[Compiz] [Bug 713504] Re: compiz fails to run with "GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing"

2011-03-29 Thread Barry Drake
Using Natty yesterday's build running from liveCD. No graphics drivers
are offered for this motherboard - they are provided on 10.10. Do you
want me to report this as a 'lack of driver' problem - if so where
please?

[Compiz] [Bug 713504] Re: compiz fails to run with "GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing"

2011-03-10 Thread Barry Drake
Have installed Natty on a hard drive on this machine - get the SAME error when
running. Run defaults to gnome desktop. Trying to re-start Unity says that
compiz fails with the above. Alpha 3 release version even after installing
updates as at today. Got the following when trying:
barry@barry-desktop:~$ unity

Tried to use 'ubuntu-bug compiz' which sent information but then Firefox failed
with the above related error. Same ISO installs and runs on a different PC.

[Compiz] [Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus & window titles missing

2011-02-08 Thread Barry Drake
Don't know where to run with this. Tried all the different computers I
have in my house. A Dell Inspiron Laptop gave exactly the same result
as the above. An older PC I have ( I can get the hardware spec if it
will help) boots up just fine, and presents me with the Gnome desktop.
If I try to run Unity (neither Unity nor Compiz are running) ... if I
try to run Unity from the terminal, it gives a fatal error when trying
to start Compiz.

It gets worse. I have access to my wife's PC. Fairly modern - around
two years old. Again I can get the hardware details if required. It is
currently running 10.04 perfectly well. It will not boot into the
liveCD - it fails during boot with the error (intramfs) stin: I/O error
mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: no such
device

I tried 11.10 and this gives the same error while booting the liveCD.

I'm a bit worried - four computers in one household, and none of them
can boot Natty properly!

2011-02-05 Thread Barry Drake
Thanks. I guess there's no workaround to this? Can you point me to any
useful information here? Can't do much about the hardware as the video
in onboard on my mobo. This is going to affect a fair number of users,
I would have thought?

[Compiz] [Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus & window titles missing

2011-02-05 Thread Barry Drake
I originally reported this bug on #693073. My technical details are
posted under that bug. I find the problem got a lot worse with
yesterday's Alpha 2 image. Compiz crashes randomly. Clicking on the
top right Ubuntu icon gives me a black nautilus window with no contents
menus or anything else active. This crashes Compiz if I try to do
anything with it. Nautilus opened from the 'file manager' icon on the
sidebar works properly I tried to run ubuntu-bug compiz from the
terminal, but lost it. Will try again!

[Compiz] [Bug 693073] Re: Panel and application Menus working but not visible

2011-02-05 Thread Barry Drake
The problem has become a lot worse for me in yesterday's image of Natty
Alpha 2. Compiz has crashed on several occasions and left me no way out
other than powering off. When I click on the Ubuntu icon (top left
panel), I get a black window with no contents - I think Nautilus has
locked although the file manager icon on the sidebar works. Gnome panel
menus don't work at all until I have successfully run an app like
Firefox. The whole process has become so random that I am at a loss to
know how to report it usefully. Sorry!
