2012-09-06 Thread Steve McInerney
Unsure if what I'm seeing is the same as pitti or not; but sounds similar.
manually unset "click to focus" via compizsettings/general/focus
click the back button
go forward to the focus page; and 'click to focus' is checked again.

Can't seem to convince things that I really want focus-follows-mouse.

[Compiz] [Bug 1047138] [NEW] ccsm: clicking on Preferences > "Reset to defaults" may have some bad consequences when in a unity session, switching Backends likely even worse.

2012-09-06 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

This bug is filed because ccsm remains a very useful tool for many but at the
current state of the switch to gsettings Again may present less knowledgeable
users with some very poor results.
If this is known & figured to not be a factor shortly then I guess this bug is
invalid.

If not then some consideration could be given to making "Preferences" not
usable until there is any reason to go there rather then let ccsm get another
bad rap.
Test cases:
Create a new user account & log in to ubuntu session
Open ccsm > preferences & do any of the bug title actions, see what happens

[Compiz] [Bug 751605] Re: Multi-monitor - Windows maximize on the wrong monitor

2012-09-06 Thread dmiller309
What's also problematic here is that the window maximize preview is not
on the display that the window ends up maximizing to.

Try this:
1. Put a small display (laptop screen) on the left, and a larger display
(monitor) on the left.
2. Resize a window in the larger display so that it fills the display, but
isn't maximized. It should be larger than the smaller display.
3. Clicking the window's title bar, drag it to the top of the smaller display,
and notice that the maximize preview is on the smaller display.
4. Let up on the cursor, and notice that the window maximizes to the larger
screen.

Then try this:
1. Put one display on the left, and one on the right.
2. Dragging a window by the title bar, move the mouse so that it is to the
right of the border between the 2 screens. The window snap preview will show
the window snapping to the left side of the right screen.
3. Without letting up, continue to drag the window to the right side of the
left monitor. The window snap preview will not move.
4. Let up on the mouse, and notice that the window maximizes to the right half
of the left screen even though the preview is on the left half of the right
screen.

It was suggested in this thread that the desired solution is to "always
maximise on the the monitor that contains the majority of the window at
the moment the user gives the maximise command." I think it would be
more intuitive to always maximize the window to where the maximize
preview is, and make sure that the maximize preview is in the correct
location. For the window maximize/snap preview, the behavior is to
maximize the window based on where the mouse is, not where the majority
of the window is. I suppose you could classify the second example above
as a separate bug, that when you move your mouse between different snap
locations the snap preview doesn't update even though the location that
the window actually maximizes to does.

[Compiz] [Bug 755842] Re: Non-maximized windows which sit on the border of a workspace move when called

2012-09-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Tyler,

I was removing an invalid entry there. This fix for precise is still
queued.

For precise, the fix for this bug is in lp:compiz-plugins-main and will be
available in compiz-plugins-main 0.9.7.4:
   https://launchpad.net/compiz-plugins-main/+milestone/0.9.7.4
Sorry, but no estimate on when that will be. To add to the confusion, Ubuntu
packaging then moves the wall plugin into package "compiz-plugins-main-default"
which has a different version again. And Ubuntu frequently pulls fixes like
this before they're officially marked as released upstream.

To know when this bug is fixed in precise, you should look at the top of this
bug at:
  compiz-plugins-main (Ubuntu) > Precise

likely those won't work in quantal at all).

[Compiz] [Bug 969039] Re: HUD appears when tapping Alt+Left very quickly

2012-09-06 Thread Manuel Schmid
This bug affects me too in an up-to-date Precise installation. I mainly
experience it when I use Alt+Up in Nautilus and it’s completely
reproducable, but only when I let go of the Alt key quickly. It seems
that if I let go of it before the global menu has time to show up, the
HUD is shown. If the global menu has been displayed, it doesn’t show the
HUD and behaves normally.

[Compiz] [Bug 1041169] Re: custom keyboard shortcuts not migrated after upgrade to compiz 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu2

2012-09-06 Thread Edward Donovan
I just duped bug 1046910 to this. Matthew, the reporter, said:

"After upgrading 12.10 beta, I found that my custom maximize (ctrl-
super-up) and minimize (ctrl-super-down) shortcuts weren't working. The
default shortcuts (super-up, super-down) did work, and were reported in
the shortcuts screen (hold super).

Re-applying the shortcuts in the keyboard shortcuts panel didn't fix
them, but disabling them and re-setting them did."

I guess that may be the sort of upgrade case that you are talking about,
Daniel. Thanks.

[Compiz] [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-09-06 Thread yman
The App Menu should be in the Title Bar. When the window is maximized
the Title Bar is merged with the panel so the App Menu would naturally
be merged with the panel.

[Compiz] [Bug 948059] Re: Application menus sometimes rendered hidden

2012-09-06 Thread Tony Espy
apport information

** Description changed:

- After upgrading to 12.04 after Beta-1 was released, I've noticed that
- the right-click text menu in Chromimum is sometime rendered blank, or
- with missing menu items. I'll attach a screen-shot of a corrupt menu
- that was displayed after I selected the URL of this bug and right-
- clicked.
+ Cascading application menus are sometime rendered such that they're
+ hidden behind parent menus.

- Note, I often run chromium with many, many tabs. In this case I had 38
- open tabs.
+ This was initially seen with xchat-gnome when initiating a "private
+ chat" from the user menu ( right-click -> private chat ).

- The version of chromium-browser on my system is:
- 17.0.963.65~r124586-0ubuntu1.
+ I've also seen this same issue recently in chromium-browser when
+ creating a bookmark and selecting the Folder drop-down box.
+
+ I haven't seen the corruption that's shown in the earlier screenshots
+ for chromium-browser and software-center for quite some time now. What
+ I'm seeing now can be seen in the screen shots in comments #4 and #12.

[Compiz] [Bug 948059] [NEW] Right-click text menu ( Cut/Copy/Paste/...) sometimes rendered blank or missing items

2012-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrading to 12.04 after Beta-1 was released, I've noticed that
the right-click text menu in Chromimum is sometime rendered blank, or
with missing menu items. I'll attach a screen-shot of a corrupt menu
that was displayed after I selected the URL of this bug and right-
clicked.

Note, I often run chromium with many, many tabs. In this case I had 38
open tabs.

The version of chromium-browser on my system is:
17.0.963.65~r124586-0ubuntu1.

[Compiz] [Bug 1024869] Re: Compiz crashed, no window borders available, no recovery

2012-09-06 Thread Omer Akram
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Discussed with the desktop team, and this seems to be a wanted feature.
If this could land shortly after beta release, it would be better.

Thanks.

[Compiz] [Bug 755842] Re: Non-maximized windows which sit on the border of a workspace move when called

2012-09-06 Thread Tyler Wagner
Hi Daniel,

Your last comment lists "no longer affects: compiz (Ubuntu
Precise)". However, an updated package doesn't yet exist in precise-
proposed or the standard repositories. Do I misunderstand?

Should we test compiz from Quantal on Precise, or is there a better
solution for those of us trying to use an LTS release? I'm trying to
suppose this internally for an organisation depending on Precise.

Observe on step 6.

Action:
1. Ensure unity is running on a machine with a nvidia GPU using the nvidia
driver
2. Open two windows of the same app (Terminal in this example)
3. Minimize one
4. Click the launcher icon to activate the spread and again click the launcher
icon to deactivate the spread- repeat this a couple of times.
5. When the spread is not active, close the terminal window which is visible on
screen.
6. Now click on launcher terminal icon to bring the minimized window to view. -
Observe.
