[Compiz] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
This report was already getting too big for Launchpad to handle quickly, and is all marked fixed. In these cases I'm usually advised to leave the closed report as it is, and handle the new occurrence with the new bug. You can certainly put a link to this bug, there, for informational purposes. Maybe I can get to that. Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013171 Title: Many package hooks not ported to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1013171/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1178098] [NEW] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::WindowCompositor::SetKeyFocusArea()
Public bug reported: Not sure if I should go ahead and change this to a nux bug, instead of compiz, from the stacktrace. But I'm sure those who know better will sort that out easily. I opened the dash, via the keyboard, then opened a preview of a file, also via the keyboard (the menu key). I wanted to open the folder the file was in, rather than the file directly. So in the preview, I tried to keyboard-navigate to do that. I tried a few keys, like Tab and Shift-Tab. I can't recall what key I hit first; I couldn't tell for several seconds that compiz had locked up, and I was trying a few different keys. I haven't tried reproducing yet, 'cause I've barely got time to write this up; no time to trigger another crash. (An aside: I know compiz will be supported in LTS releases for a while, but still I'm not sure how much attention may go to compiz issues, now that it's deprecated for a future of Mir. Any comment on bugs like this, in general, is welcome.) Thanks! [Compiz] [Bug 989588] Re: update-manager popup is shown on launcher and alt-tab list but window doesn't show up
I just experienced this in Raring. Only one X session running, so it didn't need that two-user scenario. In this case, choosing Quit from the quicklist is having no effect. The update-manager process remains, and the Launcher and the alt-tab switcher still act as if there's an open window. I notice now that window isn't attached to any of the virtual desktops. Maybe that's been true all along, and I've just realized it. I have the standard four virtual desktops, and on all of them, the Launcher shows the hollow or outline pip for open, but not on this desktop. Similarly, on all of the desktops, plain alt-tab doesn't show update- manager among the open windows. But Control-alt-tab, showing windows from all desktops, always includes it. Selecting it from this list has no effect, just like selecting it from the Launcher. Hm. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989588 Title: update-manager popup is shown on launcher and alt-tab list but window doesn't show up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/989588/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 1059347] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV after selecting 'KDE compaitibility' in CCSM, while running Unity
I don't know, Marius, it just came up for me, as usual. Compiz was gone, and I did have to click 'Relaunch' on the apport window, to get a window manager again. But it sounds like you didn't even get to that point. I guess you could check whether you have a ~/.apport-ignore file, just in case. Ok, from learning some more, I think we're experiencing bug 1054074. And it's marked Fix Committed, so that's good. [Compiz] [Bug 1059347] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV after selecting 'KDE compaitibility' in CCSM, while running Unity
Ah, I see I actually have some versions that are too new. I was running xorg-edgers PPA for a while, and I guess the PPA purge that I did wasn't good enough. It would be good if one of us generated a good crash report; I'll see if I can tomorrow. Since this didn't work, I'll undupe your report; at least until we get a core dump to trace. I do think these crashes are best assigned to compiz, not Unity, so I'll change the assignement on that. [Compiz] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render()
For the folks in comments 260-263: this bug is just about these symptoms under Intel video hardware. You all mention nvidia or radeon,,so that's different . (It doesn't matter if it's an Intel CPU.) With hundreds of posts here, you may not have seen what Daniel wrote in #196 : Hi all. We need to be focussed and specific or else bugs like this never get resolved. Since all the stacks I have seen so far have been identical hangs in i965_dri.so, I have now clarified that this is an Intel graphics driver bug. Although a workaround in compiz might still be possible. If you're not using Intel graphics, please log a new bug. [...] Or there may be similar bugs filed about those drivers. I'm sorry I can't point you to them right now. And if there is a compiz workaround, that might help you, so subscribe to this bug if you want. But reporting information about non-Intel video will unfortunately just clog this bug, not help it. I guess I'll put some form of that information into the main description, since seeing [i965] in the title isn't going to clarify that for everybody. And if we know other bugs to subscribe to, for other hardware, we might mention them there, too. [Compiz] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render()
** Description changed: + This bug is about problems after resume, with Intel video hardware and + i965_dri.so. If you're having these symptoms with other hardware, + Nvidia or ATI/Radeon, this isn't the place for reports or questions. + + [Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people + to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.] + + + This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it. After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to start over again to get it all functioning properly. I just duped bug 1046910 to this. Matthew, the reporter, said: After upgrading 12.10 beta, I found that my custom maximize (ctrl- super-up) and minimize (ctrl-super-down) shortcuts weren't working. The default shortcuts (super-up, super-down) did work, and were reported in the shortcuts screen (hold super). [Compiz] [Bug 1040081] Re: [regression] Week 34: Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut (open terminal) fails to work
Allow me to repeat what I said in one of the dupes: I went through the changelogs, of the update where this bug arrived. This seems the most likely part: gnome-settings-daemon (3.4.2-0ubuntu9) quantal-proposed; urgency=low debian/patches/revert_git_use_gsetting_keybindings.patch: - drop the gconf to gsettings migration reverts (LP: #1035261) I've tested it, and you can see this bug come and go, switching between versions 0ubuntu8 and 0ubuntu9. So it looks like g-s-d is the place to assign this bug. Perhaps that's wrong, say, if g-s-d is fine, and it's compiz that needs to be patched to match. I don't know the code. For now, I'm going to change the assignment from Unity, to g-s-d and compiz. I think that has to be closer, and people who know better can improve it from there, as needed. [Compiz] [Bug 1040081] Re: [regression] Week 34: Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut (open terminal) fails to work
I've also proposed, on bug 1041169, that these reports are the same problem. This report is about losing Ctrl-Alt-T, that one is about losing custom keybindings. It looks to me like Ubuntu implements Ctrl-Alt-T by installing it as a custom keybinding. And all those shortcuts are lost in the same upgrade gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu8 to 3.4.2-0ubuntu9. And they reappear if you downgrade to -0ubuntu8. Jeremy B. thought it looked like a separate problem, so I didn't change the duplicate status any more, but made this argument, there, too. Ok, that's what I think I know about this bug. [Compiz] [Bug 1041169] Re: custom keyboard shortcuts not migrated after upgrade to compiz 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu2
I can confirm this, now, too. I didn't have any custom shortcuts, but I downgraded gnome-settings-daemon to 3.4.2-0ubuntu8, and made some. gnome-control-center-* needed to be downgraded to the same version, to run properly. Shortcuts under 0ubuntu8 did not survive into 0ubuntu9. I could make new ones under 0ubuntu9. I was thinking this might be the same as bug 1040954, since the Terminal keybinding seemed to be one of the custom keybindings from Gnome's point of view, just installed by default by Ubuntu. And because it came and went with the same upgrades and downgrades. I still think it might be, but I certainly don't grasp the whole situation. I don't know the particulars of what's happening in the code, at all. Either way, from my testing, it looks like the relevant code is in gnome-settings-daemon (and possibly gnome-control-center). I can see this bug, or restore the old behavior, by changing the versions of those packages, without touching compiz. I'll see what you guys think, before changing the bug any more. [Compiz] [Bug 989588] Re: update-manager popup is shown on launcher and alt-tab list but window doesn't show up
Timo, I see what you mean! :) I was able to reproduce what you're talking about. Steps to reproduce, hastily written: 0. (create another user account) 1. login to my main account 2. lock screen 3. switch user 4. update package lists 5. switch back to main user Update-manager window is shown in Launcher and Alt-Tab, but does not appear when selected, by either means. Closing update-manager from the quicklist, and restarting, makes a visible window, as we've said. Also, starting the upgrade from the quicklist worked, and the in-progress dialog appeared normally. BUT, when the upgrade was done, and should return to the main window, that window was still inaccessible. I guess I'll paste this into the main description. ** Description changed: Yesterday I got a popup from update-manager that shows on the launcher how many updated packages there are available, but left-clicking the icon didn't show the window. Alt-tabbing didn't help either, so I closed it from the right-click menu and the next time it showed I did get a proper popup window. [Compiz] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
compiz needs the same one-line patch as the last few, and it has another issue, at least on my machine. It appears the 'source_compiz.py' hook needs this import: from apport.hookutils import * And I've added that in my patch. Without it 'ubuntu-bug compiz' throws an exception, saying the function 'command_output' is not defined. ERROR: hook /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py crashed: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py, line 799, in add_hooks_info symb['add_info'](self, ui) File /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py, line 18, in add_info report['CompizPlugins'] = command_output(['gconftool-2', NameError: global name 'command_output' is not defined Some apport hooks have the import statement above. Some have just 'import apport.hookutils'. Only the former fixed this on my system. The latter seems to work fine for other packages, but not here. Maybe I'm misssing something; I didn't explore this any further. (Nor did I try to fix bug 777221 while I was in there. :) Thanks. ** Patch added: python3 patch for compiz's apport hook. also adds an 'import' that seems needed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1013171/+attachment/3207409/+files/compiz.patch ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013171 Title: Many package hooks not ported to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1013171/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 995659] Re: [nvidia] Blank windows when you Minimize, then Restore with Alt-` (Alt-Grave)
Thanks, Daniel. Now that bug 729979 is marked fixed, I can (unfortunately) still reproduce this. Maybe I will comment there, later, and see if anyone else will try to confirm this behavior on their machines. I'll try to let the Xorg 1.12 updates arrive, first, just in case. ** Tags added: precise quantal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995659 Title: [nvidia] Blank windows when you Minimize, then Restore with Alt-` (Alt-Grave) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/995659/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
