[Compiz] [Bug 600867] Re: Compiz fails to load when screen width == maxTextureSize

2011-05-31 Thread Brian Starkey
I'm afraid I have got a new system (with an nVidia card) so won't be
able to do any more testing on this bug.

[Compiz] [Bug 428769] Re: compiz starts with a blank screen on a 2048x1152 monitor due to hw limit with textures > 2048

2010-11-14 Thread Brian Starkey
OK Sorry about that, I just did a clean install of 10.10, and it works.
Happy Days :)

[Compiz] [Bug 428769] Re: compiz starts with a blank screen on a 2048x1152 monitor due to hw limit with textures > 2048

2010-11-13 Thread Brian Starkey
This is not a bug fix (in my opinion) it is a workaround which is just covering
up the real problem.
I am unable to start Compiz on a 945 with 2048*1152 resolution presumably
because of this 'fix'.
As the max texture size is 2048*2048, Compiz should be able to run with this
resolution, it does not exceed the max texture size. What is the real issue
here, has the cause been identified?

Yes, I agree with you. The > is not a bug in itself, but a workaround
which should not be used as it cripples people with non-intel cards.

The > check is apparently NOT fine for Intel graphics. I haven't tried
compiling your fix myself yet (going to try this weekend, never built a module
before :-/), but Bug #428769 reports that when > is used, you get a blank
screen (with possibly one visible column of pixels).
Intel graphics with 2048 wide screens is presumably becoming a very common
setup, and I don't understand why Compiz shouldn't work on it.

2010-11-12 Thread Brian Starkey
I have this on an intel 945GM card.
I think the >= check was added due to Bug #428769, but why is this necessary?
If my max texture size is 2048, why can't I use a 2048 resolution?
