[Compiz] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' "Copy to Texture" plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size
re Ara, David and others; if I understand the situation: 1. Hardware has a max texture target of 2048x2048. 2. 1024 wide (internal) + 1280 wide (external) > 2048; so Unity 3D fails, Unity 2D works; error message shown 3. 600 high (internal) + 1024 high (external) <= 2048; so Unity 3D works, Unity 2D works. Nothing shown 4. On *some* N10 systems, somehow the machine ends up setting/enabling the impossible (2) situation, without warning Two questions: a. Is the summary above correct? b. [Compiz] [Bug 891657] Re: Unity-3D resizing window to bottom corner activates side-by-side maximise
What appears to be happening is that the side-by-side tiling code is getting activated during resize. [Compiz] [Bug 175874] Re: Compiz switcher Alt-Tab order is not predictable - should maintain LIFO ordering in application switcher
** Description changed: Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main - In compiz-fusion, the Shift Switcher has a strange way of keeping track - of windows. Let's say I have ten windows open, numbered in order of - which I've used most recently (1 being most recent). + In compiz-fusion, the various Switchers have a strange way of keeping + track of windows. Let's say I have ten windows open, numbered in order + of which I've used most recently (1 being most recent). Application switcher allows me to switch between the 2 most recently used windows (1 to 2 and back to 1) by simply pressing alt-tab and alt- tab again. After switching, it leaves all windows where they were except the one I've selected. To go to the one I used before these two, I press alt-tab-tab (1-2-3). Shift switcher does something arbitrary that I haven't figured out yet. In most cases if I just do hyper-tab, it goes 1-2. But if I cycle through more than that, it goes 1-2-8 or 1-2-4. Then what was 1 may get pushed way to the back behind 10 and 7. Most annoying of all, it doesn't just bring the window to the front temporarily as application switcher does, but it permanently shuffles the windows on your desktop, so everything is out of order, especially if I cycle through more than one window. This makes it impossible to quickly switch between two or three windows I'm working actively with, instead bringing to the front things I haven't worked with in hours. Why not just use the same algorithm application switcher uses, keeping track of which windows have been used most recently and leaving all windows except the selected one where they were? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175874 Title: Compiz switcher Alt-Tab order is not predictable - should maintain LIFO ordering in application switcher ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 175874] Re: shift switcher should keep track of order like application switcher
I was reading the various parts of the switcher code on the train today, and doing some testing with: for i in $(seq 12) ; do pango-view --font 'Ubuntu 200' --text $i & done it appears that the very act of Alt-Tabbing is changing the stack ordering, by causing each window to be momentarily raised. A simple test that reflect this is to Alt-Tab-Tab-Tab-Tab-Tab and then Shift-Tab an equal number of times back to the original window. This should cause no change to the stack ordering, but what is actually happening is that all of the windows that have been "touched" will now be moved to the top of the Alt-Tab list, in the reverse order. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Low => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175874 Title: Compiz switcher Alt-Tab order is not predictable - should maintain LIFO ordering in application switcher ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 682973] Re: Incorrect Alt-Tab behaviour ordering: not predictable LIFO stack
Haven't pin it down completely; my observation is that an Alt-Tab causes a stack /exchange/; if the working set are entries 1 and 2 in the stack Alt-Tab therefore does as expected. If in the mean-time you've opened another 10 terminals or windows and your desired working set are entries 1 and 10 in the stack, then these become 10 and 1... requiring repeated keypresses to get back to. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Triaged ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682973 Title: Incorrect Alt-Tab behaviour ordering: not predictable LIFO stack ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 387828] Re: ALT+TAB with compiz shows really ugly icons for minimized windows
At the very least, the preview should show the ratio of the minimised window as a box (Otto, comment #22). But really a representation of the window needs cacheing before it is destroyed. Bear in mind that if the user alt-tabs past that minimised window even for a second then it *is* going to be raised anyway and redrawn at that point, then scaled, then... (all of which has considerably higher-latency). On the icon-scaling front, I don't think the huge icons help much. The huge icons are too big to be useful, and the small corner icons are too _small_ to be quickly visibly useful; but either way they also should be drawn from the show and not a rescaling of a fixed bitmap rendering (Minimising Firefox still shows this). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387828 Title: ALT+TAB with compiz shows really ugly icons for minimized windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 683635] Re: remove fade from the compiz plugin list
Travis: the stuff that's trying to be toned down/eliminated here is all the stuff that creates a perception of lag or delay in the Alt-tab process and which prevents interactions feeling clickity-click snappy. Based on the last two comments here (#13 and #14), I've tried two things: a. CCSM->"Fade"; switching to "Constant Time" (vs. Constant Speed) and seeing Speed to minimum (0.1, no known/documented units). This makes the experience a bit more pleasant but seems to have a bug (I was no longer able to alt-tab back to the CCSM window, like a game of whack-a-mole, other unfocused windows kept being raised instead) b. CCSM->"Switcher"; setting opacity to 100%; this means windows are no longer "disappeared". All are shown on the screen during the alt-tab process and just the stack order is changed... this is probably closer to what people are used to, and since everything is already completely opaque (except terminals) there is no appreciable fading. Both help, but both feel like workarounds. Didier: I've just noticed the setting just below those "Build Mipmaps for smooth scaling"... I bet this is the root-cause; doing that successful scaling (times N windows onscreen) would account for the massive blip in RAM usage that causes the deadlock/disk I/O death in extreme cases, and in normal cases is just causing the multi-second lag). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/683635 Title: remove fade from the compiz plugin list ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sam, is there a better (eg. numerical) setting that can be adjusted to disable the fade, or to reduce it to under 0.0-0.1 seconds? Because this is marked as Fix Committed I have tried to find the tree which received the commit in order to get a better overview of what was done, but I can't find which one it would have been. Hopefully didrocks can shed light on what got changed/patch for the moment and whether this is the best long-term solution.
[Compiz] [Bug 683635] Re: remove fade from the compiz plugin list
The disparity in latency with respect to key press-and-release speed is bug #684871. [Compiz] [Bug 684870] [NEW] Latency disparity between slow/fast Alt-tab tab tab hit speed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Also discovered in breaking down bug #683635, to reproduce: 1. Hit hit Alt-tab tab tab tab tab really really fast 2. and then do it it again slightly slower The first responds near instantly, and the second can lag for several seconds. It appears that there is a delay before the switch shows: For (1) when the entire action can be completed and the Alt key released within this delay period then the window change is instantaneous. In the case of (2) the switcher appears and then the latency (possibly a result of bug #684843) is introduced. It is perfectly /possibly/ for it to switch quasi-instantly, as can be demonstrated in the case of (1) using successive fast hits. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/684870 Title: Latency disparity between slow/fast Alt-tab tab tab hit speed ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Press+hold Alt-Tab for the first time Expected results: stack is alternate Terminal/Firefox. Actual result: three terminals are next to each other. Further demonstration can be found by attempting to bring all of the Terminal, or all of the Firefox windows to the front/top of the stack. 10. Even further, now load Empathy Attempt to get get all of the terminals, or all of the Firefox windows to the front/top of the stack. This is also impossible as the Empathy window will stay at slot 3, or 4 regardlessly. -- Incorrect Alt-Tab behaviour ordering: not predictable LIFO stack https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682973 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 675307] Re: compiz can't load plugins and won't run in VirtualBox
Yougo: Unity (via Compiz) is rendering the interface in the same way that a 3D video game work: people measure games in the number of Frames Per Second (FPS) displayed. For each new frame the interface gets wiped and is redrawn from scratch, when this is done enough times per second it appears smooth. With OpenGL hardware GPU rendering it's possible to manage 60+ FPS per second. This is more complete FPS than the eyes can see, so the game, or Unity interface looks super-smooth. With OpenGL software rendering it is only possible to get 1-2 FPS which makes the interface jerky, unresponsive and uses up lots of battery and CPU. Without efficient and fast hardware OpenGL support it is better to swtich back to traditional 2D rendering (the GNOME Panel) which uses a different mechanism for drawing to the screen, where only what has moved is updated, not the whole screen. Doing software 2D rendering means that many of the effects that people have become used to are not possible. -- compiz can't load plugins and won't run in VirtualBox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/675307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
