 0-3 FPS. Yet + on the same machine reports frame rates of several hundred FPS in Gnome + Classic. See comments #28-#30. + + In other cases, game performance is OK but still visibly worse under + Unity. ioquake3 drops in frame rate by around 20% in Unity compared to + plain Compiz in Gnome Classic (see duplicate bug 1005074). + + ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: + On my Z600, with a fresh Precise installation, after installing the NVIDIA driver 295.40 (same version as in gPrecise), glxgears runs extremely slowly full-screen. [Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Hmm, that's strange. I put in a workaround for bug 729979 in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity/trunk/revision/2273 of unity. While it is a workaround, both didrocks and I tested it and it worked for both of us. Daniel, do you have "keep previews of mimized windows" disabled? If so - we should remove the option, it is meant to be on by default, and the only reason I had it as an option was because it wasn't fully polished when it went in.
[Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Sorry, that was premature. Only white window bug 1002602 is definitely fixed. Not this one. Though I suspect we need to divide the duplicates of this bug into a couple of bugs. It's possible some of them might have been fixed with bug 1002602. However I still get white windows when restoring minimized windows using the Unity switcher for example. ** Changed in: compiz Status: Fix Committed => Triaged ** Changed in: compiz-core Milestone: 0.9.7.10 => None -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729979 Title: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/729979/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
