There may be a compiz problem somewhere here, which is why it's still mentioned at the top of the bug. Re: [Compiz] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_rend
In a previous post i asserted that turning off gnome-screensaver stops these crashes from happening. This turns out not to be the case. Unfortunately, I am having trouble capturing an xtrace of the crash -- it almost seems as if xtrace itself somehow protects the driver from the crash! -- anyway, I'm finding that I can sometimes recover from the crash by switching to VT1 and running DISPLAY=:0 unity DISPLAY=:0 xtrace compiz --replace > ~/trace.txt But usually I'll end up with some problems, like all window management being switched off so that it seems as though compiz isn't running at all. And sometimes this attempt at recovery will fail almost completely, in that I just end up with an unchanging image of my desktop wallpaper (sometimes the active windows will flash briefly when I switch to VT7, then disappear behind the wallpaper. I'm really not sure what the next steps in diagnosis are, htough I'll keep trying to capture an xtrace. This is on a Lenovo Thikpad T410, wiht intel graphics & (of course) the i965 driver. [Compiz] [Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)
Time for a status update: We know that there is a workaround that if you start g-s-d after compiz starts, you _can_ use super+p to switch the monitor. We're not sure if this is the way it was done in 11.10 and if that's why it works in 11.10 but not in 12.04. However, the easiest fix is probably to make sure that g-s-d is started after compiz in whatever application starts both. [Compiz] [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces
Thank you for your reply. I had already read the whole thread including comments #111 and #132. I also had already installed your 0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1vvpreproposed2 Compiz version but I suffered too much from bug #1011923 (white menus). I therefore came back to the last Compiz version available in precise but I got rid of the Cube and Cube Rotation plugins to only work with Viewports. This is presently the less buggy way I have found to work with Compiz. I however did not find a way to send a window in another viewport just using keyboard shortcuts. It is a bit boring to use the mouse for such a simple task, but that is not a drama. I had worked with Compiz for several years (Berryl, Compiz, and Compiz Fusion) but I stopped using it about one year ago because it had become too bugged for my taste. I tried several desktops for months but none gave me all the features that I was looking for. I guess I had been too spoiled with Compiz :-) I tried Compiz again this summer but I was very disappointed. Your answer and what I saw during the last couple of Months give me hope back. I am happily surprised that there are only 3 regression bugs left for the correction of the bug described in this thread. If I remember well, there were a dozen of them in August. I must say that I am amazed by the Compiz team and by yourself for the number of bugs that had been corrected during the last couple of months for Compiz 0.9.8, period over which I have followed this thread. Anton, I see you are using the fglrx driver. Does your video card support the radeon driver? If you're not sure, then please try: 1. Run: jockey-gtk 2. Remove the ATI/AMD driver(s) 3. Reboot Then if you find that's no better, do this: 1. Run: jockey-gtk 2. Re-install the ATI/AMD driver. ** Also affects: compiz Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Low GUI performance, high CPU consuming + [fglrx] Low GUI performance, high CPU consuming ** Tags added: performance ** Changed in: compiz Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1051831 Title: [fglrx] Low GUI performance, high CPU consuming To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1051831/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
