[Compiz] [Bug 1045609] [NEW] Open/close window animations are too fast (120ms)
Public bug reported: Something subtle but important happened this week. Compiz 0.9.8.0 was released to quantal and with it comes smoother, faster rendering. This should make for noticeable smoother animations. Unfortunately, the default Ubuntu animations do not take advantage of this. I think they're around 120ms, which is too fast to appreciate. I think this should be changed to something like 250ms, or the upstream default of 200ms. ** Affects: ayatana-design Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: Opinion ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion ** Also affects: ayatana-design Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045609 Title: Open/close window animations are too fast (120ms) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/1045609/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 1004371] Re: "smart" window placement puts windows on top of each other while there is plenty of space
so i had some time on my hands and did a bit more testing. i took a clean ubuntu 12.04 install, ripped out the default compiz (0.9.7.8?) and replaced it with the compiz from onceiric (version 0.9.6). this results in ubuntu 12.04 with only unity 2D available, in which compiz can be enabled and set up for testing. running compiz 0.9.6 under ubuntu 12.04 solves the problem in the smart window placement routine, but of course breaks a lot of other stuff. for other people who want to mess around, break their system and test some stuff: log out, log back in using unity 2D (or classic gnome, or any other manager that does not depend on unity) in a terminal, remove compiz (and unity): sudo apt-get purge compiz* I downloaded the .deb files from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/amd64/ (as my version was 64bit) download the following packages, and install them using sudo dpkg -i package-name-here . the order is important, as they depend on one another libdecoration0 compiz-core compiz-plugins-default compiz-plugins libcompizconfig0 python-central python-compizconfig compizconfig-backend compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-gnome (if they give an error, check the dependencies!) after this you can test compiz 0.9.6 and ccsm under ubuntu 12.04, by running: compiz --replace My guess where things go wrong: in the source of the compiz package (0.9.7.8 vs 0.9.6) the only real difference in the smart placement routine i can find is at line 83 of smart.ccp (plugins/place/src/smart/src/), where the old version (place.cpp, line 968) adds up 4 variables and the new version adds up only 3. i'll keep digging, but it might take a lot of time, as i'm not familiar with the structure of the rest of the compiz code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004371 Title: "smart" window placement puts windows on top of each other while there is plenty of space To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1004371/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1045346] [NEW] Window management, Launcher - The unminimize animation should use the usual "Glide 2" and Fade effects, NOT the "magic lamp" effect
Public bug reported: In the Beta 1 release of 12.10, the unminimize animation has changed to using the "magic lamp" effect. This is incorrect, and this change needs to be reverted to the previous "Glide 2" plus Fade effects. Both visual design and Christian Giordano (who is responsible for Unity animations) and reviewed this change, and request that it be reverted to its previous value. Marking as 'Critical' because this is a very visible user interface regression that needs to be fixed asap. IMPORTANT 2: Do not post anything if you haven't read all comments to verify that your point hasn't been made. If you feel tempted to stop reading because there are too many messages, that is a strong indicator that you shouldn't add even more comments. Developers have a tough time to find anything if you post redundant stuff. So please abstain from doing that. - = Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on large screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a small window somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the cursor all the way up to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why the global menu was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and most windows are maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition there should be an option to switch to the traditional position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users. A commonly suggested solution is: [ ] Global Menu on [ ] Global Menu off [ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only for maximized windows). - Desired change: Implement the 'Enhanced Menu' project for 12.10. This project will address the issue described in this bug and also issues described in the duplicates of this bus. Note this is the 'official' bug that tracks the implementation of this project. [Compiz] [Bug 1045235] Re: Floating point exception (core dumped)
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. OK, let's ignore bug 1012401 because it's a separate bug and unlikely to have a direct causal link to this one. Now, you say the nvidia powermizer issue was new in 12.10. So either: (a) It's not a relevant detail because this bug was against 12.04; or (b) Powermizer is the issue and it actually first appeared in 12.04, not 12.10. [Compiz] [Bug 964788] Re: bad gaming performance when running compiz (nvida gt-240)
Sorry for the confusion. The bug appeared after upgrading (fresh installation) from 11.10 to 12.04 and is still present in 12.10. While this bug is about the performance regression (lack of responsiveness, uneven frame rate), bug 1012401 is about the ghosting rectangle. I've experienced the performance regression only in combination with the square artifact, so it's very possible that it's the same bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964788 Title: bad gaming performance when running compiz (nvida gt-240) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/964788/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
