[Compiz] [Bug 1414540] [NEW] compiz does not swallow mousewheel hotkeys properly when dealing with smooth scrolling

2015-01-25 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

When dealing with high-resolution smooth scrolling devices, e.g. some Logitech
mice after being configured with Solaar, and scrolling on touchpads, Compiz's
scroll-based hotkeys are not properly isolated from Gtk+3 applications.

For example, in Gtk3 nautilus, try using Super+Scroll or Alt+Scroll to zoom
in/out or change the window opacity, while the cursor rests above a scrollable
area. Notice that doing that with a normal mouse properly swallows the scroll
events so that they don't hit the Nautilus window, but compiz does not do the
same for smooth-scrolling devices.

[Compiz] [Bug 1376084] [NEW] Maximizing windows by alt+dragging to top moves window to the above workspace

2014-09-30 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

  affects ubuntu/compiz
  affects ubuntu/trusty/compiz

If you overshoot the top of the screen, when moving the window to the top (as
can happen when you do this quickly and crash your cursor into the top of the
screen), your window maximizes in the workspace above.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a gnome-terminal.
2. Place the gnome-terminal window in the center of your screen. (80x23 seems
   like a good size)
3. Move your mouse to the middle of the gnome-terminal window.
4. Alt+click the gnome-terminal window and hold. Your cursor should switch to
   the move cursor
5. Drag the window up to the top of the screen.
6. While holding the window, attempt to overshoot a bit past the top of the
screen. Your cursor will stay at the top of the screen, as will the window.
   This is correct so far.
7. Let go of the mouse button. The gnome-terminal window now maximizes in the
workspace above (or below, if it's wrapped around).

[Compiz] [Bug 1308402] [NEW] [regression] Mouse hotbuttons broken on non-topmost windows

2014-04-16 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

On windows that are not topmost, or at least not the topmost window
after "Always On Top" windows, scrollwheel based hotkeys do not work,
for example, Alt+wheel for changing window opacity, or Super+wheel for
zooming in/out.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a nautilus window. Leave it unmaximized.
2. Open another nautilus window. Leave it unmaximized as well.
3. Click on the second window to make sure it's raised.
4. Move mouse over the second window, and use Super+ScrollUp to zoom in using
the ezoom plugin (this should work, otherwise check to make sure the ezoom
plugin is enabled). Zoom back out (Super+ScrollDown) when you have verified
that this works.
5. Move mouse over the first window, but do not click it, and leave it below
the second window.
6. Attempt to use Super+ScrollUp to zoom in. Notice that it doesn't work.
7. Click on the first window to raise it, then Try step 6 again. Notice that
it works now.

Additional steps with always-on-top window:
8. Click on the second window again to raise it.
9. Right click on the window title bar and enable the "Always on top" option.
10. Click on the first window. The second window should remain on top.
11. Attempt step 6 again. Notice that the hotbutton works now.

Hotbuttons verified not to work:
1. Super+Scroll for zooming
2. Alt+Scroll for changing opacity
3. Ctrl+Alt+Scroll for changing desktop (this is a local customization)

[Compiz] [Bug 1293081] [NEW] black screen or frozen screen after a change in multihead configuration

2014-03-16 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

When changing the multihead configuration, typically when plugging in or
unplugging an external monitor with a non-mirrored configuration, the
screen freezes and I have to kill compiz to get the screen to display
properly again. Compiz itself is not frozen, because compiz hotkeys seem

This can't really be done for Banshee yet because there aren't gsettings-sharp

[Compiz] [Bug 985383] [NEW] Compiz does not swallow bound xinput2 scroll events

2012-04-18 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

  affects ubuntu/compiz

Steps to reproduce:
1. Position pointer over an application that supports xinput2 scroll events,
e.g. a Gtk3 application using GtkScrolledWindow, such as the gnome-system-
   monitor, or nautilus (the sidepane)

2. Hold down super and scroll up to activate ezoom's zooming in.

Expected results (pre-GDK_SMOOTH_SCROLL):
Screen zooms in, and widget under the pointer does not respond until the Super
key is released.

Actual Result:
Screen zooms in, but the widget underneath the pointer also scrolls up.

[Compiz] [Bug 913155] Re: Banshee locks to top lef of screen

2012-01-07 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Reassigning to compiz and confirming. I've seen this issue before.
What's happening is that the window is being positioned at 0,0, i.e. the
top left of the screen, and the titlebar is behind the panel. You can
use Alt+Click on the window to grab the window and move it around.
(Using Alt+Click, you don't need to click on the window titlebar to move
the window).

A fairly standard way of reproducing this for me is the position of
nautilus windows directly after "unity --replace"

[Compiz] [Bug 901086] [NEW] Compiz screenshot plugin takes screenshots with a fixed transparency in png

2011-12-06 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

When using the screenshot plugin from Compiz (Super+Mouse1), generated
screenshots in png format are translucent. The screenshot can be fixed by
removing the alpha channel or otherwise converting it to jpg format.

A sample of the said screenshot is attached.

This bug is fixed though. Alt+Click does raise the window, and I have been using
focus-follows-mouse since Natty. If not, you can configure both Raise Window and
Move Window to Alt+Button1 in ccsm, and click "Set keybinding anyway" or
something like that when the dialogue about the key binding conflict arises.
Then Alt+Click will do both things. This was the workaround I used in Maverick
before the bug got fixed.

[Compiz] [Bug 875672] Re: Banshee window isn't raised when clicking on it in the sound menu

2011-10-16 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I think it's most likely a focus-prevention issue in Compiz. Try
lowering it using CompizConfig Settings Manager, under General Options →
Focus & Raise Behaviour → Focus Prevention Level.

I'm not sure exactly what each level means, but on the higher levels,
windows that attempt to raise themselves are forced into demands-
attention mode instead.

[Compiz] [Bug 773428] Re: When Opening Banshee from the Sound Menu it is raised but not focused.

2011-04-30 Thread Chow Loong Jin
No, this is a compiz issue. Focusing and raising windows are done by
Compiz entirely. As far as I know, an application can only request for
attention by setting some WM property. Then the window manager decides
what to do with it.

1. Start compiz/log in in single monitor mode
2. Plug in a monitor.
3. Let Compiz settle after reconfiguring the display layout.
4. Using the wall plugin, with live previews enabled, switch to the next
workspace, and notice that the proportion has been updated to the multihead
proportion.
5. Unplug the monitor and let Compiz settle again.

[Compiz] [Bug 684731] [NEW] Windows that hide themselves when closed don't appear in any "this workspace" switcher

2010-12-03 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

  affects ubuntu/compiz
  assignee smspillaz

When opening and closing a window just after starting Compiz, some windows end
up not appearing in any per-workspace switcher, including the Scale, Static
Application Switcher, and Ring Switcher.

1. Restart compiz.
2. Start Banshee
3. Activate "Toggle scale for current workspace/output", and notice that
Banshee's window is selectable here
4. Close its window (it doesn't quit because it stays in the Sound Menu)
5. Reopen Banshee's window via the Sound Menu or any other way
6. Repeat step #3, notice that this time, Banshee's window is gone.

The same goes for Liferea and Pidgin's buddy list windows. The common factor
here seems to be that the windows affected are windows that can be closed
(Alt+F4/press the "x") and reopened without the application quitting. This seems
to be a regression from a fairly recent change in git, as I haven't noticed this
issue before.

[Compiz] [Bug 671280] Re: [compiz++] Poor performance

An update: the jerky animations seem to appear with sync-to-vblank
enabled and not waiting for one animation to finish before triggering
the next one, e.g. switching workspaces or windows immediately after a
window is closed. If I let the animation completely settle before
triggering the next action, it isn't jerky.

As for the performance with sync-to-vblank off, animations all happen in
slow motion.

[Compiz] [Bug 671459] [NEW] [compiz++] Compiz sometimes loses focus when closing some windows

2010-11-05 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

With compiz++, closing certain windows can cause focus to be completely
lost, such that even Compiz's keybindings do not work until clicking on
another window.

Currently the only consistent way I have been able to reproduce it is
using Pidgin, by bringing the buddy list to the top via a keybinding in
Compiz and this command: dbus-send --session
--dest=im.pidgin.purple.PurpleService --print-reply
/im/pidgin/purple/PurpleObject
im.pidgin.purple.PurpleInterace.PurpleBlistSetVisible int32:1

What happens is:-
1. Press keybinding
2. Pidgin's window appears on top of everything, but unfocused, and demanding
attention (focus prevention = normal)
3. Use the "Activate Demanding Attention Window" action from Extra WM Actions
4. Pidgin is now focused. Press Alt+F4 to get rid of it.
5. Focus is now completely lost, and none of Compiz's keybindings work until
clicking on a window to bring focus to it.

Further experimentation has shown that Pidgin's buddy list window is the
only one which appears on top even when not focused, and I think this
may be related to why focus is lost when closing this window.

[Compiz] [Bug 671283] [NEW] [compiz++] Conky's window gets mapped out of the screen

2010-11-04 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

With compiz++ built from git, Conky gets mapped out of the screen when
started after Compiz. When skip_taskbar is not set in conkyrc, then it
comes down from the upper right region, as if from another workspace.
When sticky is not set in conkyrc, it is also possible to move the
window back into position.

A related issue is that some new windows, e.g. Evince windows get mapped
partially off-screen.

This behaviour is consistent, and 100% reproducible.

[Compiz] [Bug 671281] [NEW] [compiz++] Gtk-window-decorator from git does not update title and font colour for active/inactive state

2010-11-04 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When using compiz++ compiled from git using the build_compiz++ script
which is also from git, the window title bar does not update at all.
There are two symptoms here:-

- When switching between windows, the inactive window still looks like it is
active, and the active window still looks like it is inactive.
- When the window title changes, e.g. from switching tabs in Firefox or Pidgin,
it does not get updated by gtk-window-decorator, so the old title sticks.

Maximizing or resizing the window makes the title update, but moving the
window around does not, so it does not seem to be a damage issue.

[Compiz] [Bug 671280] [NEW] [compiz++] Poor performance

2010-11-04 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

With Compiz++ compiled from git with the build_compiz++ script,
animations are very jerky with sync-to-vblank enabled on Intel hardware.

With sync-to-vblank disabled, animations get even jerkier, and there are
artifacts from Firefox 4.0's tabs when switching tabs. Specifically,
when you click on an inactive tab, the tab still looks like it's being
hovered upon, rather than active. The previously active, but now
inactive tab looks like it is still active until you move your mouse
over it, whereby it switches to its inactive state.

None of these issues appear with Compiz 0.8.6
