[Compiz] [Bug 1574251] [NEW] Resuming from screen lock with a multimonitor setup causes all windows to migrate to the "primary screen"
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hardware: * Dell M3800; builtin screen is a 15", 1920x1080 screen; * an external display connected via HDMI, brand ASUS, same resolution; * the configuration via settings is that the screen on the laptop is on the left and the ASUS screen on the right. The bug did not appear with 15.10; only starting with 16.04 did this start to happen. This is a laptop with a nVidia chipset, and it doesn't matter whether I use nouveau or the proprietary nVidia driver. When the screen locks after inactivity, or I lock it explicitly, and then some time later (for some definition of "later") log back in, all windows have migrated to the laptop screen. This is annoying since it means I have to move all the windows over again. I am not sure what details I should give. I only noticed that compared to 15.10 which did not exhibit the bug, the ASUS screen takes longer to "wake up" again... My hunch here is that the HDMI port was deactivated. [Compiz] [Bug 1892427] [NEW] [amdgpu] HDMI connected TV wakeup problems
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The setup here is critical to understanding the problem. A laptop is connected via HDMI to a TV monitor. Two displays are thus available to the OS. Everything works great both in mirror display and regular display. At the end of day, I lock the user account and the display manager (DM) tells the monitors to blank (sleep?). When I touch the DM and login the laptop display livens up and looks good. However, the TV display often doesn't and I need to wake up the TV with the TV control stick. This works OK, and the second display comes back. And all the windows associated with that display return from sleep OK. *HOWEVER*, all the geometry for those windows (term windows is one example) are lost. I can see the windows in the term overview, but I cant get to them on the second display. [Compiz] [Bug 1885435] [NEW] The wrong sequence of mouse events can render the whole system unusable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is 100% reproducible with any window, I'll use a terminal window as an example. Steps to reproduce: - open a terminal window (again, this could be a Gedit, Nautilus window or any other window) - make sure the window is not maximized - Place the mouse cursor at the center of the right border of the window, press the mouse left button and don't release it, so as to resize the window by dragging its right border - While dragging the terminal window's right border, press and hold the mouse right button too (remember you're still holding the left button too) - While still holding both mouse buttons pressed, move the mouse cursor away from the border of the window fast. If you move it fast enough, at some point the border will stop following the mouse cursor (which wouldn't happen if you hadn't pressed both buttons). - While the mouse cursor is outside the terminal winow, release the right button and then the left button. Now you are no longer holding any mouse button pressed - move the mouse cursor to the left and to right "crossing" the terminal window border, that is, move the mouse inside and outside the terminal window. Notice how, whenever the cursor "crosses" the window's right border, the border nonsensically moves a little bit following the movements of the cursor for a fraction of a second, as if you were still dragging it, but then it stops following the cursor. This is the first sign that something has gone completely berserk, but it's still nothing compared to what is coming - while the mouse cursor is outside of the offending window (i.e. the terminal window in our example), click on something outside of it. For example, in my case that's a maximized Chrome window that's behind. Observed disaster: now you are unable to do anything with the mouse. Try clicking on any window to move, close, or resize it. Try to click on stuff to give it focus. Try to click on Launcher icons. None of this has any effect. It's as if your mouse buttons dead. Not even by trying to go back to the original window and press and release the mouse buttons in any particular order while the cursor is over the window border seems to allow you to "unlock" the system. There's no way to recover from this situation except by KILLING the offending window without using the mouse. For example, by using alt+tab as many time as needed to give it focus, and then, since in this case it is a terminal, typing "exit" and hitting Enter, so the window gets closed and normal functioning of the mouse gets restored. If the offending window is not a terminal window, then you can hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open a new terminal, and then use a "kill" or "killall" command to kill the process that owns the offending window. Both of these imply loss of any unsaved work. This is a fucking disaster and an incredibly stupid bug of the kind that you usually observe in "software" written by novice programmers (or rather, non-programmers such as web designers playing around with javascript) who write their first programs with mouse events (press, release, rollover, etc) and forget to take into account all possible sequences of events. Seriously, I hadn't seen such stupid mouse behavior bugs outside of the scope of amateur website UIs. Fucking unbelievable. [Compiz] [Bug 1743259] [NEW] 3D acceleration stops working after kernel upgrade
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a Thinkpad X200. I installed Ubunntu 16.04.3. It works fine immediately after installation (kernel 4.10.0-28). But when I install updates (kernel 4.13, post Meltdown/Spectre), it starts to behave weirdly: WHAT HAPPENS: All Unity eye-candies stop to work and cause a session refresh. I mean, when I press Alt (HUD), or Super (Dash), or even when I hover my mouse over an icon on the launcher the system goes through a mini-crash: all elements on the screen disappear for ~2 seconds, and they come back again. I never see HUD, Dash, or the laucher tooltip that I intended to see. POSSIBLE PROBLEM: Is it safe to say 3D accleration has stopped working after kernel update? [Compiz] [Bug 1882362] [NEW] Focus not where it should be
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Steps to reproduce: 0. Make sure you have an image file in your desktop, and that you have a folder somewhere in your filesystem that contains at least one file of any kind. Make also sure you have no window open, or otherwise do Show Desktop so that your desktop is visible. 1. Open a nautilus window and navigate to the a folder that has some files in it. So now a Nautilus window is in foreground with a folder open showing the contents of the folder 2. Make sure this window is not maximized, and move it around so that, on the background, you can see your desktop, and specifically, an image file that is in your desktop. Remember, at this stage the Nautilus window with the folder is in the foreground, focused. 3. Click on some file within the nautilus window to select it. 4. Click on the desktop background. Then click on some file on the desktop. Then on another one. Then finally on one particular image file that you have in your desktop. Now the desktop has focus and something in it is selected. NOTE: you can skip step 4, and you would observe the issue allthesame and it would still be bad. But the fact that explicitly including this step 4 you can observe the issue, makes it even more egregious. 5. Double ckick on the image file in the desktop, so as to open it in the default image viewer Now the image viewer window is in the foreground. 6. Close the image viewer window 7. Hit the Delete key. ** EXPECTED ** After step 6, focus should return to the desktop, where the image file was selected. Hence, hitting the Delete key should delete it ** OBSERVED ** For some random nonsensical reason, after step 6, the Nautilus window with the folder is focused, and hence, when you hit the delete key you delete whatever file was selected in it. This is a HUGE issue which may cause you to delete the wrong content without even realising it. And if you don't realise soon enough, you may be unable to undelete it. Just one more of a gazillion bugs that make Nautilus not only unusable, but also DANGEROUS. One of the most essential components of a Desktop operating system and yet one of the most broken ones. Fucking pathetic. I'm done with this crap, I will get rid of Ubuntu and install some other distro. [Compiz] [Bug 1882112] [NEW] [radeon] Screen freeze
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This may be correlated to the move to Bionic Beaver(?) LTS, now 18.04.4. It may also be correlated to getting low on disk space on my system drive (50GB SSD) and putting pressure on swap space. e.g when system HDD <= 1GB. My secondary HDD is a 1TB USB spinning device that sometimes seems to go into sleep mode and then fails to rapidly respond to IO request or may be is in a 'hot IO' state. On my Bus I have a low capacity HDD that is essentially unused because it rarely comes ready when I boot. If it is partially alive it is conceivable that it might be chattering and so competing for IO interrupt handling bandwidth? The problem only occurs when I have selected the desktop management tile from the 'side tray' and if I then shuffle or better align the windows inside one of the four desktops so as to stop them running into the neighbouring desktop area. Particularly, it seems to me, when at least one of the desktops is quite busy with windows open in it and the overlapped desktop has a few also. The fewer windows in total across the desktops the less likely it seems that rearranging a few will have any bad effect. When the freeze occurs then 60%(?) of the time it ends in a 'big red switch' reboot. The cursor stays active but ineffective. Keyboard combinations, like Alt+W, will sometimes succeed in bringing up to full screen mode and active the desktop that was in focus and constitutes a recovery. Other times, and keys, will delete focussed windows in the focussed desktop, and Tab will move focus around the 4 desktops. SHIFT+Print Screen also executes but just takes the whole screen and dumps it somewhere I haven't yet located... with sound effect. Hope this helps... I am not at fully at home with Ubuntu/Linux yet... having spent a lifetime on glasshouse legacy IBM mainframe field systems engineering. I am making myself more system disk space meanwhile, and while extract my old Maxtor. It would be nice if I didn't have to up my system disk to hundreds of GB! best regards, Rob ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-101.102-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-101-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.15 Architecture: amd64 CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity:Unity7:ubuntu Date: Thu Jun 4 11:31:56 2020 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a week GpuHangReproducibility: Occurs more often under certain circumstances GpuHangStarted: I don't know GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Compiz] [Bug 1828678] [NEW] Nautilus window outside the screen, unreachable, after resuming from hibernation
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I always work with an external display connected to my laptop. The external display is selected as the only display, and the laptop's built-in screen is switched off. Often I hibernate, move the laptop to another place (e.g. from home to the workplace and viceversa), connect a different external screen, and resume from hibernation. When I do so, it often happens that, if I had one or more Nautilus windows open before hibernation, one or more of them are partially or completely outside the screen. When they are partially, they are moved way to the left, and only the right-most part of the window is visible at the left of the screen. In this case I can reach the window with the mouse cursor, click and drag it to the right so it's completely within the screen. But sometimes, the window is completely unreachable, as if it's completely outside the screen (presumably to the left of it, since when it's reachable, it's always to the left). In these cases, there's NOTHING I can do to reach the window and gain access to it. I can right-click on the Launcher icon of the window, but that doesn't give me any way (none that is discoverable, at least) to bring the "lost" window into the visible area of the screen. This sounds mostly like a bug in Xorg or Compiz whatever the window manager is. The fact that it is even POSSIBLE for a window to be moved completely outside of the screen in such a way that you have no way to get access to it, IS certainly a bug or design flaw in whatever piece of software is responsible for managing windows. So is the fact that, when that happens, there is no tool for gaining access to it. However, I have never, ever observed this with windows belonging to any other application except Nautilus. When I hibernate and resume, I usually have several windows open belonging to different applications: Thunderbird, Chrome, Filezilla, Gimp, and others, and often several terminal windows. Yet it has never, ever happened to me that one of them was completely or mostly outside of the screen as it happens with Nautilus. So there seems to be something specific to Nautilus. So it looks like Nautilus is doing something wrong, or failing to do something it's supposed to do, though the fact that the system even allows it to happen, means there's also a bug in the system (whether it's Xorg, Compiz, Unity or whatever). Note that this is a very critical issue, as not being able to access a window means potentially lose work. Fortunately, being a file explorer (as opposed to some other program where you may have unsaved changes to some document), usually the damage is small. However, you may have carefully chosen a set of folders that you have opened in tabs, and/or you may have carefully selected a particular set of files in each tab; having to close the window means you have to repeat the process of selecting those files and folders. That is just an example of loss of work due to this bug. So before wrongly assigning it low importance as you often do, think twice. [Compiz] [Bug 1576228] [NEW] Black borders or graphical glitch around all windows
You have been subscribed to a public bug: While using the nvidia proprietary drivers in 14.04 - 16.04, my Dell XPS L501X resumes from suspend, but displays wide black borders around all windows with close/minimize/maximize buttons blacked out as per attached screenshot. It occurs inconsistently, as it doesn't happen every time the computer resumes. Also there seems to be certain amount of performance degradation as if the graphics driver was running at half-strength. The "nVidia X Server Settings" app suggests its in maximum performance mode. Adhoc WORKAROUND: switch display layout (I have an external monitor/TV attached to HDMI port) changing anything such as arrangement or resolution of the displays, etc. corrects the black border issue. (update: Adhoc WORKAROUND no longer works with nvidia 375.39) Adhoc WORKAROUND 2: type "unity" in terminal i.e. user@machine:-$ unity (that should restart unity/compiz) (and kills/closes some (read: web-browser) windows) See comment :https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-361/+bug/1576228/comments/4 WORKAROUND: Use nouveau. [Compiz] [Bug 1755188] [NEW] system freeze after update (compiz at 100% CPU)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On legacy NVDIA machine, after CCSM update 28 Feb 2018, system would freeze with either soft-boot or hard-boot required. If able to switch to console/terminal, and run "TOP", the table showed COMPIZ maxing out at 100%. As a workaround, I had to : 1. switch to lowgfx under "preferences" in CCSM 2. under OpenGL, switched off a. SynctoVblank" b. "Framebuffer object" c. "Vertex buffer object" and d. "Always use buffer swapping" 3. under Composite, set refresh rate at higher values, settling on 89 Running nouveau driver, and firmware update. The system freeze was most likely using LibreOffice5 (latest stable version). [Compiz] [Bug 1564716] [NEW] Nautilus: Different response when clicking minimized Nautilus with Mouse vs Touchpad.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I want to ask something, I have already observed this strange behaviour since Ubuntu 13.04. I know I can Maximize Apps in Unity Launcher (which is opened and minimized) with Mouse Scroll Up and Also Clicking it (if it was not multiple instance, as multiple instance will evoke select windows behavior). This problem was limited to Nautilus only. When trying to maximized a Single Nautilus in minimized size, there are different response when clicking the Icon in launcher between Mouse Click and Tapping Touchpad. - With touchpad, the Nautilus is Maximized, - With Mouse Click the nautilus is not consistent between Maximizing the MInimized Nautilus and sometimes Creating a new Nautilus window (the minimized one still minimized). As Example: A one single Nautilus Apps is opened and minimized in Launcher: - Touchpad Left Click --> Maximize the Nautilus - Mouse Left Click --> Open another Nautilus , now I get 2 Nautilus I have posted this similar question in AskUbuntu (http://askubuntu.com/questions/720342/clicking-minimize-apps-to-maximize-it-in-unity-launcher-with-mouse-and-touchpad) but i got no answer, so I confuse is this a really bug or not. What makes me consider this is a bug, I never experienced this case in older version of Ubuntu (< 13.04). This problem occurs since ubuntu 13.04 and newer. This is my first time reporting a bug. If I am in worng place to report this, or perhaps I should report this to Nautilus developer, please guide me to do it. [Compiz] [Bug 1423836] [NEW] Nautilus loses focus
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Nautilus fails to regain focus when it opens an other window or dialog, and that window/dialog is closed. Tested in Trusty, with default settings. To reproduce: - Open nautilus. - Find an image, and open it. Normally it would open in eye of gnome. - Close the image viewer. Alternative: - Select a file in Nautilus - Press shift-del to remove it completely. - Nautilus asks "Are you sure you want to permanently delete ...". Press enter to accept. The dialog disappears. Expected behaviour: - The nautilus window should regain focus. Current behaviour. - Nothing seems to be focused anymore (or maybe the desktop is focused, I'm not sure). Extra info: - Bug #14459 is quite similar, but it was marked as invalid. Also it's very old. - This might be a bug in unity, and how it handles windows. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nautilus loses focus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1423836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 1273212] [NEW] windows randomly move between desktops when connecting / disconnecting monitors
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I use a laptop with an external monitor and would like to connect / disconnect monitor as I, say, go to the meeting. I have several workspaces and organize the windows per task on one or several neighbouring workspaces. As soon as I connect or disconnect an external monitor all that arrangment is gone, windows end up on random workspaces, often on top of each other, and it is not like there is some user friendly way to combat chaos in unity - you can either see all windows of a single workspace, or all workspaces at once, but not individual windows. So I have to arrange the windows again, then I need to quickly go show something to a collegue with my laptop but her place, and all the arrangement is gone. Basically this makes me hesitate to attach a second monitor or move freely with my laptop. Reproducing: 1. place several terminal windows per workspace and in each type "echo this terminal is on workspace 1x1", " ... 1x2", "2x1" etc, where the numbers are cartesian coordinates of the desktop. 2. maximize some of the terminals, keep others normal sized. 3. connect a second monitor. 4. go from window to window and see if you can discover the system by which they ended up where they ended up. 5. if some terminal is maximized on a secondary monitor, unmaximize it and watch it disappear into some random place. 6. drag the terminals to the desktops they were on originally (same monitor they were on: you haven't dragged them to the second monitor, so they shouldn't be there) 7. disconnect the monitor and repeat steps 4 - 6. 8. now repeat from step 3. 9. If you have several external monitors with different arrangement options remembered - go to the different monitor every time you start the reproducing cycle. 10. try to find existing bug related to the experience on launchpad. How it must work 1. arrage the windows 2. connect the second monitor 3. the first time around the windows must stay where they were - same workspace, same monitor 4. drag some windows onto the new monitor 5. disconnect the second monitor 6. the windows are where they were after step (1) 7. connect the same monitor again 8. the windows are where they were after step (4) ** Affects: compiz Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- windows randomly move between desktops when connecting / disconnecting monitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
