I support the notion of Matthias Niess above. I experience the same, and
with the recent 14.04 updates, it happens a lot more often!

[Compiz] [Bug 1164164] [NEW] Compiz crashes when inserting USB stick

2013-04-03 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

Compiz crashes -- albeit briefly -- when inserting a USB stick or other
USB device (Nexus 4, Nexus 7).

The screen seems to be loosing all of the window manager, but comes
right back.

This seems to be a regression, as this didn't happen previously...

[Compiz] [Bug 1158161] Re: [regression] Unmaximized windows can't be closed, minimized, moved

2013-03-26 Thread Rainer Rohde
Not quite normal, as now it somewhat breaks Guake. Before, Guake was
firmly attached to the top of the screen, and now there's a noticeable
gap between the top of the screen and Guake's terminal window. See
screenshot attached.

This gap wasn't there before.

rest assured, the bug is still there. :) Black screen, of course.

At least they keep the most annoying bugs for years and years on a
consistent basis. Bravo everyone involved.

I also experience a black screen now. I noticed this with Firefox.

Open a couple of Firefox windows > minimize them > ALT-Tab select any
one of them > observe black screen.

This happens regardless whether the window is maximized or minimized.
Workaround for now: if small window, maximize it. If maximized, resize
it.

[Compiz] [Bug 1035401] [NEW] window border disappears when working with programs running within Wine

2012-08-10 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

This is really annoying. Every time I work with MS Word under Wine,
after a short while the Ubuntu window border is lost. The only way to
work around this is running "compiz --replace &" from the command line.
However, this in itself is risky and sometimes my session crashes.

 Status: New

** Package changed: ubuntu-sso-client (Ubuntu) => compiz (Ubuntu)

2011-09-27 Thread Rainer Rohde
I can confirm the statement made above (#15).

Also, sometimes Thunderbird gets unresponsive and only by wildly alt-
tabbing it comes back to live, however, right-clicking and quitting it
crashes Compiz with the whole desktop resetting.

[Compiz] [Bug 846434] Re: Window manager unresponsive

2011-09-10 Thread Rainer Rohde
** Description changed:

Not sure what causes this, but it seems to happen quite often that esp.
Thunderbird and Chrome (haven tested with Firefox) window borders become
unresponsive, but the applications themselves still work. The close
- window / minimize / maximize buttons are great out, and the window can
+ window / minimize / maximize buttons are greyed out, and the window can
no longer be moved or into the background. So far, I was only able to
get around this by closing the app from the Dash and relaunching it.

Not sure if that's related, but since a few days I have what seems to be
Desktop freezes - I can still move the mouse around but nothing is
clickable. Sometimes the Desktop recovers, but I am more likely to
restart the session from the terminal (ctrl+alt+F1).

[Compiz] [Bug 846434] [NEW] Window manager unresponsive

2011-09-10 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

Not sure what causes this, but it seems to happen quite often that esp.
Thunderbird and Chrome (haven tested with Firefox) window borders become
unresponsive, but the applications themselves still work. The close
window / minimize / maximize buttons are grayed out, and the window can
no longer be moved or put into the background. So far, I was only able
to get around this by closing the app from the Dash and relaunching it.

Not sure if that's related, but since a few days I have what seems to be
Desktop freezes - I can still move the mouse around but nothing is
clickable. Sometimes the Desktop recovers, but I am more likely to
restart the session from the terminal (ctrl+alt+F1).

What I would expect is that when Compiz crashes, it immediately falls
back to Metacity so I can at least continue working or saving open
documents before relaunching GDM. As a workaround for now, I've made a
desktop launcher that relaunches Compiz when double-clicking on it, but
