[Compiz] [Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2012-09-14 Thread Karl Frisk
OK, so this bug is being closed down. Now, which is the bug to subscribe
to for staying up to date with efforts to fix persistent performance
issues?

Because the problem still exists in 12.10 Quantal beta 1. Moving around
a window makes compiz use 25% and xorg 15% of cpu (Ivy Bridge i7, Intel
Graphics HD 4000).

Is there any plan to include Compiz 0.9.8.0 in Ubuntu precise tree or in

This is a known bug:

The workaround is to avoid to have windows touching desktop edges.

[Compiz] [Bug 741869] Re: Unity/compiz intercepts Super and Alt keypresses from grabbed windows like VMs.

2012-09-14 Thread Hao-Ran Liu
This bug is the main cause for bug 950160.

Super+P is the only way to tell Windows 8 to toggle external display.
It's expected that on new laptops come with Windows 8, BIOS will only
sends out Super+P for the hot key to switch external display, and this
key will not work in Ubuntu.

Super key should not be consumed by Compiz/Unity, if this key is used in
combination with other keys. Compiz/Unity is not the only user of the
super key. gnome-settings-daemon also uses this key for toggling
external display.

This is a design conflict between Compiz/Unity and g-s-d. I would like
to see a real solution worked out. Otherwise, we should let Unity to
handle video-out keycodes, as proposed in

[Compiz] [Bug 1046895] Re: changing theme won't change metacity theme

2012-09-14 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Ignore that, I can reproduce this bug on up-to-date quantal with Unity.
The control-center correctly sets the theme in gsettings, but it seems
that Compiz is still looking for gconf value
(/apps/metacity/general/theme), and changing it makes compiz change the
theme.

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Package changed: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) => compiz (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- changing theme won't change metacity theme
+ Compiz should use gsettings for decorator theme

** Description changed:

- Changing the standard theme from Ambiance to Radiance does not affect
- the gconf key "/apps/metacity/general/theme". It is still "Ambiance"
- while other parts (GTK+ stuff and so on) changed to "Radiance".
+ Steps to reproduce:
+
+ - Run Ubuntu quantal with Unity
+ - Open the System Settings, go to "Appearance" panel
+ - Set theme to "Radiance"
+
+ Expected: window decorations should change to use "Radiance" style
+ (light one).
+
+ Got instead: the Gtk theme is updated, but window decorations are still
+ using "Ambiance" style.
+
+ How to fix: Compiz should read the decorator theme from GSettings
+ (org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences:theme), not from gconf.

[Compiz] [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-09-14 Thread Kenny Woo
Why is solving this issue so hard? Why cannot the developer give user
configuration options?

JUST GIVE US AN OPTION TO SHOW THE DAMN GLOBAL MENU ALL THE TIME!

Novice Designer Mistakes

Changing shit for the sake of changing it.
Hiding necessary elements for a "minimalist" look aka sacrificing usability for
looks.
Failing to understand that a cohesive design and user experience is more
important than a group of diverse customized designs and experiences clumped
together.
Falling in love with your design and not letting anyone experience it in a way
that is different from your vision (aka customizing it)

[Compiz] [Bug 1050796] Re: Double shortcuts conflict with gnome-control-center ones

2012-09-14 Thread Timo Jyrinki
** Description changed:

As of 0.9.8.2, there are still two conflicting shortcut keys for "Launch
terminal" shortcut (see bug #1040081) and the screenshot related
shortcuts. The conflicts come from gnome-control-center-data's
01-screenshot.xml and 01-launchers, which have similar entries as 50
  -compiz-launchers.xml and 50-compiz-screenshot.xml.

(it seems, though, that the keys for both duplicates work now)
+
+ The suggestion would seem to be using the system ones instead of
+ org.compiz.integrated ones.

** Description changed:

As of 0.9.8.2, there are still two conflicting shortcut keys for "Launch
