[Compiz] [Bug 1102813] [NEW] Expo orange selection rectangle is wrong size/position for multiple monitors

2013-01-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Expo orange selection rectangle is wrong size/position for multiple
monitors.

This is mainly noticeable if your primary (small laptop) display is on
the right and secondary (large TV) on the left. When in expo mode, the
orange selection rectangle is only the size of the small laptop display
but drawn over the larger TV region on the left.

Screenshot attached. This is from raring, however the raring machine in
question has network issues and is failing to connect to launchpad right
now.

[Compiz] [Bug 1102210] Re: Expo hotkey does not work

2013-01-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually we do need #1. I'm running compiz trunk (r3570) and Super+E is
working just fine.

Remember the combo is Super+E for plain compiz and Super+S if using the
Ubuntu package.

Hmm, actually apport-collect won't help if you're compiling compiz
yourself. If you are compiling compiz yourself then please just change
the status back to New.

I assume you mean Super+S or Super+E?

Also
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1102210
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and
the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality

[Compiz] [Bug 1091243] [NEW] ctrl-alt shortcuts unreliable

2013-01-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This happens to me on several laptops and precise, quantal, and raring.

When I hit ctrl-alt-l to lock the screen, or ctrl-alt-t to start a
terminal, i frequently have to hit it several times before it happens.

This is particularly bad for locking the screen. If I'm getting up in a
hurry, it's not good to have to keep looking at the screen to see if it
has locked like I asked it to.

2013-01-21 Thread Andrey Gelman
Well ... Yes.
1. Do not forget to 'half-maximize' the gnome-terminal window -
Ctrl-Alt-KP8.
2. Looks like, on the wrong desktop, the window will not be focused.
3. Attach a screenshot of 'jumped' window.

[Compiz] [Bug 1100999] Re: xfce4 panel covers myth-frontend video playback window

2013-01-21 Thread Alistair Buxton
I noticed that some other stuff is covering mythtv, such as
notifications (I use Ubuntu notification stack under XFCE because it
looks nicer). So this might not be specific to xfce4-panel, in which
case it is compiz. But I'm not sure why the same notifications don't
cover mythtv under gnome classic session.

Re: [Compiz] [Bug 868423] Re: Launcher - Workspace switcher should not be in the Launcher by default

2013-01-21 Thread Dražen Lučanin
I also think that one of the reasons why this was potentially
confusing to new users (and should therefore be targeted for
improvement instead of just tucking the icon away) is the static
nature of Unity's worspace switcher icon - the switcher icon back in
Gnome classic (in the bottom panel) indicated the desktop that's
currently active and even showed small icons representing some
applications (sort of like a small cheat sheet - "ah, my calculator is
to the right"). A person could even move apps between workspaces by
moving icons from there without opening to the expose.

If such an icon was added to the indicator applets in Unity or the new
launcher icon somehow improved to change dynamically, maybe the
feature wouldn't seem so daunting to new users. As an additional bonus
it would bring joy to old users.

[Compiz] [Bug 1089246] Re: Add support for blacklisting some drivers from using unredirected fullscreen windows

2013-01-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

Note: the blacklisting is only needed on precise. If/when included in
quantal, it doesn't do anything practical since the blacklisting default
  only blacklists Mesa 8.0 drivers.

  [Impact]

Some drivers can be broken when using unredirect fullscreen windows. For
those drivers, there has to be a way to disable this feature.

- For Quantal: although currently for quantal there are no drivers that
- are to be blacklisted and theoretically this feature is not needed
- there. But we still think that this branch needs to be included as an
- SRU for quantal. The main reason is that without it, backporting fixes
- from trunk will become much more complicated, as most branches will have
- to be modified additionally. The feature itself is tested not to have
- any regression potential.

  [Test Case]

No clear test case, one possibility is to:
  1. Start a system running on one of the blacklisted drivers (noveu, Intel).
-> Make sure unredirect fullscreen windows is not running

  [Regression Potential]

Not working unredirect fullscreen windows on all drivers.

[Compiz] [Bug 751605] Re: Multi-monitor - Windows maximize on the wrong monitor

2013-01-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Have a multi-monitor environment ready
+ 2. Open a terminal window
+ 3. Move the window to be in-between two monitors
+ 4. Maximize the window
+-> Make sure the window gets maximized on the correct monitor - the one
that has most of the window.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Windows that are too big to fit a given screen can still get the window
+ maximized.
+
+ Original description:
+
For windows maximizing on the wrong workspace, see bug 776435 instead.

  Binary package hint: unity

I have a notebook, using it with an external monitor attached to it in a
dual-screen setup (See attached screenshots, the little screen is that
of the notebook, the large screen is that of the external monitor
attached to the top of the notebook's screen.

If I maximize windows, two things go wrong:

  1) the maximized windows always end up on the large screen, all the same if
it was originally on the smaller one.
  2) their top window-frame-bar (containing the minimize-maximize-close
buttons) ends up on the top of the small screen.

See screenshots: Screenshot-1 is showing the situation before
maximizing, Screenshot-2 shows the situation after maximizing.

I am not 100% sure, but I guess this is only this way since my last
  natty update.

  -
  Desired Solution:

  - When a user maximises a window, the window should always maximise on
the the monitor that contains the majority of the window at the moment
the user gives the maximise command.

+
+ For Quantal: although currently for quantal there are no drivers that
+ are to be blacklisted and theoretically this feature is not needed
+ there. But we still think that this branch needs to be included as an
+ SRU for quantal. The main reason is that without it, backporting fixes
+ from trunk will become much more complicated, as most branches will have
+ to be modified additionally. The feature itself is tested not to have
+ any regression potential.

  [Test Case]

No clear test case, one possibility is to:
  1. Start a system running on one of the blacklisted drivers (noveu, Intel).
-> Make sure unredirect fullscreen windows is not running

  [Regression Potential]

Not working unredirect fullscreen windows on all drivers.

  Original description:

Add support for blacklisting some drivers from using unredirected
  fullscreen windows.

This is a prerequisite before we can resolve bug 1063690 on precise.
