[Compiz] [Bug 1021104] Re: Severe damage artefacts and flickering when using LLVMpipe

2012-08-23 Thread Björn Michaelsen
for the situation in virtualbox setting full redraws on swap certainly
helps, but it does not solve this completely: there is still ~one frame
per second showing something that look like a old/wrong fullscreen
buffer.

[Compiz] [Bug 1021104] Re: Severe damage artefacts and flickering when using LLVMpipe

2012-08-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

  There are severe damage artefacts and flickering when using LLVMpipe.

  The root cause seems to be that LLVMpipe does not support dynamically
switching between rendering methods like compiz does in the opengl plugin:
- glXSwapBuffers
- glXCopySubBufferMESA
- glCopyPixels
+ glXSwapBuffers
+ glXCopySubBufferMESA
+ glCopyPixels
  LLVMpipe _does_ support any of these rendering methods when used alone, but
it doesn't like switching between them dynamically. I've verified they all work
perfectly in LLVMpipe so long as you use the same code path on every frame.

  It appears that glXSwapBuffers is confusing what the other functions
  think is the GL_FRONT and GL_BACK buffer. So either it is implemented
  using a separate GL_FRONT buffer, or glXSwapBuffers is failing to update
  GL_FRONT and GL_BACK. Not sure yet.

  WORKAROUND:
- CCSM Workarounds Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint = ON
+ 1. CCSM Workarounds Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint =
ON
+ 2. Log out and in again.

[Compiz] [Bug 1037453] Re: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression

2012-08-23 Thread Silviu C.
Hello,

Managed to get back nouveau. Had some apt issues because I installed the
previous version of the compiz packs. I can't tell you how well windows
moving was with version 0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.2 but with the latest version
it dragging windows seems smooth. I do get a bit of tearing when moving
windows around. It shows mostly on vertical moves.

With the nvidia driver, this new version of compiz manages to shave off
about 10 fps (compared to the old version) in games I run with Crossover
(wine).

[Compiz] [Bug 966744]

2012-08-23 Thread Chris Wilson
The cause of the EINVAL is an attempt to pageflip with the pipe disabled
due to DPMS off. This should be fixed by:

commit c4eb5528a456b65c673f7c984d14a622ac67cdca
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date:   Tue Jun 5 16:04:16 2012 +0100

uxa: Check for DPMS off before scheduling a WAIT_ON_EVENT

Regression from commit 3f3bde4f0c72f6f31aae322bcdc20b95eade6631
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date:   Thu May 24 11:58:46 2012 +0100

uxa: Only consider an output valid if the kernel reports it attached

When backporting from SNA, a key difference that UXA does not track DPMS
state in its enabled flag and that a DPMS off CRTC is still bound to the
fb. So we do need to rescan the outputs and check that we have a
connector enabled *and* the pipe is running prior to emitting a scanline
wait.

2012-08-23 Thread benmhall
Just to clarify, is this bug fixed in a current/scheduled-for-update
xserver-xorg-video-intel package, or is it only fixed upstream? I'm
currently using xorg-edgers packages to try to avoid the problem but
would like to revert to standard packages if a fix has been released to
stock Ubuntu 12.04.

My apologies in advance if the answer to this question should be obvious
to me somewhere on the launchpad page.

[Compiz] [Bug 1036739] Re: Window management - decouple window minimise and restore/maximise animation timings

2012-08-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package compiz - 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1

---
compiz (1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1) quantal-proposed; urgency=low

  [ Didier Roche ]
  * debian/patches/ubuntu-config.patch:
- refresh with latest trunk
  * debian/*docs:
- remove the TODO copy now removed upstream
  * debian/compiz-plugins.install:
- install stackswitch, trip plugins
  * debian/rules, debian/control:
- remove the compiz gnome-control-center key sedding through metacity.
  Compiz now directly ships them.
- we do not need metacity-common anymore as a build-dep then
  * debian/compiz-gnome.migrations, debian/control:
- build-dep on dh-migrations and ship gconf - gsettings migration file

  [ Matthieu Baerts (matttbe) ]
  * Update apport hook for python3 ; thanks to Edward Donovan (LP: #1013171)

  [ Timo Jyrinki ]
  * New upstream snapshot.
- Fix Compiz crash in movementWindowOnScreen (LP: #1015151)
- Start window decorator when decor plugin starts (LP: #1014461)
- Fixed: Crash in compiz::wall::movementWindowOnScreen (LP: #1015151)
- Don't waste memory leaving /bin/sh running (LP: #1015422)
- Add reliable detection of the compiz bin directory (LP: #1015898)
- Check if the window would actually paint before painting the shadow,
  since it is possible that another plugin could be inhibiting paint of
  the dock   window. (LP: #1012956)
- Don't insert the window into the server list above the window it was
  created above. (LP: #1008020) (LP: #886605)
- makes compiz enhanced zoom and show mouse plugins considerably
  smoother to use (LP: #930783)
- Don't set decoration contexts on undecorated windows, since that
  might be read later and code will assume the window is decorated when
  it isn't. (LP: #1015593)
- Fix potentially unterminated string leading to an uninitialized memory
  read (LP: #1018302)
- Lift the 31/32 character restriction on key names that was causing so
  many warnings. It's now 1024 characters according to glib. (LP: #1018730)
- Don't print the result of BUILD_DEB. It prevents ccsm et al from
  installing. (LP: #1018916)
- Use the XDamage extension more efficiently (the way it was designed to be
  used). This dramatically reduces CPU usage, reduces wakeups, and
  increases frame rates. It also solves at least one observed performance
  bug (LP: #1007299) and probably several more.
- Do the initial work to get libcompizconfig under test. (LP: #990690)
- Add support for initiating window picker in other than nomal mode. For
  now added only the additional 'All windows' picker (LP: #933776)
  (LP: #955035)
- Fixes (LP: #1018602) : An invalid read when using g_variant_iter_loop.
- Don't allow unbinds of textures kept around for animations in any case,
  not just resizing. (LP: #1016366)
- Wait for the server to finish processing requests before doing a bind
  (LP: #1016367)
- Using the next/previous bindings the wall plugin didn't calculate
  correctly the next workspace when it reaches the begin or the end of a
  row of workspaces, so it didn't jump to the next line. (LP: #904205).
- Added the plug-in Stack Window Switcher converted from git to bzr
  (including full history) to Compiz. (LP: #1012205)
- Added the unsupported, but fully working plug-in workspacenames
- Added the plug-in Trip (LP: #1012213)
- Add extra checks to avoid passing an invalid xid to XGetWindowProperty
  which would result in fatal error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter).
  (LP: #1019337)
- Fix crash LP: #1019337 properly this time.
- Added .convert files (for gsettings-data-convert) and a migration python
  script (best for usage with session-migrations) for migrating some compiz
  settings from gconf to gsettings
- Fix CMake error when USER environment variable is not set (LP: #1023772)

  correctly the next workspace when it reaches the begin or the end of a
  row of workspaces, so it didn't jump to the next line. (LP: #904205).
- Added the plug-in Stack Window Switcher converted from git to bzr

I'd also love to know whether we can expect to see this fixed in stock

until this is fixed.

[Compiz] [Bug 1040939] [NEW] Compiz switcher trigger magnifier

2012-08-23 Thread Gael Lafond
Public bug reported:

I notice the following Bug on Ubuntu 12.04, Gnome Classic

1. Setup compiz to use the Magnifier (using the default settings) and any
Switcher (Ring Switcher, Shift Switcher or Static Application Switcher).
2. Bring the switcher, choose a window and press Enter (or Esc to cancel).
3. The Magnifier appear on the screen (with a zoom of 4 levels).

I don't see any clashes in the key bindings between the Magnifier and
the Switcher.

NOTE: The bug do not occur if a mouse button is pressed to choose the
window (or when nothing is pressed, with the Ring Switcher or the
Static Application Switcher).

[Compiz] [Bug 1021104] Re: Severe damage artefacts and flickering when using LLVMpipe

2012-08-23 Thread Rocko
It is more usable with 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1, albeit rather slow.

But the mouse polling doesn't seem to work very well. As I move the
mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and sometimes jumps over
to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm moving a window at the
time, the window vanishes or jumps over to the left or top left as well.
With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, the glitch
happens much more frequently. Is this related to the compiz/llvmpipe
interaction or is this a separate bug?

Same problem here, I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, and NVidia 8600GT. When I try

returns to normal, but without the effect.

Really weird, this is happening with my gnome-terminal too, when I press
the TAB key.

  [ Josselin Mouette ]
  * 01_focus_new_window.patch: new patch from upstream bugzilla.
Correctly focus new windows even when they appear behind an ?^?^?always
on top?^?^? window. Closes: #515577.

  * Rebuild with xz compression for binary packages.

metacity (1:2.34.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Replace Suggests: gnome-themes with Recommends: gnome-themes-standard
since Adwaita is the preferred window manager theme and we want it to be
installed by default.
  * Use strict dependency between metacity/libmetacity-private0a and

  * Bump Build-Depends on libgtk2.0-dev to (= 2.24.0) and libglib2.0-dev to

  * Bump Suggests gnome-control-center to (= 1:3.4.0).
  * Install GSettings schemas and GConf conversion script.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.3.
  * Update Vcs-* URLs.

metacity (1:2.34.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Josselin Mouette ]
  * Depend on gnome-icon-theme. Closes: #638141.

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * Use a strict dependency between metacity and libmetacity-private.
  * Due to incompatible changes in libmetacity-private, which broke reverse
dependencies like compiz, rename the library package to
libmetacity-private0a. Closes: #629310
  * Add Breaks/Replaces: libmetacity-private0 to libmetacity-private0a.
  * Add a lintian override for the package-name-doesnt-match-sonames warning.
  * debian/watch: Track .xz tarballs.

I have the same problem on my new system with Mint Linux 13 using Mate.
I don't think it is a memory issue, i have plenty. When i check my

blanking problem

 mate_bg_crossfade_start: assertion `fade-priv-fading_pixmap != NULL'

I have seen similar bug reports related to the bg_crossfade. Could this
be the culprit?

Bump priority. I'm seeing a flood of duplicates to this now, from

[Compiz] [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white

2012-08-23 Thread Charlson C. Kim
with a little more digging I think it is this mate_bg_crossfade_start
(in ubuntu the same function is gnome_bg_crossfade_start ) IS THE
CULPRIT. There was a variable name change from fading_pixmap to
fading_surface and i guess this did not propagate to some compiz
related code. For someone in the know, looks like it should be an easy
fix.
